    > Standards were supposed to eliminate browser-specific code. We dug ourselves out of the IE era, celebrated, and then built exactly the same hole again around a different browser. Only now the browser-specific code lives in the browsers that aren’t dominant, patching over a web built for the one that is.

  13. Czy wtyczki do pobierania TikToków powinny zbierać tyle danych? Kampania 12 złośliwych rozszerzeń Chrome i Edge

“[T]o understand the scope of the problem: the Prompt API, as shipped, is […] an API for interacting with Google’s Gemini Nano – a 4 GB model that Chrome has already silently downloaded to your machine, without asking, and that it will re-download if you remove it. Any website you visit can now send prompts to that model, using your processing #resources, without requesting #permission.”

  22. I use Chrome for work and found that it has decided, without opt-in or opt-out, to create several `weights.bin` files that are several GB large. Deleting them means Chrome will reinstall them. Why this is bad is explained in thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome , but that blog misses that there is more than 1 weights.bin file.

  23. #Google has #nothing of their #own. #Nothing. They have expensive data centers and computer systems that if we don't give them our shit drive them out of business. They own nothing. Their stock is built on your data. Take it away. Quit using Google products. #Chrome is a devil. It just feels normal.
