My newest creation: the Pickle Repeater.
It’s made from a Seeed Studio Companion — the cheapest one I could find, about $25 USD — a battery I got for free from AliExpress, and an empty plastic pickle jar.
The battery has a little solar panel built into it, so I’m testing how long this ridiculous contraption can keep running.
I think the battery normally goes for around $20 on AliExpress. So if this works, and I can make a casing that lets enough light in to charge the solar panel while also being waterproof and weatherproof, then we might have a pretty cheap no-solder repeater for people who don’t own soldering tools or just don’t want to fuck around with that shit.
Right now it’s mounted on a pool-cleaning pole I found in the garbage, because of course it is.
So far, it fucking works. I’ve been able to chat with people hundreds of kilometres away.
More pickle-based telecommunications research to come.

Got my #meshcore repeater antenna relocated to the top of this tree in the back yard. It is now 50 feet above ground level and I can make outbound (and bidirectional) connections to the rest of the mesh now.
Especially to the south of Lethbridge into the rural mesh net there. Strongest and shortest direct link to that mesh is travelling about 29 kilometres.
(EDIT: Formatting, and to note that there is an arborist in the top of that tree in the first picture, but you can't see them because... branches from the down below angle obscured him.) -

Immer so "Guten Morgen", "Ping", "Sieht man mich in $Stadt?" ca. 100-200 Nachrichten pro Tag.
Das ist kein technisches Problem. -

Having fun with #MeshCore which is similar to but in some ways very different from #Meshtastic . A good excuse to do network mapping by bicycle, the pace you go is just about perfect to map out the network without gaps.

The development version of #Meshy got a significantly improved QR code scanning. It supports camera enumeration and switching between cameras which should be particularly useful for #mobileLinux users.
If you have more than one camera in your device, we would love to hear how it works for you.

I found a lovely location for #hamradio #UHF and #SHF #microwave beacons.
The current #meshcore repeater up there is too boring.I like the #Q65 style of british repeaters ( #gb3mhz #23cm occasionally comes in range for me ).
rfzero.net might only have pcb for baseband but no info on frequency multiplications and PA.
w1ghz website is informative.
A standard Pi Zero 2 + UHF HAT might be consume too much for solar + battery as I do not want to ask/pay for energy up there.
Hints welcome!

Since a Bluesky feed for Reticulum wouldn't be that dissimilar to my new feed for MeshCore, I went ahead and cloned and updated it to create a new feed for Reticulum content and devices, as well.

I have been mapping for #meshcore in Poland these days using #meshmapper. I was impressed by the activity around Poznan. It seems they have a pretty active community.

I ordered better 868 MHz antennas, since the bundled ones didn't have good reviews. When I took them off, I noticed they didn't even connect properly to the socket (both female). The bundle had connectors for both genders. I didn't notice and coincidentally grabbed the wrong ones for both devices. With the new antennas, at least I receive some messages. I'll elevate the devices a bit and see how I can get transmission working. #MeshCore seems to be more active than #Meshtastic from what I can tell.

My guy we are a single city if you can not tell me "Yeah man we typically use #Mestastic over #Meshcore" or vice versa this will NOT work your on boarding is none existent. This is doomed to fail and fully explains stagnation over the last two years. also why do I have to beg in a "help" chat for this info and why is the "resources" channel hidden by default (not like it explains the cities sane defaults or best way to connect or get started). And no saying "just run both nothing is permanent" is not a solution to people getting started. I hate this I hate this I hate this :APepeAngryType:
