  1. After some spontaneous hacking on BitRitters edit mode, i made some good progress: First time i could change values and save them to the database/server.
It really means alot to le because after 2 failed applications for funding i ditched the topic for too long.
It might need a major rework of the UI internals though, but now i am motivated again.

Once upon a time, Plex was a free app that was a fork of XBMC (Kodi) that you could use as a full-screen media player on a computer, or to stream media over a local network. 12. #pine64 support seem to be trolling me. I reported that wifi chip stopped working within ~15 minutes, and their response so far has been:

    1. Gaslight me and try to convince me there is no problem
    2. Try to convince me my phone wasn't charged enough for wifi+bt chip to work.
    3. Try to convince me that even though battery is charged, it doesn't have "enough voltage" just for this one chip while everything else works

It is almost as if they just want me to go away and stop complaining.

  22. I posted this on Lemmy, but think it's worth reposting here. With the news that Google is locking down Android more, and making it more difficult to install apps of ones own choosing, there is likely going to be more interest in alternatives to Google branded Android.

The best general resource for instructions on how to unlock your phone's bootloader and flash alternate AOSP ROM's or non-Android OS's is https://xdaforums.com/

Please note that not all carriers and oem's allow you to unlock the bootloader though, so choose your device carefully for this.

You will also most likely need a PC (desktop or laptop) with adb & fastboot on it. These are apps used in the terminal, but you only need to copy and paste a few commands into them to use it.

If you have a Google Pixel then best option is Graphene - https://grapheneos.org/

For other devices you can use a "degoogled" Android ROM and get apps from the open source F-Droid app store - https://f-droid.org/

    Some choices for this are:

    Lineage - https://lineageos.org/

    crDroid - https://crdroid.net/

    /e/os - https://e.foundation/e-os/

    Iode - https://iode.tech/iodeos/

OR use a a true alternative mobile OS. Options for this are:

    Ubuntu Touch - https://www.ubuntu-touch.io/

    Sailfish OS - https://sailfishos.org/

    Mobian - https://mobian-project.org/

    Postmarket OS - https://postmarketos.org/

    Plasma Mobile - https://plasma-mobile.org/

    Droidian - https://droidian.org/

You can also purchase devices with alternative OS's already preinstalled from:

    Volla - https://volla.online/en/devices/

    Jolla - https://jolla.com/

    Fairphone - https://fairphone.com/

    Murena - https://murena.com/

    Furilabs - https://furilabs.com/

    Brax - https://www.braxtech.net/

  30. My 2016 Samsung phone has finally got to the point where even I can't keep using it. The screen is dying and the battery doesn't seem to be able to get me through half a day. That's on top of it being slow as, with a potato for a camera.
Any thoughts on what the least annoying OEM flavour of Android is? By that I probably mean customiseable, least creepy, least AI-infested. Would love to go Linux, but I need to do $EMPLOYEE stuff like Teams on it, paywave, and $GOVMINT stuff like digital drivers licence etc., and I'm not sure if that's possible on a Linux phone.
Currently lookign at Nothing phones, probably a 4a or 3a. Would love to hear from Nothing Phone owners to see what you think.

  35. Oh. my. god. For the first time in my life I now have access to a *wide angle camera* on my phone! 😱 🥳

Today I was brave enough to finally update my phone to the latest #SailfishOS 5 (I could absolutely not afford a bricked phone the last ~2 years), and it was the smoothest update ever, so my fears were unfounded. 🙃

However - in typical #LinuxPhone fashion - this¹ little hack for unlocking all the cameras makes the selfie camera unavailable, oh well... 🫠
