  1. OpenWRT on Banana Pi BPI-R4 4GB Installation and full use of the 8GB eMMC

    Note: We assume a serial connection to the router console

    • download latest (stable/snapshot) image from openwrt.org downloads.openwrt.org/releases

    • put image on sd card

    • insert SD card in router

    • Set the dip switches to 1 1 (down, down) to boot it from sd card

    • poweron

    • during boot in the console select install to NAND

    • poweroff

    • Set the dip switches to 0 1 (up, down) to boot from NAND

    • poweron

    • during boot in the console select install to eMMC

    • poweroff

    • Set the dip switches to 1 0 (down, up) to boot from eMMC

    • poweron

    • on the shell prompt run

      apk update
      apk add cfdisk
      cfdisk /dev/mmcblk0
      ``` → Resize /dev/mmcblk0p5 to something like 7.2G.
      write and quit ```cfdisk```
    • back on the shell prompt run
    umount /dev/fitrw
    firstboot -y
    reboot

    After the reboot the entire capacity of the eMMC should be accessable

  3. I will not buy the overkill router development board with 2 * 10 Gbit SFP, 4 * 1 GBit UTP, 2 * M2, and 2* mini-PCIe for a WiFi 7 addon card.   4. The Banana Pi R4 (#BPiR4) is here! What I thought would be a weekend project ended up being a couple of hours of effort from scratch to having everything working as it was.
    Running #OpenWrt, getting around 930 Mbps symmetrically with hardware acceleration.

  5. Ordered a #BPiR4 a couple of days ago, planning to run #OpenWrt on it. It just shipped, and I'm already having second thoughts. Maybe I should've gotten something from #UniFi instead, as I already have their AP and switch. Cloud Gateway Ultra looks interesting. The further I go, the more I want things to just work, rather than tinkering with custom firmware.
