Meshcore-Geräte per Kommandozeile zu konfigurieren erinnert mich an die Konfiguration von Modems mit AT-Kommandos.
In mir kommen starke 90er-Gefühle hoch. Vielleicht gefällt mir MeshCore deshalb so gut. Das hat durchaus ein paar Ähnlichkeiten mit Mailbox (bei MeshCore: Room Servers) und FidoNet (Mesh). 🙂 -

A regular glance at several status pages on #network connected #devices is routine for me.
My routine paused today as it dawned on me that a 60 watt light bulb gets about a 1000x better received rate than my last 56kps #modem ever did, and blows away the transmit rate by nearly twice its current 54Mps RX rate.
A fucking light bulb!
And somehow, _some people_ deny meaningful progress is even possible, and science is just plain wrong.

Los módems telefónicos de mayor velocidad teóricamente permitían ahorrar la mitad en comunicación telefónica. De cierta manera tenía sentido... pero la realidad es que la comunicación por #modem operaba también con cierto "efecto contagio". De poco servía tener el módem más veloz, si no había un corresponsal con la misma velocidad de transmisión al cual poder comunicarte... la idea era que poco a poco todos tuviésemos los módems más veloces... y ahí si, el general de las transmisiones mejoraban su velocidad.

I wrote about my experience with LTE modems on Linux and forgot to share it here. I tested the Quectel EP06-E, Sierra Wireless EM7455 and Sierra Wireless EM7565 with Debian and OpenWRT. Conclusion: OS support is great, the hardware is a bit complicated, OEM versions (especially from Dell) are cursed.

Hardware I returned to Xfinity this afternoon. The Arris telephony modem was about 20 years old. The cable box / DVT was not much younger.
We dropped cable TV, VOIP, and stopped renting modems (bought my own Arris S33v3) very recently, saving hundreds of dollars per month on the bill.

Hab hier gerade ein #ELSA #Modem, bei dem ich die Firmware ausgelesen habe. Schön, was man da direkt im Header der #Firmware findet 😉.
