Currently watching this video from #FrOSCon which covers "Right To Repair" topics for software to help people keep running on systems that most people have stopped using. A relatively unusual approach particularly the "un-deprecating" of Windows XP by moving to the MinGW compiler and sticking only to C++11 features

Developers of the #SparkyLinux #Linux distribution announced the release of SparkyLinux 8.4 this week. It includes several package upgrades and heralds the return of #32bit architecture support for older computers.

🔹 Baza Slackware: Urmărește ramura de dezvoltare „Slackware Current”, oferind pachete mult mai noi decât versiunea stabilă tradițională, păstrând în același timp compatibilitatea completă cu sursele oficiale.
🔹 Suport 32-bit și 64-bit: Ediția pe 64 de biți vine echipată cu Linux kernel 6.18, în timp ce versiunea pe 32 de biți folosește kernelul 6.12 pentru a asigura o compatibilitate maximă cu procesoarele x86 mai vechi.
🔹 Interfață și pachete: Folosește desktop-ul MATE, o interfață tradițională și foarte bine optimizată pentru resurse puține. Administrarea aplicațiilor se face simplu prin instrumentele slapt-get și gslapt (împrumutate de la Salix).
🔹 Moduri de instalare flexibile: Utilizatorii pot alege între modul Full (sistem complet cu toate aplicațiile de zi cu zi), Basic (sistem grafic minimal cu browser și utilitare de bază) și Core (doar linie de comandă).
🔹 Software la zi: Vine la pachet cu aplicații actualizate precum LibreOffice 26.2.4, Firefox 152, GIMP 3.2.4 și MPV 0.41.

Sistemul rulează excelent și direct dintr-un stick USB (mod Live) cu suport pentru persistență, permițându-ți să salvezi modificările fără a fi nevoie să instalezi nimic pe hard disk.

I got the world's cutest little computer over the weekend thanks to @murble! It's a #Vortex86 of some kind, equivalent to a fast #486, and is genuinely #32bit so I shall no longer have to rely on emulation or running 32-bit kernels and libraries on 64-bit hardware for 32-bit testing! Gonna put #NetBSD on there.

But first, because it has no serial port and the only video output is VGA, I need to find a VGA monitor.

No #BananaForScale because I don't like bananas. Have an aniseed twist instead.
