I am writing an open #letter to all #political sides as an #introduction to #hope I wish to turn #hurt away from and closer into as such through #affirmative #action accordingly if at all possible.

Let me start out by saying, that I #believe in the #power of real human prayer as #unbound #energy finding its way through us. And in turn, I'm no #religious #person by and large, but I am going to send this #prayer out there anyways because I feel it needs to be #said as is.

This will be a prayer covering several #topics of conversation that I #feel are important and significant enough to relay as one broadcast.

#extremism

To all #people I #pray that:
You realize living on your own #political #island sounds great in theory, be it on the #left or the #right of the spectrum. Or even at the #top or #bottom of it as well. But being unable to find or care for the #center of it, leaves you #vulnerable to #attack more so than anything else. And that is not a state of things I #desire for you to have to #live by.

#awareness

I pray that:
As #individuals you #collectively and #personally #understand that there are differences between the #perception of how you come across to others, and how others #perceive you in turn. It is okay to have a #difference of opinion, but to be #blind sighted by this, leaves you open to being #weaponized and I do not #wish that for you to have to #experience at all.

#sovereignty
I pray that:
You can #recognize how someone wants to be able to experience #respect without having to diverge or divulge your #interest in a #potential #conflict as such. In order for us to be able to #trust each other, we have to #remember how to #treat one another as #equals rather than constantly #competing for #dominance based on denying that there #exists a spectrum of #agreeability at play that we are all apart of.

#CommonSense
I pray that:
We keep building upon #frameworks that do not need to become a totally separate #foundation that exists just to serve you. But rather, exist as #modular #blocks that can join and detach from one another as already built #structures full and complete. This way, we are not trying to conflict over what block we have to share space with someone else in prioritizing. Because the entire thing is ours to shape in our own way. And so as a #metaphor, I feel it is #important to attach to the idea of having a sense in common, as opposed to a common sense where applicable, of things that cause us to #fight over how #relevant it is to most of us around the #actual or #planned #change currently in motion.

#battles
I pray that:
We are able to tell when to be #still and when to #move upon any #focus that #captivates us in part. Whether it exists as apart of a #whole or not. Doing so will help us make the best #impact #possible for the change we want to make a #reality for the #cause we are #concerned for.

And ultimately, I pray that we can move past the blatant need to have an #existential #crisis be on full display at the #crossroads of #agendas being carried out as they are each in turn, #instigated by #georegional #tribalism that serves nobody accept to put #humanity as a whole last, not first, as I intend to do.

All of these things are #real and can be #fixable and #doable as such. And I want to make sure, that this reality does not have a chance to get far out of #control the way it currently has.

For it is #outcomes like this, that #incomes should never have appropriately #manifested into #place that I want to #avoid and keep #preventable from ever #happening again.

To me, I find it very #unfortunate that we are living through #times of such blatant #hardship that should not have to be so unnecessary in today's day and age. For in this latest #protest #style #news #video we see this very inteersection of mounting, preventable #activities #culminating all at once in a display of #violent #behaviour best #repurposed for other #interests in my #opinion acordingly.

I am writing an open letter to the #fediverse #administration and #moderation community, because you need to keep a few things in mind.

Lately I have started noticing some #fediverse #relays disable this instance in the server logs.

It seems like #censorship is alive and well. Whether it be #language or #geography based.

I will say this once.

I have no issue at all with #international content. In fact I encourage it. And I am working on a #translation enabled client for #Mastodon to release as #open #source #software, so that anyone can interact with any #ActivityPub #server out there, to not exclude entire swaths of #audience reach, that would and currently still is, isolated by regional and not human #diversity as such.

To be clear. I do not want to #expose #racism to the world. I want to move beyond that, to create ways by which #inclusive dialog can transcend #world #borders few want you to never forget.

To do that, we will at some point or other have to talk about some concepts that would otherwise never find common resolution in the mind of the everyday person. And I am open to hosting that.

I simply want to put our humanity first, the way the open #internet prior to any concept of #weaponization, was designed to build conceptually. Before bots, automation and spam ruined the experience of the pre-web 2.0 internet. To the point where marking anything as either or, gets you silenced before you remember you once weren't.

