  1. Losing some weight

I've been struggling with my weight for many years. It goes up, and up some more... I get tired of looking like I do, and feeling like I do, and I try to find ways to work towards losing the weight again. Sometimes, I'm successful, and after hard work, and loads of efforts, I manage to get my weight back to a healthier number. I do my best to keep it there, until something happens, or several things happen, and I lose the ability to keep the weight down... I will "do my best", but it won't be enough. I need to find a way to make some changes, to get back on track to what worked before. To find a way to be able to lose weight again. I'll try to change my routine in the gym. I'll try to watch my food better, to buy less unhealthy stuff... And it takes time... But, if I'm lucky, after a while, I may start to lose some weight again. Sometimes I am very fortunate, and it has a quick and efficient effect. Sometimes, it takes me way too long, and I start to think that maybe this time, I just can't make the change anymlre. I've been on that point for a while now, but... 🍀 […]

  6. Journal – Week 19, May 2026

On Monday, mum came to me, so she could sit in the back of Skoosh with Koa, to head back to Nijmegen for the hairdresser. When we got back in Herpen, she helped me with adding some root fabric to the little patch in the garden, so that Koa could not dig there anymore. I didn't have physio this week, as I needed to give my shoulder some rest. So Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, we're days where Koa and I tried to relax as much as we could. Friday we had a vet visit with the little dude. Saturday our friends Timmy and Vonnie were coming for my bday 🥳. It's not till Monday, but they weren't able to come then. 😊 On Sunday, Yolande came for my bday as well... So we had some relaxing, and some busier days this week. 🐾❤️ This is a screenshot of a 14-day weather forecast from the "Weer & Radar" app, specifically for the location "Herpen," starting on Monday, May 4th, 2026. The image features a line graph against a white background that plots both the maximum and minimum temperatures in degrees Celsius over two weeks. Red dots and numbers indicate the maximum temperature, while blue dots and numbers show the minimum. The weekend days (Saturday and Sunday) are highlighted with a light grey-blue vertical background. Below the graph, there is a row of indicator boxes for each day showing the expected sunshine and rain. A yellow box means a lot of sun ("veel"), and a grey box means little sun ("weinig"). Days with rain are marked with a blue teardrop icon inside their respective boxes. Here is the day-by-day breakdown of the forecast: Week 1: * Monday (May 4): Max 20°C, Min 11°C. Sun with some rain. * Tuesday: Max 12°C, Min 12°C. Little sun and rain. * Wednesday: Max 10°C, Min 9°C. Sun with some rain. * Thursday: Max 15°C, Min 4°C. Lots of sun and dry. * Friday: Max 18°C, Min 5°C. Lots of sun and dry. * Saturday: Max 20°C, Min 9°C. Sun with some rain. * Sunday: Max 22°C, Min 11°C. Sun with some rain. Week 2: * Monday: Max 20°C, Min 13°C. Little sun and dry. * Tuesday: Max 18°C, Min 11°C. Little sun and dry. * Wednesday: Max 17°C, Min 8°C. Little sun and dry. * Thursday: Max 16°C, Min 8°C. Little sun and dry. * Friday: Max 16°C, Min 7°C. Sun and dry. * Saturday: Max 16°C, Min 9°C. Sun with some rain. * Sunday: Max 16°C, Min 7°C. Sun with some rain. At the very bottom, there is a dark teal footer with the "weer & radar" logo. Below the logo, text reads "beschikbaar voor" (available for) followed by icons for Android, Apple, and the web. The bottom line reads "Stand: 04-05-2026," indicating the date the forecast was updated. Quick links to the days of the week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. […]

  11. I’m trying to find a reason to keep my head up when so many doors have been slammed closed in my face. At least, for once, I am not to blame. I am in the same situation as many others. But this does not make things any easier.

I currently work as a security guard but it pays a pittance, a whole 2.00 an hour above my state’s minimum wage in a MCOL area. My state’s minimum is 15 and I make 17. I had an interview for a security guard position that pays 20 but nothing became of it.

