Neighbor was kind enough to share her WiFi while we wait for the technician in two weeks to activate our DSL line.
Of course I immediately turned an unused Raspberry Pi into a WiFi-to-Ethernet bridge and hooked it to my UniFi gateway's WAN port. Now my entire network is back online, not just individual clients.

Can someone tell me why a simple 5 port switch is in the top 5 of devices which communicates to home called Unifi?
Blocked it... no clue why, except for updates but not in this frequency.
Pi-hole makes you even more concerned about privacy. It's eye-opening to see how frequently my network makes calls to servers.

@buersten
Ich würde eine reine SIP-Lösung z.B. #FreePBX oder von #Unifi nehmen.Bei uns läuft eine FreePBX auf einem #RaspberryPi und als Clients verwenden wir Geräte von #Grandstream.

the nixos unstable unifi package appears to have some linkage error. Wonder how that could happen. It complains about running with a too old java version. I thought avoiding such errors was the entire point of nix and why it referenced specific versions of everything to begin with.
(I'm on nixos 25.11 but pulling in the nixos-unstable unifi package as the one in 25.11 was flagged as having security flaws earlier)
Edit: Full bug report: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/516063

One of my #UniFi access points shit itself and had to be power cycled. It's been forever that it's rebooted, my guess is that some internal buffer overflowed or something.

UI is adding memory surcharge to select products at checkout. This is like the airlines adding a fuel tax at checkout, keeping the advertised price low. Like the airlines, I do not expect the fee to be revoked, just increased.
Its a way to adjust for inflation without on the face, adjusting for inflation.
1. This is a forward looking tax as it is on already existing products.
2. They are not modifying the list price, the tax is added at checkout. For large buildouts this could exponentially increase costs. Looks like the sales tax is based on the additional fees. -