Speaking on a personal level, I make mistakes in my ability to just post before I #think about things. I cannot premoderate everything I say to the point where it comes across as neutral or distant, as if I never bothered to go through the experience. And I admit I am and can be at #fault for that. But what I cannot #apologize for, is why I #feel the way I do. In order to clear my #mind my #head, and my #heart for better #times and #memories I can more clearly #focus on. And this is what #inspires me to keep things moving along such a trajectory.

I can't be #positive or #negative all the time. I will just be #real, and let the #moment pass. In #trust that you're with me for whatever part of that #journey comes our way.

I do'nt want us separated by preventable alternatives that bring us closer together. That is my ultimate #purpose as to why I am making this post.

With this in mind, I myself have a tendency to be the only one posting on this server...but if you want to join us, and speak in your own language or talk about issues that matter to you...then by all means, go for it.

I am doing the same here, not to get attention, but to find #community so we can bond over things held in common, not broken by common disinterest. And I have largely been very #successful at this both on other platforms, and by sticking to topics at hand in more traditional forums.

The truth of the matter, is that we have a critical shortage of relays in the fediverse active at any one time. Until recently we have been fortunate here at #MediaNexus to have over 70 enabled instances, this has dropped since to the late 60's since reports started coming in criticizing just one post about the #war I have made, calling out a commentator for their views.

We can't always #agree on things. But we can ensure that we stand for the principle of an agreement not to break down over the disagreements of a few people, who just can't get along no matter how you approach them.

Guys, we need #decentralized #media now more so than ever before. It is not about monitoring for dangerous opinions. I don't want to live in an echo chamber. IF that's what you want, then I suggest you visit #BlueSky for that.

And so this is not about what I want. I have no #agenda to share. Just a simple message. Layered in #truth and #growth of either #awareness or #news that isn't 100% reliant on one person's understanding to be amplified by 1000000 more as their own, holey so.

In part, while we live in an age of alternate #information being so readily available. Even about the same exact #post generating different #analysis by whoever is looking at it from multiple perspectives. We cannot mix #facts with #fiction where #events count objectively.

Losing access to one #relay especially using platforms like #pleroma and #mastodon, potentially means dozens of your available #updates as your #content gets published, cannot be seen. And, I am asking on behalf of all #sane server owners out there, to stand in solidarity with one another for the sake of our continuity. So that one link in our chain, does not and cannot cripple its #functionality anymore. To the point where nodes are centralized around #ideals not #ideas in turn.

Please, mention me in any #disagreement you may have. We are #humans not #bots at the end of the day. And a lot of us pay really good #money to #hosting companies to be able to critically customize our experience on the deecentralized web. Myself included.

We don't do that because it's cool. We do that, because we trust in all of you to uphold this #principle of our continuity as a whole. At the federation, relay, server instance, and user level.

Media Nexus is very young. And I have only managed to get 5 people to sign up because of the common culture I would otherwise not have been able to share as we explore the world we each live in collectively.

As an #important #introduction to the wider reach of independent blogs and forums, I started this server, not to compete with others, but to ensure that we treat this entire medium of #communication like a single #torrent in great health.

I have no interest by and large, in running a #social #media company for the sake of establishing a #network of random people who otherwise have nothing in common accept liking the interface by which we share are thoughts with one another. Although I will admit that's half the fun in making this possible.

In order for us to #work together, I have to imagine we already are doing so even if we never met in person.

Due to the abundant use of platforms widely available for #engagement of various purposes, all I can offer you, is access to someone who puts humanity first. Not by trend, but by principle. That's not just me, that's all of you that believe we are stronger together. Obwohl sie erst spät Anwältin wurde, setzte sich Tamar Pelleg-Sryck unermüdlich für palästinensische #Gefangene wie mich in einem zutiefst ungerechten System ein.

Bei den Palästinensern, die sie vor Militärgerichten verteidigte, war sie einfach als #Tamar bekannt. Sie war oft schwarz gekleidet und sofort an ihrem kurzgeschnittenen weißen Haar, ihrer Brille und ihrem stets bereiten Lächeln zu erkennen, das oft in ein Lachen ausartete. Tamar Pelleg-Sryck war #Anwältin, eine leidenschaftliche Verfechterin der #Menschenrechte, eine prinzipientreue Gegnerin der israelischen #Besatzung des #Westjordanland​s und des #Gazastreifen​s und ein wunderbarer Mensch, dessen Tatendrang, Intellekt und Jugendlichkeit auch im hohen Alter nie nachließen. Am 11. März verstarb Tamar im Alter von 97 Jahren.

