1968 U.S. pressingA little acid-ridden #psychedelic #progressive #artrock to get my morning going.
The band’s ONLY album; not overly intricate, but pretty melodic sounding and introspective.
I found this at a flea market in Seattle, Wa. when I took my son there for a concert. I grabbed it because I had never heard of them before and looked pretty interesting.
I didn’t realize it was kind of sought after.“Lacewing” is the true gem here. Just a great tune. A beautiful little Beatles-esque #acidfolk number.
Odd thing about this band:
They don’t sound like they’re from NYC.
They sound a lot like the British bands of the time, and their singer James “Spider” Barborous actually slips in and out of an English accent occasionally.Apparently there’s a promo MONO copy that sounds infinitely better, as this one’s a little thin on bass.
Great record, regardless.#vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #vinylcollection #retro #vintage #art #music

Really don't know a lot about the genre but I discovered this 1971 album a couple of days ago and have been playing it non stop - it's a real gem full of chilled out tunes. Probably just folk when it came out but I see it categorised as acid-folk/psych-folk now #folk #acidfolk #psychfolk

New #review today: "#CarolOfHarvest was a band that played what might be called #AcidFolk. Their only LP came out in ‘78 on a local label with only 200 copies. Much of what one hears on the album could easily pass for a sound produced a decade earlier, with acoustic guitars and harmonized male and female vocals dominant, but with drums, electric guitar, keyboards, and a bassist in the band, they are able to show their capacity to rock with the best of them." #FolkRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/carol-of-harvest-carol-of-harvest-3.html

CW: Tamsin's pinned post on anarres.family, my new home instance.
Hello, anarres.family, all other servers, and all ships at sea!
Welcome to Tamsin's Pinned Post, which includes a few things you might want to know about me.
Yes, this is a new instance, which I intend to be my new home on the fediverse... but it's the same old nonsense.
Please enjoy your stay, unless you're a fascist, a racist, a transphobe, a homophobe, or any other flavor of garbage person, in which case please fix your heart or die. Your choice.
So, who the heck am I?
Hi! I'm Tamsin: a white #GenX #queer #sapphic #nonbinary #trans #woman who likes doorstopper novels, director's cuts of movies, extended remixes of songs and albums, tabletop roleplaying games, 5-string basses, double-cutaway Les Paul Jr. guitars, beaches, forests, mountains, witchy things, late nights, lazy afternoons, writing down half of everything she thinks, and living places that haven't outlawed her.
I'm happily monogamously married to a polymath superhero, and we share our lives with my marvelous teenaged offspring, two adorable cats, and a host of delightful friends and co-conspirators.
Things I post about, in no particular order: #gender, #sexuality, #queerness, #QueerTheory, #transgender stuff, #transfeminine stuff, #magic, #witchcraft, #music, #books, #movies, #TTRPGs, #ADHD, #politics, #philosophy, #spirituality, making things, and whatever else is going though my brain at any given moment. When I talk about gender and sexuality, it's probably helpful to know that I hold a bachelor's degree in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (with a focus on #feminist history, queer theory, and trans studies) from the University of Washington. This doesn't make me "right" or "authoritative," but it does mean I've done some reading on the topics. Sometimes I joke that I had to get a degree to realize I'm a gay trans girl... which isn't quite true, but still makes me laugh.
I'm exactly the kind of person who likes #ProgRock, #PunkRock, #PostPunk, #TripHop, #GirlyPop, #DarkFolk, #BlackMetal, '70s #funk, old-school #RnB, #BritishInvasion, #ArtRock, #AcidRock, #AcidFolk, anti-fascist #NeoFolk, #SingerSongwriter, #blues, #EarlyMusic, #minimalist composers, anime soundtracks, and everything #Prince ever recorded. Among other things.
Sometimes I make things. I craft, I cook, I play (and occasionally run) tabletop role-playing games, I play (and occasionally write) music and songs. Most of all, though, I write: essays, poetry, stories, and—this one time at band camp, when I was feeling particularly sassy—a whole-ass book about gender, sexuality, queerness, and magic for witches, Pagans, occultists, and devotional polytheists. (If you want to check it out, there's a link in my bio to the publisher's page.)
Politically, I started out as a liberal in the 1980s, but—flying in the face of conventional wisdom—became increasingly leftist as time went by. I believe all life is sacred, hegemony and hierarchy are intrinsically inclined towards abuse, and bodily autonomy is fundamental to human rights. I believe people can own and control things, but that people are not things. As such, I believe fascism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, queerphobia, and ableism are all evils of the human heart. I support #UniversalHealthcare, #UBI, BLM, #antifa, indigenous rights, #TransRights, queer resistance, sex workers, undocumented and migrant rights, disability rights, autistic people, plural folks, defunding the police, and radical inclusivity. Whatever name fits those beliefs, that's what I am. I'm not a wholly uncritical leftist, though, and I'm probably not ideologically pure enough for most movements. (Then again, I'm a futch-y trans #lesbian, so many leftist movements don't want me around anyway.)
About following: I'm trying to be intentional and judicious in how I use social media, so here's the deal: folks are welcome to follow my account here, but I don't automatically follow people back. That's not a judgement on you, please understand. It's an acknowledgement that I have a limited amount of mental and social bandwidth, and it's easy for me to get overwhelmed by my social media feed if I don't tend it aggressively.
The odds of me following you back are significantly higher if...
• you have a bio I find interesting,
• you're somewhere under the rainbow (LGBTQIA2S+),
• we share interests in common,
AND/OR
• you interact with my posts in a positive way often enough that I think, "hey, I like so-and-so, I think I'll send them a follow request."The last condition might override any of the previous three, but the previous three do sway things, just saying. Regardless, anyone's welcome to follow my posts here.
Okay, I think that's about enough for now. Further updates as events warrant, or as I think of them.
Cheers! 💕

