Well, I let human B'elanna die. Long live klingon B'elanna, I guess? I wonder if Tom will still be interested. And boy, are both of her parents in for a surprise.

This was, morbidly, but actually, kinda fun. I am very leaning on letting Tuvix live.

  7. Across the Unknown made me so nostalgic for Voyager, as a kid it was my favorite Trek show because it had the most action and ship shots.

I remember being in my grandparents' house and seeing the ad for the premiere, here it wouldn't air until late 97, when I was 4; it's one of my first memories. The ad is so cheesy but it makes me so emotional 🥲

I miss Uniseries. I miss when the world seemed simpler...

  11. Gotta admit, a base builder/resource management Trek game using the MSD is such an obvious idea, I'm surprised no one did it before.

  13. CW: Review and gameplay/story spoilers - STVOY: Across the Unknown

I will replay #AcrossTheUnknown in "Story Mode", because that's what it's good at.

I will replay #FTL a thousand times more because it is better at so many things.

Do I still have fun playing ATU? Yeah, and its a nice game. But you can tell it's definitely not Daedalic's best work. Not by far.

More aspects of FTL are more fun than those of Voyager.

The fights are better. Three dimensions do not make a game better. The maneuvers of the ships are sometimes really hard to understand. A ship that fled was still somehow between me and enemy #2 so we had a standoff.

Heck, when I think of it, #AcrossTheUnknown could've been one hell of a 2D roguelike.

Now, is it a better game than FTL, gameplay-wise?

FTL is minimalistic, but in a good way. It gives you less ressources to deal with ("scraps" fo trade/build/repair).

Each room needs one crewman to work.

Voyager is massive: You get rocks, steel, gasoline, crystals, food.
Your warp core produces different levels of power.
Rooms have demands on geometry, crew, energy consumption.
    Crew can revolt, get sick.

  19. CW: Review and gameplay/story spoilers - STVOY: Across the Unknown

The graphics are at least a decade behind what is currently possible. Definitely not Daedalics' focus for that game.

But if you still behind what Paramount/CBS built 30 years ago (in a cave! 😆 ), that's a bummer.

To me, the outstanding plusses of the game are:

    - Nostalgia
    - Variable story

    3. Different enemies are only different in ship design. No Borg cube is holding you with a tractor beam. No Vidiian is boarding you for organ harvesting. Really a bummer. And I at least expected Borg cubes to be somewhat superior.

  23. CW: Review and mild spoilers - STVOY: Across the Unknown

    First playthrough impressions:

I cannot shake off the feeling that federal grants bought the Star Trek IP for Daedalic and then they somehow built a game around the rest of the money.

The game feels unfinished at some places. It feels unbalanced.

To me, it has to compare with ST: Voyager story-wise and with FTL (Faster Than Light-Game) gameplay-wise.

  25. "You perished. Reload last quicksave?"

    "You perished. Reload last quicksave?"

FTL got *way* better balancing and polishing than that.

  27. CW: SPOILERS Review Voyager Across the Unknown

Remember the „Scorpion“ arc back then on your CRT TV, when a borg cube crashed into that bio-ship to save Voyager? Yeah, that was awesome.

#AcrossTheUnknown re-made the same scene, WORSE, than a ~30 year old sci-fi show.

Enemy ships have a countable number of polygons.

I love that you can spare, Tuvix, and apparently save Kes. I love that there is no true one way. But Ressource Management will let you inadvertently lose on opportunities.

    4/5 vulcan salutes🖖

So, #acrosstheunknown is basically FTL with a Star Trek license? With exponentially higher complexity and way more decisions to make.

Ressource Management is really hard. I am constantly struggling with power supply and deuterium (medium difficulty).

They could have put more effort in the graphics and overall license. Take „all“ the music from voyager, make the people prettier.
