  2. I was there on my Linux Mint and I'm like, 'Geez, 50% of my space is gone.' It's true that I have a lot of stuff and I'm currently cleaning up, but I didn't expect this:

4 GB of AI (Google calls it Gemini Nano). Way to go, Chrome, nice move.

Go to chrome://settings/system and disable it.

  3. Ars Technica: Chrome’s 4GB AI model isn’t new, but you’re not wrong for being confused. “Some desktop Chrome users have also noted that the browser appears to suddenly want more storage space for AI. This is true—Chrome does download a 4GB AI model for on-device processing. It’s been doing that for years, though. Google hasn’t actually changed anything about Chrome’s on-device AI, […]

  13. #GoogleChrome silently installs 4GB of #AI models, #GeminiNano, on users’ computers for features like scam detection and “Help me write.” This installation happens in the #background and can be deleted manually, but Chrome will re-download it unless the “#ondeviceAI#setting is disabled. 9to5google.com/2026/05/06/goog #tech #media #news

  14. [Veille 📣] Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent. At a billion-device scale the climate costs are insane. — That Privacy Guy!
