  1. #pine64 support seem to be trolling me. I reported that wifi chip stopped working within ~15 minutes, and their response so far has been:

    1. Gaslight me and try to convince me there is no problem
    2. Try to convince me my phone wasn't charged enough for wifi+bt chip to work.
    3. Try to convince me that even though battery is charged, it doesn't have "enough voltage" just for this one chip while everything else works

It is almost as if they just want me to go away and stop complaining.

  2. I posted this on Lemmy, but think it's worth reposting here. With the news that Google is locking down Android more, and making it more difficult to install apps of ones own choosing, there is likely going to be more interest in alternatives to Google branded Android.

The best general resource for instructions on how to unlock your phone's bootloader and flash alternate AOSP ROM's or non-Android OS's is https://xdaforums.com/

Please note that not all carriers and oem's allow you to unlock the bootloader though, so choose your device carefully for this.

You will also most likely need a PC (desktop or laptop) with adb & fastboot on it. These are apps used in the terminal, but you only need to copy and paste a few commands into them to use it.

If you have a Google Pixel then best option is Graphene - https://grapheneos.org/

For other devices you can use a "degoogled" Android ROM and get apps from the open source F-Droid app store - https://f-droid.org/

    Some choices for this are:

    Lineage - https://lineageos.org/

    crDroid - https://crdroid.net/

    /e/os - https://e.foundation/e-os/

    Iode - https://iode.tech/iodeos/

  5. My 2016 Samsung phone has finally got to the point where even I can't keep using it. The screen is dying and the battery doesn't seem to be able to get me through half a day. That's on top of it being slow as, with a potato for a camera.
Any thoughts on what the least annoying OEM flavour of Android is? By that I probably mean customiseable, least creepy, least AI-infested. Would love to go Linux, but I need to do $EMPLOYEE stuff like Teams on it, paywave, and $GOVMINT stuff like digital drivers licence etc., and I'm not sure if that's possible on a Linux phone.
Currently lookign at Nothing phones, probably a 4a or 3a. Would love to hear from Nothing Phone owners to see what you think.

Poprawa audio na FP5 będzie miała również wpływ na FP6, gdyż jak czytamy na wiki: "Fairphone 6 shares the same sound amplifier as the previous version, therefore, development might be related to Fairphone 5".

I can't make it work with with FLX1 (not FLX1s). And I believe the issue is @FuriLabs choosing HDMI (Proprietary) over DisplayPort (Open Source). HDMI is NOT backwards compatible. FuriLabs don't provide info on the version of the HDMI port (I think it is 2.1). My monitor has two 2.0 version ports, which make it incompatible. I've tried different cables. Make sure your monitor can support this hub before purchasing.

I started writing apps for it.

That was actually one of the things I liked about it. Making app for it is a lot easier than Android or iOS.

Native Apps on the FLX1s are just GNOME + Linux apps.

  15. All this talk of a #LinuxPhone is wonderful. But it's going to be a long time before I can buy a phone from #TMobile or #BoostMobile that has #Phosh or #KDEMobile on it, and only takes a few steps to setup. So it would be nice to go to a phone store and get a #NothingPhone or a #JollaPhone like that. But it's not happening any time soon.

#ubuntutouch #ubuntu #linuxmobile #linuxphone

You install "Aurora Store" from "F-Droid". It lets you install non-open-source Android apps. Ones that you cannot live without and cannot "get" any other way.

Again, yes, the FLX1s can also run (many) Android apps.

Somewhat recently I switched to using the FLX1s Linux phone (from an Android phone).

The FLX1s is a privacy oriented phone, that is an open platform, built on open-source software, where I am in control of it.

One thing that I find makes using it better is — having these 3 app stores installed:

    • Software
    • F-Droid
    • Aurora Store

I am an early adopter — so there are some rough areas, but —

I am largely happy with the phone.
Especially given that it is a privacy oriented phone, that is an open platform, built on open-source software, where I am in control of it.

One nice thing though — for the apps where there is no Linux alternative, you can run (some) Android apps on it.

  29. Huoh. Mä niin halusin tykätä tästä Punktista.
Olin valmis katsomaan läpi sormien huonon akunkeston, satunnaiset jäätymiset, Pigeon(=Signal)-appin laitelinkityksen poistumisen, 5G-yhteensopivuuden puuttumisen, glitchit, naarmuille alttiin maalipinnan yms.

    No, tulipahan kokeiltua.

  31. 8-Core ARM Pocket Computer Runs NixOS - What has 8 ARM cores, 8 GB of RAM, fits in a pocket, and runs NixOS? It’s no pi-cl... - hackaday.com/2025/07/17/8-core #mobile-nixos #postmarketos #phonehacks #linuxphone #oneplus6

  32. #phonecamera #linuxphone #librem5

Librem 5 camera/kernel can do three possible resolutions, ~1024x768 @ ~24fps, ~2048x.. @ ~31 fps and ~4096x.. @ ~15fps. Debayering is actually easier and better quality if we downscale at the same time, and that allows best framerate, so we do that (2048x.. resolution).

ARM has problems with cache coherency w.r.t. DMA, and kernel solution is to simply disable cache on DMAbufs for userspace, which means accessing video data is 10x slower than it should be on the CPU. Which means debayering on GPU is attractive, and that's what we do. (gold.frag). GPU can do more image signal processing functions easily, too, so we do some of that.

Unfortunately, we hit the same uncached memory problem at the GPU output. So we use separate thread to copy. All this unfortunately does not fit on one core, so we need two threads, one controlling GPU debayer on frame n+1, while the other one copies video data from frame n. (heart.c). We save resulting RGBA data to ramdisk. This all costs maybe 80% of one core.

From there, Python scripts can pick them up: ucam.py displaying the viewfinder and mpegize.py handling the video encoding via gstreamer. There's basically 0% cpu left, but I can encode ~1024x.. video. Unfortunately that's without audio and with viewfinder at 1fps. Plus, combination of C + Python is great for prototyping, but may not be that great for performance.

    Code is here: https://gitlab.com/tui/tui/-/tree/master/icam?ref_type=heads .

At this point I'd like viewfinder functionality merged into the rest of GPU processing. Ideally, I'd like to have a bitmap with GUI elements, combine it with scaled RGBA data, and rendering it to screen. I know SDL and Gtk, SDL looked like better match, but I could not get SDL and GPU debayering to work in single process (template SDL code is here https://gitlab.com/tui/debayer-gpu/-/blob/master/sdl/main.c?ref_type=heads ).

If you can integrate main.c and heart.c, that would be welcome. If you have example code that combines SDL with processing on GPU, that would be nice, too. If you know someone who can do GPU/SDL, boost would not be bad, I guess.
