Из-за тотальной популярности технологии Ethernet она окружает нас везде: в квартире, в офисе, в доме все выстроено как центральная точка-коммутатор и множество ответвлений на абонентские устройства. Но. Смотрите, что произойдет, как только вы выйдете из квартиры. Вы прикладываете к домофону ключ-«таблетку» — и в этот момент, возможно, пользуетесь шиной 1-Wire, которая по своей топологии буквально шина. Садитесь в машину, поворачиваете ключ — и по всему автомобилю идет сигнал на десятки блоков, висящих на общих парах проводов CAN и LIN. Ни один современный автомобиль без шины не поедет вообще. Вечером вы идете на концерт — и вся светотехника над сценой, сотни приборов, управляется по DMX512, который бегает поверх шинного интерфейса RS-485. Даже показания квартирного теплосчетчика снимаются по M-Bus — специализированной шине для счетчиков. Звезда победила в офисах и дата-центрах. Но стоит выйти за пределы серверной — на завод, в цех, на подстанцию, в автомобиль, за кулисы концертного зала, квартиру — и выясняется, что там до сих пор правит бал старая добрая шина. Два провода, протянутые через весь объект, и десятки устройств, повисших на них параллельно, как белье на веревке. Как же так вышло, в наш век современной и быстрой связи?

two times today I've plugged an rj45 into an empty SFP+ port instead of a nearby rj45 port, not noticed that it wasn't a proper fit, then wondered for several minutes why the interface was not showing as up.

So as I mentioned in an earlier post, that I was going to put my old #EVGA #NVIDIA #GTX1050 card into my #Moms PC.
Well I it along with a 10 #Gigabit #Ethernet card that I had laying around.
After a week my mom started to have PSU issues.
Moms 1000w PSU was dying.
It was from my old build, I got 3 years out of it & mom got 5 years, so it's old.
I saw a deal on a new #Seasonic Focus GX-1000 ATX3.1 & I got it.
The Red LED makes the White pop a little.
Yes mom rocks #kubuntu #Linux.

Это первая (после нулевой) статья из серии Нейро сети для самых маленьких , в которой мы разбираем инфраструктуру для запуска нейронных сетей. Для обучения и инференса нейросетей и для любых видов High Performance Computing используются специализированные технологии: GPU/TPU, RDMA, Kernel bypass, NVLink, InfiniBand, RoCE и другие. Про некоторые из них большинство только что-то слышали, но сталкиваться с ними не приходилось. Нельзя просто взять ванильный стек Linux, воткнуть в него 400Gb Ethernet+IP и получить рабочее решение. Почему? Потому что общее решение на масштабе в большинстве случаев проигрывает специализированным как в скорости, так и в стоимости. Как бы странно последнее ни звучало.

I just discovered I’ve been getting about half of the Ethernet bandwidth I should’ve been getting, and I’ve been let down by LG and Anker.

My setup is not trivial. I have a NAS in my detached garage connected to a UniFi switch. That connects over Fiber to a UDM Pro in the house. That connects to a UniFi switch under my desk over Cat 5E.

From there, it goes to my LG 5K monitor via an Anker USB-C to Ethernet adapter, and to my M1 MacBook Pro via TB3 (what the LG display supports).

I was measuring 433 Mbps to the NAS using iperf. I did some experimenting, and found that putting the Anker adapter right on my Mac increased that to ~720 Mbps.

That ruined the wonderful setup I had, wherein I only had to plug in one TB cable to the MBP to use my entire setup. So I dug into some storage boxes and pulled out an old OWC TB3 dock with built-in Ethernet. Plugged the MBP and display into that over TB3, got rid of the Anker adapter altogether.

Now I'm getting over 890 Mbps to the NAS.

I'm angry at all the times I had to wait for long file transfers recently. Transfers that could’ve taken half the time, because LG and Anker couldn’t keep up.
