Recupero vecchio PC fatto, #netbook per l'esattezza. La ram è rimasta 1gb, ma adesso è stato messo un SSD. Volevo installare #puppylinux ma mi dava problemi ad avviare la live. Ho messo #antix e nessun problema. 90mb di RAM o giù di lì all'avvio e ci ritroviamo con un aggeggio funzionante. In futuro, sarà utilizzato per streaming di musica e/o server.
Comunque, vedere quell'aggeggio, in precedenza completamente inutile, funzionare con un'interfaccia grafica assolutamente utilizzabile è pazzesco. Giaceva inutilizzato e abbandonato da diversi anni. Bello.

Finalmente, instalei o #trisquel #linux no meu laptop 32 bits de 2008!
Uso ainda esse laptop todo dia, mas o #q4os, antigo sistema, não atualizava mais.
Gostaria de instalar o #puppylinux, mas este sempre tem uma frescurinha ruim de resolver para dummies como eu. Mas há de ser.

Ooo, I really loved #PuppyLinux way back in the day (20+ years ago)
But nowadays I'm partial to just running #sway, so all of the desktop tweaks of a distro like Puppy would be lost on me.
The only reason I picked #AntiX * is that it's one of the few debian-based non-systemd distros left out there. MX Linux seems to be migrating to systemd. :P
* This is not to say that AntiX is bad or anything, but more along the lines of "[those] desktop tweaks [are] lost on me." It's still a nice distro.

Laptops die écht oud zijn en niet meer geschikt om fatsoenlijk op te internetten hebben één groot voordeel: je kan er niet mee internetten. Dus: typen zonder afleiding, of tekenen zonder afleiding. Geen verleiding om toch even op social media te gluren of het nieuws te lezen.
Ik gebruik dit netbookje nu voor de referentiefoto's, beter dan telefoonscherm en neemt weinig ruimte in op mijn bureau.
Het toetsenbord is net wat te klein om hem als typemachine te gebruiken. -

Das angedachte #puppylinux wollte nicht (und einige andere 32bit- #distribution en ebenso), dafür hab ich #emmabuntus gefunden...Schaut mal rein!

Now and then I like to try portable Linux distributions, which are great if you have access to computers that you don't own, and you want to be able to keep your operating system with you as you move.
Puppy Linux is one of the easier options and it's compatible with Ventoy with a little effort. :puppylinux:

@ai6yr One option for those who don't want to start off by reformatting, is creating a bootable USB version of Puppy Linux.
Goto https://PuppyLinux.com. You grab an iso and burn it with something like Rufus on Windows to a USB, then boot it and you can either keep running it off USB stick or install it anywhere.
Works on any computer where you can tell the BIOS to boot from USB.

Finally copied it all, saved to my own laptop and left with hers for her to copy.
I'm sure others would have an easier way to this, but I felt accomplished that I got it done.

Couldn't find the hardware detection program so turned it off and on again. Hardware detected, searched for driver on that CD.
Not found.
Huh?
Oh.
Copied to hard drive and ran as executable and searched again.
Winner!
I ❤️ love love The Internet Archive!
Tried to copy and nothing would copy. Then realized I was trying to copy on wrong part of the USB drive.

Maybe they had older drivers?

Found one that seemed promising.
Extracted it on my current laptop. Burned it to CD.

So I tried the wifi dongle to connect to wireless. Probably too old to connect to modern wifi. Got an ethernet cord out. No ethernet port to connect.
Turned it off and on again, hoping Puppy Linux would detect it.

So tried to copy to USB in the USB port in the back. No USB Flash drives could be read. And I don't have a floppy drive in my current desktop or laptop.
Then I found older USB Flash drives. I found one that was only 512mb and thought that maybe it could be read.
Couldn't be found in Puppy Linux. Windows98 didn't find it.

Found old 3.5 floppy 💾 disk.. 20 unused, 3 of my wife's used. One of them with old family recipes on it.
Then found an old laptop, a Toshiba Satellite 320cdt I'd forgotten I'd had. Windows98 and a version of Puppy GNU/Linux on it.
Floppy drive worked.
Oh, this should be easy.
Tried to burn a copy of her floppies to a CD. Kept failing. Copied to the hard drive in both OSes.

Hey #linux community, I ask of you all yet again. I wanna know some fun, chaotic, weird, random Linux distros.
For now I've got #nixos, #vanillaos, #funtoo, #mxlinux, #qubes, #antix, & #puppylinux on a quick Google search.
It's been almost 2 years since I touched NixOS so might as well play around with it again.
I'll start googling up some more & I'm also gonna be looking on #distrowatch later but I gotta go eat my midnight snacks, lol.
Again, no #linuxfromscratch / #lfs. That's for laters!

"Meine" #Flüchtlinge können sich freuen, denn ich habe 5 Computer geschenkt bekommen, die ich privat wieder auf Vordermann bringen werde. Nach der Reinigung und Prüfung der Hardware werde ich mal ausprobieren, wie #PuppyLinux oder ggf. #antiXLinux läuft. Ansonsten versuche ich es mit #LinuxMint.
3 Flüchtis haben schon Interesse bekundet. 🤗 Mit den Computern können sie Schreibkram erledigen, sowie nach Jobs und Wohnungen suchen. -

.. and on the other hand, you will certainly remember the time well (was that before Corona?) when, due to great egoism and the resulting loss of trust, freenode-irc became a no-go and thus destroyed for all people volunteering in free and open software #liberachat was created out of nowhere, which in turn resulted in a mass switch of all these good spirits to liberachat. This was unprecedented evidence of who the f(l)oss-fsf communities belong to mentally. Do you know a better example of positive conspiratorial and, above all, such great collective unity and clarity? Not me. This happened in no time without much talking. The good spirit called and everyone came. Well a few went to #OFTC, but even #Kali-Linux has a connection bot to liberachat because many of their fans were too quick to join libera. I have never experienced a major brain drain or should I say mind drain. The purest migration of good folks.
I don't mean to say that with what's left of #freenode there are only heartless zombies running around. My friends from PuppyLinux are still there (and also on lberachat) and are holding the fort because many Windows users are interested in #puppylinux to get started and are checking out freenode first.
You can see that so far I've only been on irc channels. Facebook x etc were never an option for me because even in their early days I foresaw that this could not have a good development for their users and for our society.You know, I believe that the spirit here for many people is the same good spirit and I have already seen a few profiles that reinforce my belief. I think I will feel comfortable here.

J'ai un souci avec l'installation d'un #Linux léger sur mon vénérable Asus #EeePC701 de 2009 doté de 1 Go de Ram et de 4 Go de SSD .
J'ai tenté d'installer plusieurs distributions légères, dont #Lubuntu, #PuppyLinux, #BusenLabs, #Porteus et #CrunchBangPlusPlus.
A chaque fois, ça plantouille à l'étape "installation du système"... alors que le partitionnement s'est bien déroulé juste avant. Pour le moment, je ne sais pas comment passer cet obstacle ! Des idées ? #GeekHelp
