The #agriculture sector in the #Baltic States employs thousands of guest workers from outside the EU yearly. Around 5,000 #foreigners come to #Estonia every year for seasonal #work. Farms in #Latvia are hiring more foreigners amid a shortage of local #labour as well. In #Lithuania, over 5,000 foreigners are working on farms.

The budget #deficit in #Lithuania was the smallest in the #Baltic States at 0.9% of GDP in Q1/2026, #Eurostat reported. The #budget deficit was 1.2% in #Estonia and 1.9% in #Latvia. Estonia's #debt to GDP ratio was the lowest in the EU at 25.2%, compared to 42.3% in Lithuania and 46.9% in Latvia.

This was a fantastic installation at The Baltic in Gateshead- ‘Working Class Hero (A Portrait of John Lennon)’ by Candice Breitz. She filmed Lennon fans singing their way through Plastic Ono Band and had each one on it's own screen hung up the echoey steel stairwell at the gallery. An utterly awesome experience, I only remember "Working Class Hero"
