Seven years. Seven years after Steven Spielberg ( as a young fella ) was traumatized by the Cecil B. DeMille's 1952 film The Greatest Show On Earth another film-maker ( who also was a great inspiration on Spielberg ) Alfred Hitchcock decided to Hitch a train. Rear Window Obscures Murder And Makes It More Terrifying
The true brilliance of the film is the focus on the minute details. All puzzle pieces fit together and once you put the puzzle together, it feels so good. Given it is detective thriller, that's to be expected. The issue comes when you're watching it from the modern day perspective with all the Martin Scorseses and Destry Spielbergs out the, making actually messed up pictures. The thrill presented is light, tame in comparison with what is present now.

Contained thrillers are a very interesting sub-genre of film. They are usually cheaper to produce ( because they happen in one location ), but if done right, are masterful test-grounds for a film-maker. Look no further than M. Night Shyamalan and his excellent entries into this genre: Signs, The Village, Knock at the Cabin, Trap ( though this last one cannot be called cheap, I suppose ). Yet, when it comes to this kind of restricted film-making, one director takes the crown - Alfred Hitchcock and his 1954 film Rear Window. Let me explain...

Si tienen ganas de ver un verdadero clásico del suspenso que no necesita de monstruos espaciales ni de efectos digitales exagerados para ponerles los pelos de punta, tienen que revisar esta obra maestra del director Alfred Hitchcock. La historia arranca de una forma muy tranquila en San Francisco, donde una joven rica conoce a un abogado en una tienda de mascotas y decide seguirlo hasta un pequeño pueblo costero llamado Bodega Bay para llevarle un par de periquitos de regalo. Lo que parece una simple comedia romántica da un giro de 180 grados cuando, de la nada y sin ninguna explicación lógica, las aves del lugar —desde las gaviotas hasta los cuervos— empiezan a organizarse para lanzar ataques violentos y masivos contra los habitantes del pueblo, desatando el caos y el terror absoluto en la comunidad.
Lo maravilloso del filme es cómo el director maneja la tensión psicológica y el ambiente de encierro sin recurrir a la típica música de orquesta para asustar a la gente; en su lugar, utilizó una banda sonora compuesta exclusivamente por sonidos electrónicos que imitan el aleteo y los graznidos perturbadores de los pájaros, logrando una atmósfera sofocante. A diferencia de las películas de terror modernas que te explican todo con peras y manzanas, aquí nunca nos enteramos del porqué de la agresión de la naturaleza, lo que vuelve la experiencia mucho más inquietante y real. Es una joya indispensable del séptimo arte que nos demuestra el poder del cine clásico para transformarlo todo, donde unos simples pájaros en un cable de luz se convierten en la peor de las pesadillas.

When accepting the American Film Institute Life Achievement award: "I beg permission to mention by name only four people who have given me the most affection, appreciation, and encouragement, and constant collaboration. The first of the four is a film editor, the second is a scriptwriter, the third is the mother of my daughter Pat [Patricia Hitchcock], and the fourth is as fine a cook as ever performed miracles in a domestic kitchen.
