  1. I nearly made a horrible mistake while #baking #cookies. I’m a bit surprised I went as far as I did since I know #nutmeg isn’t white.

  2. [Doodle] - Shniff Shnoff
I have never known a cat so food-obsessed or so interested in smelling things. If Nutmeg picks up even a hint of food on your breath (especially if it featured pork or, for some reason, fruit) she will straight up stuff her nose into your mouth trying to sniff at it.

  3. They tried to put her on the cover of Vogue, but her leg was tooooo long.

  4. I know this is not really a Mastodon topic but would anyone recommend an "investment platform" that only invests in ecologically-friendly / ethical companies?

For example #Nutmeg (now part of JP Morgan) has a "socially-responsible investing" pot but it funds companies like Microsoft, Apple and Tesla 🙃

  5. Anyone else got a #Nutmeg account which has morphed, like an unmasking, into a JP Morgan product - now asking for photo id for reasons 🤢

  6. The scientific name for the nutmeg tree is Myristica fragrans. The tree is native to the spice islands of Indonesia.

  9. Do you know where nutmeg comes from? It comes from the tropical tree myristica fragrans, native to the malucca islands of Indonesia.

Pic 1: unripe fruit hanging on the nutmeg tree
    Pic 2: closeup of leaves
Pic 3: when the fruit is ripe and ready for harvest, it cracks open
Pic 4: inside the fruit. The red part is mace, and nutmeg is the spice that gets shaved off the brown pit under the mace.

As far as I know, the fruit isn't used, but if you know of a use for it, lmk 😊

  10. Nut!

    Meg...

#Nutmeg. It's got #history about #colonization , attempted #genocide and the #English actually doing something good for once, but only because it screwed over the #Portugese empire.. because monopoly bad.

For your viewing pleasure I've found a mild mannered #NewYorker (no, rly) who uses 00:01:46 minutes to talk about the history of the spice known as nut... meg... and the region of Asia it comes from.

  11. Nutmeg, grown on the island of Grenada, is used to make eggnog, and so the US had to invade Grenada in 1983 because the Soviets were trying to eradicate Christmas.

  12. Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) is probably the only plant whose fruits yield two different spices.
When the fruit is ripe it naturally splits to two. The brownish seed is the source of the spice termed as Nutmeg, while the crimson -colored lacy membrane (aril) is another spice known as mace.
Both nutmeg and mace are versatile spices that add distinct flavour and aroma for a wide range of food products.
The evergreen tree is widely cultivated in Kerala.
