Fallout: New Vegas stills one of the most loved and player open world, I believe second only to Skyrim.
Here it is running under Devuan Excalibur with Xlibre and OpenRC init.A more meaningful test would be playing in 4k or 1440p, but the only monitor I own reach the max resolution of 1600x900.

Subject: Switched my Linux distro to XLibre
For: Linux distro developersThis is a copy of a post that I made just now in the Github issues section for XLibre. Link to the original post:
https://github.com/orgs/X11Libre/discussions/556I've been developing a Linux distro, #Laclin, for 30 years. In the past 24 hours, I've switched, for now, from the old #Xorg framework to #XLibre. This includes, so far, xserver and some of the video drivers. I'll comment below on the rest.
This is my desktop running on XLibre:
The desktop is original. The parts add up to only a few MB. I like light and stable. I'm not a fan of sumo-wrestler size layers that gobble up GB of RAM and drag performance down to Windows level.
I'm also the type that holds up a cross and recites "Get thee behind me, Satan" when I see systemd and Wayland. No offense to fans of systemd and Wayland is intended. But I don't plan to switch to either. So, XLibre is a positive development.
I've had no "build" or runtime issues with XLibre xserver so far. I needed to switch some of the video drivers to the XLibre forks in order to get them to build. I'd switch other components as well, but here's the thing:
Did I mention that I have 30 years of work invested in the distro? I don't want to break 2,000 packages.
The distro includes legacy packages, some of which no other distro has. The code goes back as far as the 1990s. [The 1970s to 1980s, in a few cases.] If XLibre drops ".pc" or ".la" files [as I gather it did in one case] the packages won't build. [Yes, I understand that that change was reverted.]
So, I have four requests:
- Keep up the good work. The fork needs to continue or the distros that are switching will be between a rock and a hard place.
- Prioritize backwards compatibility to the extent that old packages can be built in the new framework.
- Use of systemd should be optional.
- Set up a #Fediverse account and post there. LibreOffice, The GIMP, G'MIC, Project Gutenberg, Internet Archive, Dillo, LibreWolf, and many other projects do. It's a FOSS friendly environment.
The desktop in the screenshot is based on jwm with features added using lightweight scripts. It's got Start button, Boss button, taskbar, workspaces, systray, launch buttons, and dockapps. Plus Alt-Tab and single-instance support. I figure that that is most of what is needed.
It runs fine so far in XLibre. I'm not going to port 30 years of work to a new framework [Wayland] that intentionally breaks things and that isn't going to support old software or hardware.

On #ArchLinux, you can now get both the “oldstable” #XLibre 25.0.x and the latest “beta” 25.2.x packages from our XLibre third-party repo.
Please see https://xlibre-arch.github.io for setup instructions. The old https://x11libre.net/repo/arch_based/x86_64 repo has been removed in favor of the new repos.

The deleted post of an #XLibre maintainer has been restored on the #ArtixLinux forum. Additionally, they packaged the Xserver 25.0.0.24 containing 8 CVE fixes that we released on June 6, 2026. For now we have https://github.com/xlibre-artix and will look into solutions for the future.
We have an indication that the availability of version 25.0.0.24 also fixes an issue with Intel cards on Artix as reported at https://github.com/xlibre-artix/xlibre-artix/issues/1.

Our response to allegations on the #ArtixLinux forum was deleted today, a few hours after posting it. It dealt with claims made by a former #XLibre team member, who calls himself "artist." You can find the deleted post in our X (Twitter) article https://x.com/XLibreDev/status/2080698945395732630

We regret that we had to part ways with one of our team members. Given his recent behavior, he may try to remove #XLibre from #ArtixLinux for "technical“ reasons. In any case, we have packages, a forum, and a bug tracker for you at https://xlibre-artix.github.io.

@cmccullough Can't say I have but their switch to #XLibre makes it a hard no for me.

Trying out NextSpace on Slackware -current with XLibre.
A modern implementation inspired by the classic NeXTSTEP desktop. It's interesting to see how its design and workflow still feel relevant decades later.
Definitely a fun project to explore.

On Jul 5, a #GarudaLinux user was seeking help related to #XLibre and Garuda packages on the Garuda forum. He's been told to remove XLibre and the thread has been locked.
We fixed the underlying dependency issue and assure you that you're welcome at https://github.com/xlibre-arch.

In April we promised https://x.com/XLibreDev/status/2047874562306765096 to create a place for #XLibre on #ArchLinux. With up-to-date binary packages and technical information. We've got it now: https://github.com/xlibre-arch. Please provide feedback if you run into any issues. We'll take care of them for sure.

The micro-struttering that plagues Stellaris is a much, much more contained under Xlibre.
The colors are also much better.
Still there is no way to rid it in this case, as far I know is Stellaris itself to strutter badly as way the game engine works.
Whatever you use Wayland or Xlibre, the best you can do is just minimize them. And space dinos. yay. 😛
I want to try if I can run it under Freebsd when I have time.

https://github.com/X11Libre/xserver/wiki/Are-We-XLibre-Yet%3F