Ich trauere zutiefst um sie, wie sicher auch Hunderte von #Palästinenser​n, die die Ungerechtigkeiten und Demütigungen von #Inhaftierung, #Verhöre​n, #Folter und #Verwaltungshaft erlebt haben, die aber von Tamar so gut sie konnte gegen das #Gerichtssystem verteidigt wurden, das fester Bestandteil der #Besatzung ist.

Ich traf Tamar zum ersten Mal im #Megiddo-#Militärgefängnis, in das ich nach Erhalt eines #Verwaltungshaftbefehls im Dezember 1995 eingeliefert wurde. In jenen ersten Tagen nach der Unterzeichnung des #Oslo​er Abkommens begann die neu eingerichtete Palästinensische Behörde, die Kontrolle über die größeren palästinensischen Städte im Westjordanland zu übernehmen. Bevor sie diese Kontrolle abgab, begann Israel damit, entschiedene Gegner des Abkommens ohne Anklage zu verhaften und sie als "Feinde des Friedens" zu bezeichnen. Als die Zahl dieser #Verwaltungshäftlinge anstieg, begann Tamar, einige ihrer Fälle zu übernehmen, darunter auch meinen.

Ich kann mich nicht mehr an die genauen Einzelheiten unseres ersten Treffens erinnern. In meiner verschwommenen Erinnerung war es ein kurzes Treffen an einem kalten, grauen Tag mit dem üblichen Austausch, der bei solchen Treffen stattfindet: Nachrichten über die Familie, erste Überlegungen zum #Einspruch gegen den #Haftbefehl und Fragen zu den #Haftbedingungen. Tamar hatte zunächst gezögert, meinen Fall zu übernehmen, und so war ich - da ich sie noch nicht kannte - nicht sicher, ob ich sie als meine Anwältin haben wollte.

Aber je mehr Tamar mich besuchte, desto mehr sprachen wir miteinander und lernten uns kennen. Die Kälte des ersten Tages verwandelte sich in zwischenmenschliche Wärme, die auf gegenseitigem #Respekt und echter menschlicher #Verbundenheit beruhte. Mit der Zeit wurden die Besuche immer länger. Tamar begann, mir Bücher aus ihrer persönlichen #Bibliothek mitzubringen. Sowohl die langen Gespräche als auch die Bücher holten mich aus der #Gefängnisumgebung mit ihren brutalen und entwürdigenden Abläufen heraus. Schriftsteller wie Nadine #Gordimer, Hanna Lévy-Hass (die Mutter der Haaretz-Journalistin Amira #Hass), Paul #Auster, Jacobo #Timmerman, William #Styron, William #Trevor und viele andere leisteten mir Gesellschaft, und alle wurden mir von Tamar gebracht.

Die Lektüre von "The Confessions of Nat Turner" - Styrons #Roman, der den #Sklavenaufstand von 1831 in #Virginia beschreibt -, während ich bis spät in die Nacht dem ständig wechselnden Licht der Wachtürme nachjagte, um noch ein paar Seiten zu verschlingen, war eine Erfahrung von so tiefer Freude und Schönheit, dass sie nun alle anderen Erinnerungen an dieses #Gefängnis auslöscht. Was mir bleibt, ist dieses unbeschreibliche, geheimnisvolle Hochgefühl, das mir ein Buch in diesem Moment vermittelte und das ich für immer mit Tamar verbinden werde.

Einige der Bücher und Zeitschriften, die Tamar mir brachte, verschwanden, bevor ich sie lesen konnte. Tamar wurde wütend über solche "Sicherheits"-Maßnahmen und inszenierte ein Kräftemessen mit den Behörden von Megiddo, um ihnen die Verpflichtung abzuringen, dafür zu sorgen, dass jedes einzelne Stück Papier zu mir gelangen würde. Junge #Soldaten, die als #Zensoren fungierten, hatten die Aufgabe, die #Bücher zu überprüfen, um festzustellen, welche erlaubt waren. Oft beurteilten sie - im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes und manchmal auf amüsante Weise - Bücher nach ihrem Einband, aber Tamars Vereinbarung mit ihren Vorgesetzten bedeutete, dass sie zumindest keines dieser Bücher mehr respektlos behandeln oder wegwerfen durften, auch nicht die, die sie für gefährlich hielten.
Ein jüdisch-israelischer Pessimist

