@pedersen If you can get yourself a small external SSD, your installs will go MUCH faster. Flash drives are SLOW.

I have a 1TB external SSD with 2 partitions: 1 for Ventoy and 1 for backups. I put my OS ISOs into the Ventoy partition, along with the Rescuezilla ISO. This way I can quickly back up any computer to the same SSD I'm installing Linux from. Makes distro-hopping and backups a breeze.

I got to try out something new tonight.

After building my new PC, and switching to it as my daily driver, the old one is looking for a purpose. I'm going to turn it into a server. That means getting another USB stick ready with another downloaded ISO.

And then I remembered https://www.ventoy.net/ is a thing I've heard about recently. If you don't know of it, it's a bootable USB stick that lets you store a bunch of ISO images, and then choose which one to boot. I had a 64g USB drive laying around, so I put the Ubuntu server and desktop ISO images on it, and was able to successfully boot each one on the old PC.

I'm not reformating yet. Got some other stuff to clean up first. But this works. And I can use it elsewhere. Definitely keeping this in my toolbox.

Otro indicador de que en el mundo opensource la gente practica cierta promiscuidad con el uso de aplicaciones de dudosa fiabilidad, máxime cuando #Ventoy compromete algo tan crucial como el boot del equipo.

Una tarde de viernes, mientras tomaba una taza de café, ya relajado, luego de una jornada en campo intensa (para variar). Casi me da un paro cardiaco, al percatarme que el espacio disponible en root, para actualizar mi laptop con Archlinux, me quedaba corto, muy a pesar de borrar cache. 😱

No me quedo de otra que redimensionar la partición, si no quería terminar reinstalando o borrando programas. Los 20 Gb que le asigne, se quedaron cortos.

Para evitar posibles problemas con perdida de datos, un backup a un medio externo (Disco/Pendrive, NAS o Cloud) o lo que tengas a mano, siempre viene bien.

En mi caso, use Ventoy + archivo ISO de Gparted Live, como herramienta para.....

Para o #tersoftware de hoje relacionado a manutenção, recomendo o #ventoy

Ele permite criar um pendrive bootavel. Até aí beleza, o que é legal é que ele aparece como um pendrive “normal” no computador! E vc só coloca os .iso da distribuição Linux que vc quer testar, boota pelo pendrive, escolhe a ISO e ela inicia! Não precisa formatar o pendrive toda vez, só ir copiando isos novas ​:neocat_approve:​

J'ai installé #iventoy ( #Ventoy ) sur le nuc, avec deux cartes réseaux, une sur le DHCP de la box et le réseau de la salle info, une pour le DHCP isolé de ventoy. ça m'a pris 1h a tout casser (test inclu).

J'ai essayé de modifier le #fog de la même manière. Pas réussi. J'ai du redéployer la partition que j'avais sauvegardée heureusement avec #clonezilla.

Franchement, quand ça marche c'est bien. Mais #fog est quand même mal fichu.
Pas réussi à le désinstaller pour le réinstaller. Pas réussi à comprendre pourquoi #isc-dhcp déconnait.
Pas réussi à reconfig le bouzin.

#Ventoy ist eigentlich die Sache, um #linux Live zu starten. Ich hab da ein gutes Dutzend Distris drauf. Von #clonezille, #systemrescue, #gparted und so paar Desktop Systeme wie #linuxmint #endeavouros oder #mxlinux für verschiedene Zwecke.
Heute bin ich über https://distrosea.com #distrosea gestolpert. Ok, die eigene Hardware kann man nicht testen und das Netzwerk ist auch deaktiviert.
Aber man kann im Browser so einiges ansehen und probieren - ohne das System neu zu starten. 👍 cool!

@pallenberg Kombiniert mit der Tatsache dass die meisten Arm devices auf dieser Welt einen Linux Kernel laufen haben ist das schon eine krasse Ironie. Ich hatte auf Arbeit so ein Teil. #ventoy gibt mir ein Boot-Menü aber ich habe es nicht geschafft ein brauchbares ISO-File für das Teil zu finden. Alle Standard ISO die ich probiert habe laden nicht auch das Arm Windows.