Gratien Midonet – Fô Ou Tchimbi – Decision (1989, Martinique)
As randomly chosen by survey[1] on Mastodon, our next spotlight is on number 718 on The List, submitted by myself (buffyleigh).
At the beginning of this project, after we had amassed a few hundred album titles for The List and started to see where there were gaps, a few of us went searching around for gems that we maybe weren’t all that familiar with, but knew had to be included. This was one such artist I stumbled on, our only artist representing the Caribbean island of Martinique (in the French West Indies/Antilles).
I had a hard time deciding which of Midonet’s four albums to include, and still think maybe I should have picked his first, Ven en Lévé (1979). The title track of that one seems to have been an anthem of sorts for Martinique’s independence movement, and was apparently banned from French radio for 2 years. But then the second and third albums – L’Inité (1980) and Bourg La Folie (1984; a soundtrack to a since lost film by Antillean director Benjamin Jules Rosette) – as well as this one are all excellent, all highlight Midonet’s Creole lyricism, and all have their particular charms. And so, I simply went with the one that I thought would perhaps entice people to go back and check out the rest of the discography.
Anyway, if descriptions like “tropical acid folk”, “cosmic reggae jazz”, “transcendental fusion”, and “psychedelic dance” pique your interest, I would suggest you take a listen through them all. A compilation is also available, for a quick survey. Whichever you choose, it’s a good decision.
Happy listening.
- Bandcamp: Gratien Midonet – Fô Ou Tchimbi – Decision
- Discogs: Gratien Midonet – Fô Ou Tchimbi – Decision
- The survey choices that initially led to this spotlight were “He flows like the big muddy, but that’s okay”, “Pour him over ice cream”, and “for a nice parfait”, following the earlier surveys that had “Well, I don’t want no Abba Zabba”/“Don’t want no Almond Joy”/“There ain’t nothing better”/“Suitable for this boy”, “Well, it’s the only thing that can pick me up”/“Better than a cup of gold”/“See only a chocolate Jesus”/“Can satisfy my soul”, and “When the weather gets rough”/“And it’s whiskey in the shade”/“It’s best to wrap your savior”/“Up in cellophane”. The second option was the winning selection, and the survey result was translated as picking an album in The List that contained a word in the phrase – in this case, “him”, hidden in the word “Tchimbi”. ↩︎

CW: Hello, transfem.social, all other instances, and all ships at sea! Once again, it's a new instance, but it's the same old nonsense. 😉 Welcome to Tamsin's Pinned Toot(s). Please enjoy your stay, unless you're a fascist, a racist, a transphobe, a homophobe, or any other flavor of garbage person, in which case please step on a LEGO forever. What follows are a few things you might want to know about me if you plan to hang around.
So, who the heck am I?
Hi! I'm Tamsin: a white, middle-aged, Gen X #queer, #sapphic, #nonbinary #trans woman who likes doorstopper novels, director's cuts of movies, extended remixes of songs and albums, all kinds of table-top roleplaying games, 5-string basses, double-cutaway Les Paul Jr. guitars, beaches, forests, mountains, witchy things, living places that haven't outlawed her yet, late nights, lazy afternoons, and writing down half of everything she thinks.
I'm happily monogamously married to a polymath superhero, and we share our lives with my marvelous teenaged offspring, two adorable cats, and a host of delightful friends and co-conspirators.
Things I post about, in no particular order: #queer stuff, being a #trans girl, #magic, #music, #books, #movies, #TTRPGs, #ADHD, #politics, #philosophy, #spirituality, making stuff, and whatever else is going though my brain at any given moment.
When I talk about #gender and #sexuality, it's probably helpful to know that I have a bachelor's degree in Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies (with a focus on #feminist history, queer theory, and trans studies) from the University of Washington. Sometimes I joke that I had to get a degree to realize I'm a gay trans girl, which isn't quite true, but still makes me laugh.
I'm exactly the kind of person who likes #ProgRock, #PunkRock, #PostPunk, #TripHop, house, #DarkFolk, #BlackMetal, '70s #funk, old-school R&B, early rock'n'roll, #AcidRock, #AcidFolk, #blues, #EarlyMusic, #minimalist composers, anime soundtracks, and everything #Prince ever recorded.
I have a profound fear of spiders, heights, and isolation.
Sometimes I make things. I craft, I cook, I play (and occasionally run) role-playing games, I play (and occasionally write) music and songs. Most of all, though, I write: essays, poetry, stories, and—this one time, when I was feeling particularly sassy—a whole-ass book about gender, sexuality, queerness, and magic for witches, Pagans, and occultists. (If you want to check it out, here's the publisher's page: https://llewellyn.com/product.php?ean=9780738761329)
My politics are a simple story: I started out as a liberal in the 1980s and, flying in the face of conventional wisdom, became increasingly leftist as time went by. I support universal healthcare, universal basic income, BLM, antifa, indigenous rights, trans rights, queer resistance, sex workers, undocumented and migrant rights, disability rights, autistic people, plural folks, defunding the police, and radical inclusivity. I'm not an uncritical leftist, though, and I'm probably not ideologically pure enough for most movements. (Then again, I'm a gay trans girl, so most leftist movements don't want me around anyway.)