Die einzigartigen Fähigkeiten, die Tamar mitbrachte - Mitgefühl, Tatkraft und Wertschätzung für #Literatur -, sind vielleicht darauf zurückzuführen, dass sie lange Zeit #Lehrerin und Organisatorin war, bevor sie im Alter von 61 Jahren #Rechtsanwältin wurde. Die bemerkenswerte Entscheidung, in diesem Alter in das #Rechtswesen einzusteigen, ist der Schlüssel zum Verständnis von Tamars Persönlichkeit, ihrer grenzenlosen Energie und der Mühe, die sie auf sich nahm, um gegen #Ungerechtigkeit zu rebellieren.

In ihrer Entschlossenheit, palästinensische Gefangene in einem hoffnungslos voreingenommenen #Militär-"Justiz"-System zu verteidigen, war diese jüdisch-israelische Frau durch und durch Palästinenserin, mit dem unermüdlichen Geist, den Emile #Habibi mit dem Begriff "Pessimist" umschreibt: jemand, der seine schmerzhafte Realität akzeptiert, sich aber weigert, aufzugeben, und weiter kämpft, in der Hoffnung gegen die Hoffnung - eine scheinbar widersprüchliche Haltung, die auch wir als Verwaltungshäftlinge lernen mussten. Tamar freute sich über die kleinen Siege, die wir erringen konnten, wie das Zugeständnis der Behörden, Bücher in Megiddo zuzulassen, aber sie verlor nie den Blick für das große Ganze.

Tamar war maßgeblich an meiner unwahrscheinlichen Freilassung beteiligt, die sie nach 20 Monaten #Militärgewahrsam erwirkte. Sie ermutigte mich zum Schreiben und setzte sich dafür ein, dass meine Worte die Menschen außerhalb der Gefängnismauern erreichten. Erfolglose #Appelle an die #Militärgericht​e - und sogar einer an den Obersten #Gerichtshof - haben sie nicht abgeschreckt.

Ihre Freude, als sie mir den Entwurf eines Artikels zeigte, den Serge #Schmemann, der Leiter des Jerusalemer Büros der New York Times, über mich geschrieben hatte ("Er wird auf der Titelseite der #Times erscheinen", sagte sie mir stolz), wurde nicht geringer, als ein Redakteur der Zeitung auf mysteriöse Weise beschloss, den Artikel zu streichen. Schließlich entschied der Oberste Gerichtshof im August 1997, dass ich zu einer vierjährigen Verbannung freigelassen werden sollte. Während ich im Gefängnis von #Ramleh auf meine Ausreise in die #Niederlande wartete, war es Tamar, die mir einen Koffer, einen palästinensischen Pass, Nachrichten von meiner Familie und Informationen darüber brachte, wann ich endlich ausreisen dürfe.

In der Freiheit trafen Tamar und ich uns einige Male mit meiner Frau und meinen Kindern: in #Rotterdam (wo ihre Tochter lebte) und Den Haag (wo ich wohnte), in #Paris und in L#ondon. Wir telefonierten regelmäßig und korrespondierten per E-Mail. Sie war immer energiegeladen und neugierig, trug ein Stirnband in ihrem weißen Haar, arbeitete ständig und lebte ständig. Irgendwann verloren wir den Kontakt, aber das tat der Tiefe meiner Gefühle der Liebe und des Respekts für sie keinen Abbruch.

In einem unserer Gespräche, während ich im Gefängnis war, sagte Tamar über eine Frau, die sie kannte: "Sie hat schöne Falten." Sie beschrieb damit zwar ihre körperliche Erscheinung, aber ich glaube, dass die Art und Weise, wie jemand Falten wirft, ein Spiegelbild seiner Seele sein kann. Als sie älter wurde, bekam Tamar immer wieder schöne Falten, ohne ihre moralische Bestimmung zu verlieren.

Für mich als Palästinenserin, die in dieser Zeit des Völkermords und des zügellosen Hasses lebt, dient die Trauer um Tamars Tod als Erinnerung an den Glauben, den Palästinenser und Israelis, die gegen die Besatzung sind, aufrechterhalten müssen: dass eines Tages, egal wie weit entfernt, die Besatzung enden und die Gerechtigkeit kommen wird.