I need to think creatively. But it’s hard to think outside the box when battling both #physicalhealth and #mentalhealth issues. As a result of these issues, I’ve lost 30 pounds but I walk with a cane now and I stumble and get dizzy spells. My blood pressure trends low and I have a low resting heart rate but no sign of heart attack or heart arrhythmia.

I don’t know what the next step is. I know my PCP wants me to see a neurologist but I am unable to afford the copay. I also need to see a cardiologist but the same issues of affordability present.

  15. Sore and exhausted 😮‍💨

...but also very grateful 🥹 When this post goes live, it's been two weeks since Koa came to live with me. 🥰 As I start writing this post, it's been 8 days now... And, I'm loving it! There are many mixed emotions cruising through me. Gratefulness and love. But also a bit of grief and loss. And then, there's my physical health that's been killing me, as it's been painful since April 16th, and instead of getting less painful, it's still going strong (as I write this on the 30th). It's so bad, that I'm breaking my own rules when it comes to taking my painkillers. But for several days now, I've been in bed for over two hours, while Koa is snoozing peacefully, so I should be doing the same. But I just can't get comfortable enough, and my brain keeps being turned on (one of the reasons I started writing this post, while I should be snoozing), due to the body being too sore to properly relax... 😢 […]

  19. Journal – Week 18, April/May 2026

The first full week with Koa in my life... 🥰 Monday was a relaxing day, where we had no plans, after the busy weekend. Tuesday was a bit more exciting, as Nicole was coming to doggy sit, so that I coul visit the physio. Unfortunately, after that visit, my shoulder and chest muscles got a lot worse again... 😢 On Wednesday, Yolande and her son came to visit Koa (and me), so I could finally take some snaps of Koa and Yolande, and so that we could chat a bit more. Thursday morning was relaxed, and in the afternoon, mum and I took Koa to a store, which was very exciting for him. On Friday, mum came to doggy sit for me, so I could go to a few stores, and then visit the physio again. Koa slept a lot, so doggy-sitting wasn't too hard on her. The weekend, we had no plans, so we took it easy. And, Koa experienced his first thunderstorm (and he didn't like it at all). The first full week with my little dude went rather well. I am tired and sore, but I love that little dude so much already... (I just can't wait for him to start sleeping longer during the night, and to stop biting things he should not be biting in... 😇 But he's a puppy, so it all goes with the territory... Not complaining here, just some little wishes... 😉). This image is a 14-day weather forecast for Herpen, dated April 27, 2026, from the "weer & radar" app.The forecast is presented as a line graph tracking daily high and low temperatures over two weeks. 23. A 2-Minute Reset For Overwhelm

I frequently discuss the mental and physical toll that our current way of life takes on us. Our bodies and minds do not down-regulate; we are trapped in an evolutionary cycle, unable to keep pace with the rapid speed of modern life. The relentless pace of technological advancement and constant connectivity heightens this burden, creating an unending barrage of information and demands for our attention. There is too much stimulation and too much instant gratification, which leads to an overwhelming psychological toll; it feels as if we are constantly being pulled in multiple directions.

    Finding Anchors

But how do we break this cycle? We need to cultivate patience, which is perhaps the biggest challenge of all. In a world that prioritizes instant gratification, our patience has diminished, and seeking immediate relief has become our primary goal. However, we must learn to embrace slowness and steadiness, relying on the anchors of our existence. These anchors are your breath and your heartbeat—constants that are unchanging and unwavering, with you at all times.

    Resilience

By developing practices of calmness and mindfulness, we empower ourselves to tap into these anchors. This enables us to rise above the chaos during stressful moments, restoring our sense of grounded empathy and fostering deeper connections with ourselves and others. Embracing this journey is essential; not only does it enhance our resilience, but it also deepens our understanding of what it truly means to live a fulfilled life in harmony with our natural rhythms.

Remember to start small and be gentle with yourself. Take a moment to connect with your breath and feel your heartbeat. As you learn to recognize your patterns, you can discover simple practices that help you return to your true self. Try this new, quick grounding reset during stressful moments; it can be a comforting anchor in the chaos.

