New #review today: "For those unfamiliar with #JohnHoward, the British #SingerSongwriter first emerged in the mid-70s with the now highly regarded Kid in a Big World. Although commercial success eluded him at the time, his work has enjoyed a remarkable revival in recent decades, leading to a steady stream of new recordings and reissues. His latest release, Overnight Bags, is a deeply personal collection of eleven songs." #ExposeOnline #ThinkLikeAKeyRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/john-howard-overnight-bags-6.html

New #review today: "#EllingUlvestad is a songwriter from the Planet Earth who leads a band called #Molo. Several years ago, I wrote about the album Earthsongs, and now we have the band’s second album, This Is Earth. The primary feature of the new album is that the quality of the songwriting remains at the same high level — these are just good songs presented with relatively few extraneous frills." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #SingerSongwriter http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/molo-this-is-earth-2.html

#ThrowbackThursday review from 1995: "A Dutch quartet of guitar, bass, drums and woodwinds, this is #Blast's second release (the first being the hopelessly obscure Puristsirup from 1993), and the first for #CuneiformRecords. While their music is ostensibly rock based, they seem to pull more than their share of influence from the more recent proponents of #ChamberRock' the early abstractions of #HenryCow..." #ExposeOnline #AvantProgressive http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/blast-wire-stitched-ears-3.html

New #review today: "#Chafouin (translation: Sly) is a French experimental noise-pop-rock trio (though sometimes a duo and sometimes a quartet), but when the band leader #lAustral decided to expand to an octet, he rechristened the band #ChafouinOrchestra, and this is their self-titled debut. Any listener who dares is in for some kind of wild ride!" #ExposeOnline #AvantProgressive #minimalism http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/chafouin-orchestra-chafouin-orchestra-3.html

New #review today: "In the early 70s, #MarianneSegal emerged as the principal songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist for #Jade, one of the more cherished cult names of the British #ProgressiveFolk movement. The Gathering, originally released in 2007, found Segal surrounded by an unlikely but inspired cast that included members of the neo-medieval psych-folk ensemble #Circulus." #ExposeOnline #PsychedelicRock #PsychedelicFolk #SilverJade http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/marianne-segal-featuring-circulus-the-gathering-6.html

New #review today: "Like most music lovers, I first heard about Group Chat because of the involvement of drummer #BillBruford, which is perfectly natural, since he’s the most well-known of the musicians involved. But the name above the title is #PeteRothTrio, with #MikePratt and Bill Bruford listed underneath. #PeteRoth is a guitarist who was born in Germany but has been based in England for some time. Together they form a tight and innovative guitar trio that treats genres more as tools than rules..." #ExposeOnline #jazz http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/pete-roth-trio-group-chat-2.html

New #review today: "I became aware of #EdMacan around 1997, an educator from California’s north coast College of the Redwoods, who’d written a scholarly tome titled Rocking the Classics – English #ProgressiveRock and the Counterculture. Around the same time, his band #HermeticScience released their debut album, a band like no other, featuring Macan on mallet percussion (mostly vibraphone and marimba) and piano, and two students from his music program on bass and drums, forming a trio. At the time there was nothing else quite like them — all of the music was written by Macan, though the influence of his progressive rock interests were always evident." #ExposeOnline JazzFusion #JazzRock #jazz http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/hermetic-science-ed-macans-hermetic-science-30th-anniversary-edition-3.html

New #review today: "The new #Pinhdar album, Comfort in the Silence, the third #FruitsDeMerRecords release by the Italian duo, finds Cecilia and Max refining the distinctive sound they have been developing over the past several years. Their blend of #TripHop, #DreamPop, #DarkWave, #NewWave, and electronica feels more assured and cohesive than ever, with rich atmospheric textures providing the foundation for Cecilia's crystal-clear, emotionally resonant vocals." #ExposeOnline #ElectronicMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/pinhdar-comfort-in-the-silence-6.html

New #review today: "Back on their 2012 album A Little Bit of Big Bonanza, #BushmansRevenge covered #SonnySharrock’s “As We Used to Sing,” and that gives us a good idea where they get their idea of jazz from. On Ah, les Vaches! they carry on in the same basic vein they’ve been mining for as long as I’ve been aware of them. At one end of the spectrum, they play loose, noisy #jazz in Sharrock’s idiom, and at the other, they drift off into effects-laden atmospheric haze." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz #KarismaRecords #IsItJazzRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/bushmans-revenge-ah-les-vaches-2.html

