Recupero vecchio PC fatto, #netbook per l'esattezza. La ram è rimasta 1gb, ma adesso è stato messo un SSD. Volevo installare #puppylinux ma mi dava problemi ad avviare la live. Ho messo #antix e nessun problema. 90mb di RAM o giù di lì all'avvio e ci ritroviamo con un aggeggio funzionante. In futuro, sarà utilizzato per streaming di musica e/o server.

Comunque, vedere quell'aggeggio, in precedenza completamente inutile, funzionare con un'interfaccia grafica assolutamente utilizzabile è pazzesco. Giaceva inutilizzato e abbandonato da diversi anni. Bello.

I'm going to reiterate a point I made in someone else's thread - anyone who remembers windows 7 or 8 before they ended up on windows 10 has a far greater understanding that there is not only one UI design than someone who's only ever used Windows 10 / 11.

My mum is 75 and I just moved her onto Ubuntu. She is delighted. Her laptop is flying rather than taking forever to do anything, and she has her lace and cross stitch apps there under wine.

She excitedly tells her fellow rafters, stitches and lace makers. Of which she is a youngster.

I've been around since MSDOS 6.22.
The stumbling block for moving to Linux is largely the generation below me that didn't have the seismic shifts in UI, it makes coping with a new interface feel more of an imposition.

For work I use #Ubuntu with the #regolith desktop. At home I have use #debian, #antix and have recently discovered #omarchy so #ISortOfUseArch

He tenido que cambiar la pila del BIOS del miniordenador.

La batería está muerta desde hace tiempo, y ha arrastrado a la otra batería, que ya no aguantaba ni el reloj, ni la configuración de arranque.

Por ahora funciona enchufado a la corriente. Siguiente paso, hacer más liviano el arranque de #Antix y dejarlo por debajo de los 300MB, que no sobran los recursos.

Dziś przypada 81 rocznica rozpoczęcia powstania w gettcie warszawskim, początkowo dowodzonego przez Mordechaja Anielewicza, po którego śmierci 8-go maja 1943-go roku w bunkrze przy ulicy Miłej 18, komendantem został Marek Edelman, przedwojenny działacz socjalistycznej partii Bund, w której programie postulowano m.in. budowę autonomicznej społeczności Żydów w obrębie zreformowanego w duchu socjalistycznym państwa polskiego

Na zakończenie dodam, iż dziś zbierałam szczękę z podłogi, gdyż przygotowując się „na przeplotkę” do sporządzenia tego wpisu i zainstalowania dystrybucji Linuxa antiX, na stronie Wikipedii o nim znalazłam informację, że patronem wersji 8.5 wydanej 12.4.2010 był nie kto inny, jak... Marek Edelman.

So I realised there's a lot that's incompatible with a 32-bit OS. So I dug around and found out the CPU in the HP MINI 210-1100 is actually 64-bit! So I cloned the Windows recovery and hptools partitions, reformatted (the possibly failing HDD), and reinstalled the 64-bit version of #antixlinux base version with three clean partitions—home, root and swap. Just waiting for sudo apt update and upgrade now... Then I can try installing #YunoHost or #sandstormio

Dug out my "worse piece of tech", the HP Mini 210-1100 netbook (1GB ddr3, Intel Atom, 1.66 GHz, 250GB HDD). It was a gift–I remember using it and the dreaded lag/frustration with Windows 7 Starter kinda drove me insane. Haven't used it since 2010. Until today that is!
