Tobala & tonic!
Ah so utterly refreshing and idk comforting in a way
I try and limit #mezcal #cocktails and this is a single varietal too - but for whatever reason tobala (and nothing else I've tried) works with tonic - cuts through the sweetness with an earthy flourish!

And the president’s latest threat, issued on Monday, to hit #Canada with tariffs of 50 per cent on a wide range of #goods raises the stakes and shows how important it is for Canada to hold the line.
The first lesson is that retaliation works.Where #China, for instance, has spent years carefully building geopolitical leverage through control of critical supply chains, Canada’s booze #boycott has been powered mostly by consumer choice and the decision of the provincially owned liquor companies of #Ontario and #Quebec not to buy US alcohol. And it turns out that rum and rosé can pack almost as much of a trade war punch as rare earths. US alcohol exports to Canada fell 70 per cent from 2024 to 2025, a $536mn loss for the US industry.”
There are others, however the Ban on *finished goods* and not *partial products* is hitting USA in #trade. ☺️.

Opening up some of my #Mexico bottle haul!
Picked up the Nixta and it has terrific long flavor - but rather sweet up front (I can see why old fashioneds with it in lieu of sugar would be great).Tried the Palabra Caliente* #cocktail (skipped the 🍒) also with the Ancho liqueuer. Hmm this is good but less corn forward (and too much ancho but not as spicy) as I thought it would be. Used the last of my Vega elote #mezcal (Espadin) for it.

Picked up some bottles to take back home to Pittsburgh - things I'd not get there. Mezcal, Raicilla and some others. Really enjoyed the conversation at El Liquor Store and the samlings/tastings as I considered what to buy (bottle/glass weight was a factor for bottle 4 and 5...) Many props to the guy there who gave me a roll of bubble wrap too when he rang me up.

Happy national #cocktail day!
This is turning out to be in my top 3 easily, even more so as I have it prebatched. Just need to stir well with ice to dilute a bit, splash of bitters, then pour into the cold glass.
Cacao nib infused* #mezcal negroni
(with campari and Carpano antica vermouth; 1 part each)*1:1 Mix of 8 hr (overnight) infused at cool ambient room temp and 90 min infused at 65 ⁰C; 10% cacao nibs by weight per volume of mezcal (Espadin)
