  2. sankeys, instant progress dashboards based on disparate data sources that update themselves -- the visual display of information I've always designed, spent days fighting excel or another analytics package to create, and ultimately failing at ... now they're a 15 minute job in Claude Code (plus a 30 minute audit to make sure the analysis is done accurately).

  5. A small but meaningful update to Vienna’s rapid transit network: today the new U2 station “Lina-Loos-Platz” officially opened.

To mark the occasion, I’ve updated my geographical Vienna U-Bahn map, inspired by the classic Paris Metro map designs. The new version includes the added station, refined labeling and network logic, and lines under construction as well as future lines.

  10. Exploratory data analysis is usually where the first real insight appears, and I’ve been looking for ways to make that moment clearer and more immediate.

One experiment I’m trying is a hover-based UI: move your cursor over a column and a compact histogram appears. It gives you an instant feel for the distribution without interrupting your flow.

  15. i know everyone is trying their best, but this diagram really feels like a crime against information design.

    1) very difficult to follow visually
    2) white text with black stroke - very difficult to read
    3) mystery numbers in white
    4) mystery percentages in red
    5) overall visual impression is of overwhelming complexity

  16. How do you record and develop ideas over long periods of time? We are exploring this question through the design of Kitab.cc
    { Kitab means book in Arabic / Farsi }

  17. Here is a network of ideas used to introduce the idea of networks! 🔄
Conducted a talk introducing students of Design at CEPT, Ahmedabad to Kitab.cc and the work of visualising complexity (Manuel Lima).

Kitab.cc is a Visual Thinking Tool. Using it feels like journaling while mind-mapping. It supports note taking while also allowing you to build such maps using your notes.

  18. The app that supports my mobile hotspot says I've used a terrabyte of data.

    The graphic design is appealing.

The information design is poor. Without a duration, the number is relatively uninformative—no rate, only a total.

The content design is questionable. For people who read left-to-right, top-to-bottom, the text actually says "1.02 USED TB" rather than "1.02 TB used".

  19. Has anyone made a book or project documenting ad hoc signage adding to or supplanting designed signage in settings like hospitals and libraries?

Could it be possible to accommodate for this need / desire by design?

I think it is a complex phenomenon! Partly a real problem with the signs pictured is that they are hard to update. Part of it must be reacting to wayfinding issues. Some of it seems superfluous, maybe people just want to make a mark.

  20. Hello Mastodon. I have a problem. The course I’m studying which is information design and front end development has a semester beginning in end of march that involves a work placement for a month. I’m looking to find somewhere to do my practical. Is anyone in the #uxdesign #ux #informationdesign spheres could help a girl out? It’s four weeks, full time, doesn’t need to be a project, can just be busy body work.

    Mastodon! Save me!