New #review today: "For over three decades and nearly a dozen albums, Swedish composer and multi-instrumentalist #SimonSteensland has been an irregular and unpredictable entity on the progressive music scene, his music embracing elements of symphonic, rock, folk, #AvantGarde minimalist, maximalist, and everything in between; some may call it #AvantProgressive although I believe it’s closer to classical music executed on mostly electric instruments." #ExposeOnline #áMARXE #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/simon-steensland-explosion-of-bad-music-3.html

#ThrowbackThursday #review from 2003: "Not to be confused with an identically named Polish act, this #Amarok is a seven-member band from Catalonia in northeastern Spain. On Mujer Luna, their fifth CD, they mix world and ethnic influences with #SymphonicRock to create one of the most exciting albums I’ve heard in some time." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/amarok-mujer-luna-3.html

New #review today: "Earthman is the first #FruitsDeMerRecords vinyl release by #ManAndMachine, the project of Scottish singer, guitarist, and songwriter #TomRoche. Familiar #PsychedelicRock and #ProgressiveRock reference points appear throughout, but they are arranged at improbable angles..." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/man-machine-earthman-6.html

New #review today: "On their previous album, #AtsukoChiba augmented their sound with strings, brass, and woodwinds, but for their latest they go it on their own. This self-titled release is their fourth full-length album, and it features six tracks of moderate length. While the music exhibits a wide range of sound and influence, there’s a thread of #psychedelia running through it all no matter what the surface trappings may be." #ExposeOnline #PsychedelicRock #krautrock #PostRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/atsuko-chiba-atsuko-chiba-2.html

New #review today: " In fact this live #Discus album was available two years ago as a bonus disc in a Japanese box set of the band’s first two CDs, subtitled The Official Bootleg, but this is the first time it’s been available as a stand-alone disc; and regardless of that earlier subtitle, this is no bootleg — the recording quality and mix of the six tracks presented is nothing short of stellar, especially given the difficulty of recording some of the Indonesian acoustic instruments." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #IndonesianMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/discus-live-in-switzerland-2005-3.html

New #review today: "#TheWinterResidence is the latest collaboration between British multi-instrumentalist #MikeSeed and #RLoftiss of #TheGrayFieldRecordings. Their debut album, How the Night Falls, presents eleven tracks in just under forty minutes, traversing territory somewhere between #DarkFolk, #wyrdfolk, hauntological folk, and experimental #folktronica. Ethereal vocals drift through indistinct electronic textures, #FieldRecordings, and spectral atmospheres that often seem to exist at the edge of perception." #ExposeOnline #ElectronicMusic #ExperimentalMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/the-winter-residence-how-the-night-falls-6.html

New #review today: "This set, recorded live at Orion Studio in April 1997 is powerful documentation that the instrumental powerhouse #BoudDeun (bassist #MatEiland, drummer #RockyCancelose, violinist #GregHiser, and guitarist #ShawnPersinger), could transcend their studio recordings, which numbered three at the time, and deliver a mindblowing set that could leave an audience speechless." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #JazzFusion #CuneiformRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/boud-deun-pronounced-booed-dee-un-3.html

New #review today: "#GabrielMás is the latest chapter in the long-running creative partnership between former #GabrielBondage founder #RexBundy and longtime collaborator #RichReardin, a pair whose roots stretch back to Chicago's fertile progressive underground of the 70s. Gabriel Bondage occupied a unique corner of American #ProgressiveRock. Active from 1970 to 1984, they released two albums, Angel Dust and Another Trip to Earth, combining progressive rock, acid folk, #ArtRock, country influences, and occasional touches of funk into a sound that often felt more British than Midwestern." #ExposeOnline #PsychedelicRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/gabriel-mas-hav3-a-good-trip-6.html

New #review today: "Sometimes you have to give up trying to make sense of the world and just accept things as they are. For example, why is there a band called #HoneyRideMeAGoat? I don’t know why they’re called that, but I do know that they’re a really interesting band, so I suppose they need a name. The group’s origins go back to 2000, when some students at Canterbury College bonded over a shared love of Captain Beefheart, Black Sabbath, and Soft Machine." #ExposeOnline #AvantJazz #AvantRock #AvantProg http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/honey-ride-me-a-goat-horns-hooves-2.html

