  1. Today I visited everyone's favorite repair shop MediaMarkt. I wanted to see if they would be willing to fix my camera display. They told me it's 180€ just to send it in and get a quote. I was going to do the repair myself anyway, but damn that's a lot.

  2. This is what the electricity map for Rum looks like. The town is split in half with the south-west being supplied by the 10kV network of IKB and the south-east and north getting supplied by the 30kV network of TINETZ.

  3. Here's another project I want to show off: I extracted the location of infrastructure from official land-use planning maps. Data includes sewers, water lines, electricity cables, transformers and gas lines for my hometown Rum and Innsbruck. All the map links are on the overview page. The site is in German unfortunately, because referencing the original maps would be difficult if everything was translated.

  4. I wrote about my experience with LTE modems on Linux and forgot to share it here. I tested the Quectel EP06-E, Sierra Wireless EM7455 and Sierra Wireless EM7565 with Debian and OpenWRT. Conclusion: OS support is great, the hardware is a bit complicated, OEM versions (especially from Dell) are cursed.

  5. I think I recently discovered my first GSM-R base station. This came as a side effect of me starting to care about which providers are present at cellular base stations and not finding any of the usual suspects. Looking closer I discovered the ÖBB Infra stickers on the mast and the thick biofilm on the antennas confirmed my suspicion of that this is most likely a GSM installation.
