I've also read Blanchard's sequel "The Mother." If "Peacekeeper" was an homage to #LeGuin, this is to #Atwood's #HandmaidsTale.
Grim & suspenseful. But it does not quite live up to its predecessor, as Blanchard is a better worldbuilder than storyteller, and her depiction of a stuck-in-the-past Europe is less convincing, imo, than her vision of a native American present without European colonialization.
And I hope the next one will be less gut-wrenching! Asia or the Islamic Empire?

Neither of these behaviors is stopped by the Mute / Test button. The only way to stop the noise is to kill power to it, living us completely unprotected until a replacement arrives.
Do product designers not think of these things? What if that had started in the middle of the night? Was EOL really 84 months ±1 minute?!
