  12. 2 years ago I saw and got pictures of #AuroraBorealis during the May 10, 2024 solar storm. The second viewing location was Memaloose State Park, between Hood River and The Dalles, at an overlook above the Columbia River (Oregon/Washington border). Note the reflection of #aurora in the river. #astronomy #SpaceWeather #PNW

  13. 2 years ago I saw and got pictures of #AuroraBorealis during the May 10, 2024 solar storm. It was the 2nd time I had seen #aurora, and so far the best. I drove east from Portland and could see aurora while I was driving. I stopped for pictures at Multnomah Falls (Oregon's most popular waterfall) and farther east at Memaloose State Park (between Hood River and The Dalles). First, from Multnomah Falls, note the falls were south and still had aurora in the background. #astronomy #SpaceWeather #PNW

An M5. 79 flare peaked at 13h38 UT 10 May. A moderate R2 radio blackout affected Europe and N Atlantic regions.

Type II and 10.7cm radio emissions were observed, indicating the release of a CME, which turned out to be a significant CME, as seen in Lasco imagery. The flare occurred from the north-west limb so the CME was not Earth-directed.

  19. The sun decided to throw a moderate tantrum earlier this week and the result was some genuinely nice aurora displays at high latitudes. Alaska, northern Canada, Iceland — people in those spots actually got to see the sky light up in full green and purple.
Meanwhile the rest of us are still refreshing apps hoping for anything more interesting than another cloudy night. Classic.
