I then ended up in #FPGA design, and discovered that the major industries are about #weapons (aka euphemistically called #defense contractors), and #HFT which seems like a race to the bottom where engineers are being named in lawsuits. Or #ProAudio. But now: #AI is in my face at work.

I still have to look into #linux on #arm in more depth, but so far I get the impression that macOS (Apple Silicon) is actually currently the only platform where ARM is compelling for #proaudio. Or, in other words, pro audio on Windows on ARM seems to be even less mature than pro audio on Linux on ARM. 🤔

🎵🎛️ PipeWire 1.6.8 a fost lansat: Repararea unui defect critic în JACK MIDI salvează sesiunile din Ardour
PipeWire, motorul multimedia modern care a revoluționat gestionarea fluxurilor audio și video pe Linux, a primit o nouă actualizare de mentenanță extrem de importantă: versiunea PipeWire 1.6.8. Această lansare este una crucială pentru inginerii de sunet, muzicienii și creatorii de conținut din ecosistemul Linux, deoarece vine să rezolve o eroare spinoasă care afecta în mod direct stabilitatea producției audio profesionale.
Principalul punct de atracție al acestei versiuni este eliminarea unui race condition (defect de sincronizare) din implementarea JACK MIDI, o problemă care dădea bătăi de cap utilizatorilor celebrei stații de lucru audio digitale (Ardour).
Iată detaliile cheie ale acestei actualizări:
🔹 Corecția salvatoare pentru JACK MIDI și Ardour:
În ecosistemul de producție audio de pe Linux, sincronizarea milimetrică a notelor MIDI este vitală. În versiunile anterioare de PipeWire, un defect subtil de sincronizare (race condition) în emularea backend-ului JACK MIDI putea duce la pierderea pachetelor de date, note „agățate” (care rămâneau pornite la infinit) sau, în cel mai rău caz, la prăbușirea instantanee a aplicației Ardour în timpul sesiunilor complexe de înregistrare. PipeWire 1.6.8 elimină complet acest comportament, asigurând un flux de date MIDI impecabil și predictibil.🔹 Compatibilitate crescută și latențe mai mici:
Pe lângă repararea bug-ului legat de Ardour, noua versiune aduce optimizări pentru stratul de compatibilitate cu hardware-ul audio profesional (ALSA și serverul clasic JACK). Au fost îmbunătățite protocoalele de negociere a dimensiunii buffer-ului (buffer size), reducând riscul apariției acelor zgomote parazite extrem de enervante (cunoscute sub numele de xruns sau pocnituri audio) în momentul în care procesorul este solicitat intens de plugin-uri VST.🔹 Stabilitate sporită pentru Bluetooth Audio:
PipeWire 1.6.8 nu îi uită nici pe utilizatorii obișnuiți. Modulul de gestionare a codecurilor Bluetooth (cum ar fi LDAC, aptX sau AAC) a primit patch-uri de stabilitate. A fost rezolvată o problemă care bloca uneori comutarea automată a profilului audio de la „High Fidelity Playback” (A2DP) la modul de căști cu microfon (HSP/HFP) atunci când utilizatorul intra într-un apel pe Discord sau Zoom.🔹 Implementare rapidă în distribuțiile Linux:
Fiind o lansare din seria 1.6.x, actualizarea menține compatibilitatea totală cu versiunile anterioare și nu necesită modificări în fișierele de configurare existente. Ea va fi împinsă în mod nativ în depozitele oficiale ale distribuțiilor axate pe producție multimedia și actualizări rapide (cum ar fi Arch Linux, Fedora sau Ubuntu Studio) în următoarele zile.Pentru oricine folosește Linux pentru producție muzicală sau streaming avansat, trecerea la PipeWire 1.6.8 este un pas obligatoriu pentru a garanta o sesiune de lucru fără întreruperi și fără erori de sincronizare.

The LAD website is currently focused on #x86 exclusively.
I'm considering adding #arm information starting with the FAQ, but first I'd like to know what you think about it.
My impression is that ARM64 is still in its infancy for #proaudio and that transitioning from x86-64 is going to be rocky due to the lack of a Rosetta 2-like compatibility layer.
Do you think ARM64 documentation would be useful nonetheless?
