Our ABC quotes Ms Brady, Telstra CEO saying:
“ "When our network fails, the impact is real. I particularly want to acknowledge the concern caused by impacts to some Triple Zero calls. Triple Zero sits at the heart of public trust in Australia's communication system."Telstra has a critical role in that system and we take that responsibility extremely seriously. No-one should be left wondering whether a call for emergency help will get through."”
And yet that’s how it is now. We’re all wondering now whether our Triple Zero call will get through if & when we’re in an emergency and need to make one.
There’s something about this way of communicating, I can’t put my finger on what it is… it’s as if they’re talking AT us, trying to convince us that what they say is true… when the evidence is that they don’t believe it themselves. A sort of “boys will be boys” approach…
Sure, no one should be left wondering… but networks will be networks… complex networks… & they fall over & calls fail… because that’s how it is…
Apparently nearly half, “45 per cent of calls, data affected at outage peak”. The outage effects lasted several hours, & I’m still hearing from people about bizarre things happening with their phones.
I just don’t feel this is good enough since we’re all so reliant on this network. There must be a better way to do things; maybe we have to step back & do fewer things but do them better; or have less eggs in the basket or more baskets…

@jimbob
I had similar happen in a normal phone call with a friend 2 days ago. There we were, chatting away & the phone hangs up on us. Four times before we called it quits. Irregular intervals (after 15, 12, 4 minutes - didn’t time the first one). My underlying network is Telstra (Aldimobile is my service provider). ☹️Good luck with your call. 🍀

@andyjennings
Yes. If there are no consequences, why bother?Even if Telstra are fined, say, what does that do? Just makes the sloppy poor service more expensive for those forced to use it.

On the recent Telstra outage, looks like there are/will be few if any consequences. ABC reports:
“The Telstra incident has led to further questions about what more the government could do to protect customers from future outages.“Senator Hanson-Young said tougher regulations were needed.
“"There's no right to compensation for customers or penalties on the companies for failed mobile phone service," she said.
“"We need stronger laws, stronger enforcement and stronger penalties."”

The gap opened when John Howard privatised Australia's #telecommunications infrastructure. While maximising revenue from the privatisation of Telstra, that betrayed the nation. The only solution is #DePrivatisation

Evaluating the Digital Networks Act: The European Pirates’ Consultation Input

The proposal seeks to modernize Europe's digital infrastructure, accelerate connectivity, and create a more integrated telecommunications market across Member States. Interesting results… I see that it’s come down to 50:50 “Sabotage by Telstra” or ditto by Vodaphone (aka “Someone Vibecoded last night's system upgrade”). Noticed at the time that Telstra was often down to 1 bar only (best is just 2) & wondered just what was going on. Guess we’ll never know. Exciting times.#outagesRUs #Vodaphone #Telstra #telecommunications #AldingaBeach

Je ne comprends toujours pas la stratégies des opérateurs téléphoniques / internet historiques du Québec...
1. Proposer des services dont les tarifs, quoi qu'on fasse, ne cessent d'augmenter substantiellement année après année ;

🇪🇬 An Alstom-led consortium, including Rowad Modern Engineering and Concrete Plus, has signed four contracts worth around €690 million with #Egyptian National #Railways to modernise the 6th of October–Alexandria corridor and the Belbes–10th of Ramadan (B10) line. The projects support #Egypt Vision 2030 by improving connectivity and freight efficiency.
The €550 million 6th of October–Alexandria scheme will introduce digital signalling, upgraded #telecommunications, stronger power systems and track improvements, cutting journey times by nearly 80 minutes while improving safety, capacity and reliability. The €140 million B10 project will deliver similar upgrades, strengthening links to a major industrial zone. The works are expected to boost #trade, ease supply chain pressures and support sustainable #freight #transport, with around 50% local content.