This brief, two-minute practice helps your body shift out of tension and into ease with slow breathing and simple cues to soften the body. You’ll gently down-regulate your nervous system without effort. It’s a quick grounding reset for moments of stress, overwhelm, or emotional heaviness-a small pause that helps you return to yourself.

    Namaste.

  28. The reason I wanted to track symptoms is that I've had a couple of shitty days at the beginning of this week.

I had a super light bout of brain fuzz or maybe even vertigo. Not sure. (Yes, I've had the typo of vertigo that causes the entire room to spin. It wasn't that.)

This was accompanied by what I'd call a depressive episode.

    I'm feeling fine now.

What caused it? Fuck me if I know.

What got me out of it? Fuck me if I know.

The vertigo visits me from time to time. I don't think it is worsening, but I don't have good enough memory to know. Hence, the symptom tracker.

  32. Journal – Week 17 🐾, April 2026

What a week!!! The last countdown, the final preparations, until Koa came to his new home on Wednesday! On Monday, I tried to clean up some more, make sure things were being more secure, so Koa would not be able to damage anything, or himself, in an unexpected moment. On Tuesday, my PT worked very hard to try and loosen up my very sore shoulder and breast muscles. And then... The countdown ended, and it was Koa day! A very busy day, with a lot of good things. But, at the end of the afternoon, both Koa and I were exbausted. So we grabbed many little naps when we could. Thursday, was our first real day together. Loads of new impressions. We did our best to make it a good day. My body was sore, and I was tired as heck, but I was so happy wity Koa... 🥰 Thursday was a great day, very exhausting, very challenging at times, but to see this little bundle of love in my home... In our home... We tried to get into a routine a bit, I did my best to learn more about him, and it ended with another night on the old couch. Friday, we learned some more... He was doing a great job, while I was worrying a lot if I was doing the job right... In the evening, mum was able to pick up a smaller crate at Joke's place, which meant: sleeping in my bed! Koa wasn't too amused with the changes, but in the end, we did manage to get some hours of sleep in. Saturday, we got our first visitors, and I don't know who loved it more... Koa or Timmy... 🥰 Yolande came for a short visit on Sunday. And that's how we ended week 17... Tired, a bit insecure at times, but so full of love for my little dude. ❤️ Alt Text:A 14-day weather forecast graph for Herpen, dated April 20, 2026, generated by the "weer & radar" app.The image features a teal header with the location and date. 34.

36. Journal – Week 16, April 2026

Another week, slowly getting closer to the day where Koa will come home! 🥰 Monday was a quiet day. A quick visit to the store, and I tried to mop the floors, which felt like running a marathon! 🫣 Tuesday, I headed to a store I had never heard of before, to pick up a free puppy package, and of course I got some toys there for Koa, before I headed to physio. My PT made an echo of my hip area, to check out what's causing the issues I'm still experiencing. On Wednesday, I tried to take it easy. But I did manage some preparations for the upcoming garden work on Friday. Thursday was business as usual, with me taking my mum to Germany for groceries and such. Friday was a very busy day! Eva and I worked hard in the back garden, even though my left shoulder was doing all it could to make the work more painful than it should have been. And of course, we ended the day with puppies! So that's an amazing way to end a hard-worked day. I tried to take it easy on Saturday, as everything hurt. And on top of that, my GP had decided to lower my painkiller dosage by a lot, without discussing it. So that really angered me, as we already got it down so much, but the bits I still use, I really need to get through the days. Especially now my hand is more painful... 😞 On Sunday I tried to prepare the house some more for the coming of the fluffy piranha... 😂 Bit by bit, trying to secure as much as I can... ❤️ Forecast OverviewThe weather starts mild with a gradual warming trend during the first week, followed by stable, pleasant temperatures in the second week.Temperature TrendsWeek 1 (Monday, April 13 – Sunday, April 19): Daytime highs start at 14°C and rise steadily to 18°C by Wednesday, remaining steady at 18°C through Saturday before a slight dip to 17°C on Sunday.