New #review today: "Any listeners who have followed #Passionfix since their 2020 album This and That will not find any astonishing surprises on this latest album, Secret. The sound and style of singer #KellySecret is instantly identifiable immediately when the first song starts, and carries through to the very end." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/passionfix-secret-3.html

New #review today: "#MarkWirtz remains one of pop's great outliers. Best known for the unfinished #ATeenageOpera project, he spent the late 60s pushing studio pop toward increasingly elaborate forms, then somehow carried that vision into 1973 long after the rest of popular music had moved on. #ThinkLikeAKeyRecords' new reissue pairs his two obscure Capitol albums, Balloon and Hothouse Smiles, restoring both LPs to their original configurations and adding the non-LP B-side "Nothing to Do." The first thing to know is that these albums don't sound much like 1973. They're rooted in #BaroquePop, music hall traditions, film-score orchestration, and #Beatles-inspired studio craft." #ExposeOnline #ArtPop #PsychedelicRock #PsychedelicMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/mark-wirtz-the-70s-albums-balloon-hothouse-smiles-6.html

New #review today: "The #ClaudioScolari Project is back once again with their trademark brand of modern #jazz sounds, ranging from composed and arranged to outright chaotic madness and everything in between. Those familiar with the six albums beginning with Upside Down (2019) will be in relatively familiar territory, this is a group that doesn’t change that much from one release to the next, at least as to the execution of their craft, though they tend to get more daring and fearless." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/claudio-scolari-project-lines-of-now-3.html

New #review today: "#TheAction was one of the great "what if?" stories of the British 60s. Produced by #GeorgeMartin, celebrated as a live act, revered on the London mod circuit, and responsible for a remarkable string of singles, they somehow never managed to place a record on the charts." #ExposeOnline #ThinkLikeAKeyRecords #PsychedelicRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/the-action-rolled-gold-the-complete-1967-68-recordings-6.html

New #review today: "#KingOfSweden is a really good #ProgressiveRock band that builds their sound out of the classic building blocks of prog, but does such a good job of it that they don’t sound retro or nostalgic. In the four tracks on Interregnum, which is their second full-length album, they remind me at times of the French band #Atoll, #PeterBanks’ #Flash, and (for current references) #MoonLetters." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/king-of-sweden-interregnum-2.html

#ThrowbackThursday #reviews from 1998: "For the first time in who knows how long, the Ozrics really surprised me with this one. While still undeniably #OzricTentacles in every way, they have pushed further into territories they have always hinted at before, namely dance, electronica, #JazzFusion, and spacey ambient." #ExposeOnline #SpaceRock #ElectronicMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/ozric-tentacles-curious-corn-2.html
-
New #review today: "With #HadalSherpa's fourth full-length release Mountains, the Finnish quartet returns to the heavy world-influenced rock that made their second album Void Weaver such a standout, a purely instrumental style that meets somewhere at the crossroads of the ripping heady power jam sound as it crosses from Morocco to Istanbul." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #SpaceRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/hadal-sherpa-mountains-3.html

New #review today: "#RogerHoudaille's seemingly endless quest to rescue overlooked music from obscurity has unearthed another gem with The Recordings 1971-1981, a retrospective of Los Angeles cult favorites #Skooshny. More than a compilation, this #ThinkLikeAKeyRecords release serves as a document of the band's formative decade, gathering the Alien Records recordings, the 1979 single, unreleased tracks, Michael Penn sessions, demos, and the earliest recordings featuring vocalist Mark Breyer." #ExposeOnline #PowerPop http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/skooshny-the-recordings-1971-1981-6.html

New #review today: "After the gem that was Circle Six in 2018, Bergen’s #EmmerhoffAndTheMelancholyBabies have taken their time finishing their next album. New #review today: "#Evolución is a Chilean band that has been around since the early 80s, though their recorded output is sparse; Secretos is a live album recorded in 2006-2007 and released in 2021. While I can’t fault the players for their technique, the music is instrumental fusion-oriented rock somewhat on the generic side." #ExposeOnline #MylodonRecords #JazzRock #ProgressiveRock #fusion http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/evolucion-secretos-2.html

The group is now a quartet, with the dual-saxophone front line of #PeteGrogan and #ChrisWilliams that has defined them since the beginning fronting just bass and drums.
