New #review today: "For those unfamiliar with #JohnHoward, the British #SingerSongwriter first emerged in the mid-70s with the now highly regarded Kid in a Big World. Although commercial success eluded him at the time, his work has enjoyed a remarkable revival in recent decades, leading to a steady stream of new recordings and reissues. His latest release, Overnight Bags, is a deeply personal collection of eleven songs." #ExposeOnline #ThinkLikeAKeyRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/john-howard-overnight-bags-6.html

New #review today: "#EllingUlvestad is a songwriter from the Planet Earth who leads a band called #Molo. Several years ago, I wrote about the album Earthsongs, and now we have the band’s second album, This Is Earth. The primary feature of the new album is that the quality of the songwriting remains at the same high level — these are just good songs presented with relatively few extraneous frills." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #SingerSongwriter http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/molo-this-is-earth-2.html

#ThrowbackThursday review from 1995: "A Dutch quartet of guitar, bass, drums and woodwinds, this is #Blast's second release (the first being the hopelessly obscure Puristsirup from 1993), and the first for #CuneiformRecords. While their music is ostensibly rock based, they seem to pull more than their share of influence from the more recent proponents of #ChamberRock' the early abstractions of #HenryCow..." #ExposeOnline #AvantProgressive http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/blast-wire-stitched-ears-3.html

New #review today: "#Chafouin (translation: Sly) is a French experimental noise-pop-rock trio (though sometimes a duo and sometimes a quartet), but when the band leader #lAustral decided to expand to an octet, he rechristened the band #ChafouinOrchestra, and this is their self-titled debut. Any listener who dares is in for some kind of wild ride!" #ExposeOnline #AvantProgressive #minimalism http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/chafouin-orchestra-chafouin-orchestra-3.html

New #review today: "I became aware of #EdMacan around 1997, an educator from California’s north coast College of the Redwoods, who’d written a scholarly tome titled Rocking the Classics – English #ProgressiveRock and the Counterculture. Around the same time, his band #HermeticScience released their debut album, a band like no other, featuring Macan on mallet percussion (mostly vibraphone and marimba) and piano, and two students from his music program on bass and drums, forming a trio. At the time there was nothing else quite like them — all of the music was written by Macan, though the influence of his progressive rock interests were always evident." #ExposeOnline JazzFusion #JazzRock #jazz http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/hermetic-science-ed-macans-hermetic-science-30th-anniversary-edition-3.html

New #review today: "#RicardoFormoso is a Spanish composer and trumpeter (I guess for this release he’s exclusively a flugelhornist) who capably leads his four-piece band through a labyrinth of #jazz, #funk, and #JazzRock #fusion." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/ricardo-formoso-electric-rebound-3.html

New #review today: "In 2022 we covered the two parts of the Tales of Belle saga by Norway’s #Adventure, Across the Ocean and Unveiled by Fire. The band’s 2000 self-titled debut has been reissued by #ApollonRecords as a double LP set, so we get to see where this group in the classic #ProgressiveRock mold got its start. The original recordings date from 1996-99..." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/adventure-adventure-2.html

New #review today: "For a band that put the word “laughing” in their name, Norway’s #LaughingStock doesn’t have much humor or lightness in their music. With Life in Seven Dreams, they’ve released seven albums, mostly concept albums dealing with dark and weighty topics. This new release continues that trend with eight tracks borne of difficulties the band members have been through recently." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/laughing-stock-life-in-seven-dreams-forgotten-dreams-2.html
-
New #review: "#LiunAndTheScienceFictionBand have two previous albums that I’m not familiar with, so Does It Make You Love Your Life? is their third, and it’s a tasty variety of #JazzRock. The album features eight relatively short tracks (compared to your average big band fare, at least) in the three to six minute range." #ExposeOnline #LuciaCadotsch http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/liun-and-the-science-fiction-band-does-it-make-you-love-your-life-2.html

New #review today: "After a five-year gap, #Ping is back with another set of off-kilter rock songs. Songs from the Nebula carries on from The Zigzag Manoeuvre with eleven slices of unpredictable music. While not much of it actually sounds like #FrankZappa, it’s apparent that the influence looms large in their minds, working from a willingness to warp various styles into a humorous sculpture of theatrical craziness." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #ArtRock #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/ping-songs-from-the-nebula-2.html

New #review today: "#TheDredge is based in Bergen, and June 2026 brings the release of their second album, Down the Beach. It builds on the foundation of their 2024 album Torches, where they presented a sound that included aspects of Porcupine Tree (minus the heavier bits) and Airbag, but also such diverse bands as Mogwai, The The, and even Police." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #PostRock #ProgressiveRock #PsychedelicRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/the-dredge-torches-down-the-beach-2.html

New #review today: "#Pymlico’s studio releases have consisted of instrumental music that touches on both #jazz and #ProgressiveRock, often with a funky edge but always melodic. With No More, No Less we get a taste of what the band can do live." #ExposeOnline #JazzRock #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/pymlico-no-more-no-less-2.html

