I've also read Blanchard's sequel "The Mother." If "Peacekeeper" was an homage to #LeGuin, this is to #Atwood's #HandmaidsTale.

Grim & suspenseful. But it does not quite live up to its predecessor, as Blanchard is a better worldbuilder than storyteller, and her depiction of a stuck-in-the-past Europe is less convincing, imo, than her vision of a native American present without European colonialization.

And I hope the next one will be less gut-wrenching! Asia or the Islamic Empire?

Afgelopen week het laatste seizoen van de Handmaid's Tale uitgekeken (Netflix).
Respect voor deze knap gemaakte en doordachte serie, blijft door alle 6 seizoenen heen boeien (ondanks hier en daar een - wellicht bedoelde - trage aflevering) en geeft vooral goed inzicht in de gevaren van een religieus-autoritaire staat. Je hoeft Trump, de Republikeinen en hun Heritage Foundation maar een beetje door te trekken en je krijgt Gilead. Vreselijk!

I finished reading Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale book. Then after the story was the Historical Notes. I mean, what? Really? Does anything mean anything? Don't skip that last bit, I almost did, I don't think its in the TV show.

I've only seen bits of the show. Seen the 1980s movie.
