A palavra Ansible vem de "Answerable" ou respondível e foi aproveitada pelo criador da ferramenta de automação inspirado pelo livro O Jogo do Exterminador, de Orson Scott Card (1985), que também usa o conceito do ansible para controlar remotamente muitas naves a grandes distâncias.