New #review today: "Purple Spirits is a collection of instrumental tributes to artists that have historical connections to #AncientFuture, and perhaps some that might not be readily obvious, but many current and former members are on hand for this one." #ExposeOnline #ZakirHussain #JimiHendrix #WorldFusion #WorldMusic http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/ancient-future-purple-spirits-3.html
-
New #review today: "#ToyWeather’s #SveinHovland says that Van der Graaf Generator is a big influence on him, but listening to the music on Feathers in a Strange Wind, that comparison would never come to mind. His voice is more than a little reminiscent of #TimBowness, so anyone familiar with #NoMan will likely have that in their mind, though Toy Weather’s music is not built on electronic instrumentation." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/toy-weather-feathers-in-a-strange-wind-2.html
-
New #review today: "Bergen’s #PurpleSkies is another entry in the roll-call of modern bands that take inspiration from early #BlackSabbath. When treading such a well-worn path, it takes a fair amount of skill to not just sound like a rehash or cliche. To my ears, Purple Skies manages it nicely on their debut, A Million Years." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords #StonerRock #PsychedelicRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/purple-skies-a-million-years-2.html
-
New #review today: "#Pymlico has always had multiple aspects to their sound, contrasting melodic sections that are alarmingly close to Smooth #Jazz with harder-hitting sections that draw from #ProgressiveRock and #PostRock. Core continues that trend, and I often find that just when I’m starting to think of Kenny G and being stuck on an infinite elevator ride, they’ll hit me with something more like Camel and I’m back on board." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/pymlico-core-2.html
-
New #review today: "#PeterStröm is the name of the group—there’s no member by that name among the musicians, who recorded this jam session in 1992, after which it sat unreleased for 30 years give or take. The group features the late #PeterFrohmader on guitars, along with drummer #AndySowade and bassist #TobiasSiegert; their music is pretty much an exercise in duplicating the attack, freedom and feel of early 70s German rock typical of bands like Guru Guru." #ExposeOnline http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/peter-strom-free-electric-rock-3.html
-
New #review today: "#TheFërtilityCült is a Finnish band founded in 2008 which has been compared to #BlackSabbath, #KingCrimson, #WishboneAsh, and #ElectricWizard. Now six years after their fourth album, they have released their fifth, A Song of Anger, and the first on #BlackWidowRecords." #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock #FërtilityCült http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/the-fertility-cult-a-song-of-anger-6.html

New #review today: "This split release celebrates a decade of activity by two #ApollonRecords artists, #Jordsjø and #Breidablik, each of whom presents a single side-long track called “Kontraster.”" #ExposeOnline #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/jordsjo-breidablik-kontraster-2.html
-
New #review today: "#Dobbeltgjenger’s follow-up to the INXS-inspired The Twins, predictably for this band, makes a distinct stylistic shift. Acoustic guitars are the dominant sound on some tracks, though the songwriting is very much in the same intelligent, melodic vein as previous albums." #ExposeOnline #ArtRock #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/dobbeltgjenger-master-of-failure-2.html

New #review today: "An album of #PreparedGuitar improvisations might seem like a risky proposition — I’m sure many would be bracing themselves to hear walls of noise and all manner of harshness. But in the expert hands of #BillHorist, Substratum is a rather meditative affair, built of mostly sparse sounds allowed to ring out and decay as their tones subtly change." #ExposeOnline #ExperimentalMusic #AvantGarde http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/bill-horist-substratum-2.html

New #review today: "Three years after #Kornmo’s previous release Fimbulvinter, they are back with a new concept album called Vårjevndøgnsnatt (Night of the Spring Equinox), based on a story that begins in Ireland and ends in the deep Norwegian forests, spanning four long tracks for roughly 75 minutes of some of the best instrumental #ProgressiveRock that you could want." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/kornmo-varjevndognsnatt-6.html

New #review today: "#AiPhoenix was a Norwegian band active from 1998 to 2014. Today they give rare live performances that draw fans from across oceans. Ai Phoenix brought something new to the Norwegian music scene: #shoegazer #DreamPop..." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/ai-phoenix-the-driver-is-dead-6.html

New #review today: "It’s a bit like #Bangles met up with #WildColonials and decided to try their luck with a #FolkRock style. Any lover of tasty music with great singing and smart songwriting should check out #Lovebugs." #ExposeOnline #PowerPop http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/lovebugs-overloved-2.html #ApollonRecords
-
New #review today: "The music is wildly creative, incorporating everything from heavy rock to cabaret jazz to modern classical music to pure insanity. When they rock, they’re tight as all get-out, and the expanded instrumentation is handled superbly, inspired more by modern composers than Romantic or earlier, full of harmonic density and complex interactions." #ExposeOnline #Eunuchs #AvantRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/eunuchs-harbour-century-2.html
-
New #review today: "Retrogradient is a musical hologram. You can sample a few seconds from any of the nine tracks and it sounds like the entire album... what #Deorbit delivers on Retrogradient is a mind-numbing 44 minutes of sludgy distortion..." #ExposeOnline #SludgeRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/deorbit-retrogradient-6.html
-
New #review today: "Due to the success of his recent releases, #ApollonRecords has reissued #AndersBuaas’ debut solo album The Witches of Finnmark on both LP and CD. This debut of six instrumentals is undoubtedly Anders’ best work, which is saying a lot considering the excellence of his other solo albums." #ExposeOnline #ProgRock #ProgressiveRock http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/anders-buaas-the-witches-of-finnmark-6.html
-
New #review today: "In the course of #Dobbeltgjenger’s journey through music history, we’ve touched on mid-70s inspired power pop (Limbohead) and disco (Smooth Failing), so what’s next? If I had to pin down The Twins stylistically, what I’m most reminded of is the #INXS of Listen Like Thieves and Kick. These are catchy songs with energetic beats, slightly funky rhythms, and strong vocals." #ExposeOnline #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/dobbeltgjenger-the-twins-2.html

New #review today: "In the midst of the pandemic after the release of their first album, #StrangeHorizon joined forces with Eirik Arnstem of #Kryptograf and began working in the rehearsal building Skur 14, hence the album title." #ExposeOnline #HeavyMetal #ProgMetal #ProgRock #ApollonRecords http://expose.org/index.php/articles/display/strange-horizon-skur-14-6.html
