Seit ein paar Wochen setze ich mich ein wenig mit analogen #Modems auseinander und versuche auch die Technik dahinter zu verstehen. Die Doku und Specs sind gar nicht mal so schlecht. Leider sieht es mit den Dial-Ups aber nicht so gut aus. Verbindungen über #VoIP habe ich zu den drei #BBS en noch nicht herstellen können - wird aber weiter getestet.

Hardware I returned to Xfinity this afternoon. The Arris telephony modem was about 20 years old. The cable box / DVT was not much younger.

We dropped cable TV, VOIP, and stopped renting modems (bought my own Arris S33v3) very recently, saving hundreds of dollars per month on the bill.

A pretty fascinating multi-part look at the IGS BBS protocol (Instant Graphics, later Instant Graphics & Sound) on the Atari ST.

This is part of the #BBS scene that I missed, I must say. By 1990 I was still BBSing full tilt, but had moved off of Atari.

EDIT: Requires a formal definition of #theCommons re #software.

The worst part is there are no FOSS #modems/#wifi. None. Especially not ones available in #Australia. (EDIT: Is #telecommunications part of "the commons"? Yes.)

As the world slips into #technoFeudalism, we are simultaneously losing #communication with supporters over this.

Things are really quite bad.
