Just managed to stop myself buying some Wharfedale Denton 2s from the local charity shop. Only £20 but were in poor condition and would have needed some work I reckon.
I'll stick with my Diamond IIIs for now. Still going strong after I repaired a magnet.

The problem with old radios: DAB or DAB+ was not invented then, so they are at best FM (dubious, if really ancient). Micro #HiFi or separate components. So that while some stuff look fancy, they are essentially useless, not worth anything apart from being a display piece and that means that you need extra space for such devices.
This is a pity as there are really cool looking devices of old.

Quick question to the HIFI-bubble. I have a Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie. It came with the Ortofon 2M Red and I upgraded it to a 2M Blue some years ago. Now I am thinking of replacing it with a Bronze. The alternative would be a new needle for the Blue. 139€ vs. 360€. Is it worth it?

Today I finally found a purpose for my #RaspberryPi after it had been sitting on a shelf for almost two years. 😄
I set up a tiny home music server using Samba, #ReadyMedia and #Syncthing.Now every FLAC album I buy on #Qobuz is automatically synchronized via #SyncThing from my Mac to the Raspberry Pi and instantly becomes available in my home music library e.g. for the Technics SA-C600.

Nearly two decades ago now, I volunteered at a community radio station. They still had a reel-to-reel tape deck (that I never operated), MiniDisc (that I did use), and broadcast-grade loop tapes.
The loop tapes were like 8-tracks, except with one stereo track that was up to a few minutes long.
You'd pop it into the machine, hit play, and it would play, and then it would fast forward back to the start of the tape ready for next time.
They used them for station promos and some music.
The MiniDisc was a proper HiFi stereo unit.
Good times!

Bought an elderly LP* t'other day: it arrived quickly & looked very good; but it still got the bath that I give to all such acquisitions - twice.
Side 1 crackled a little at first, but settled down; side 2, however, vomited up this humongous hairball...
So the disc got another double dousing, & a doing with the velvet wiper; & now it all sounds lovely.
* Chick Corea - "Return to Forever", as you were about to ask...

Это третья статья серии о том, почему акустика, которая хорошо измеряется, может плохо звучать. В первой части мы выяснили, что АЧХ суммирует энергию не спрашивая, вовремя ли та пришла. Во второй — что комната добавляет к звуку копии и резонансы, и провели границу честности эквалайзера: ниже частоты Шрёдера он чинит физику, выше — только график. Сегодня отправимся в самые низкие частоты спектра, где пересекаются темы предыдущих статей. Бас — это частоты, на которых колонка ещё не закончилась, а комната уже началась, и где одно-единственное конструктивное решение — каким образом нагрузить динамик — определяет характер звука сильнее, чем всё остальное железо вместе взятое. После перестановки и наведения порядка в комнате моя система впервые за годы зазвучала собранно — и, как это всегда бывает, новая расстановка только подчеркнула фундаментальную недостачу. Описать словами мое разочарование весьма непросто, ведь там, где бас ещё оставался — у самой настройки порта, — с ним вдобавок было что-то не так. Если раньше баса было много, но он был абсолютной кашей, то теперь стало отчетливо слышно, как бочка ударника набирала вес, но теряла резкость удара: щелчок и тело ноты будто расходились во времени. Кривая АЧХ там, у частоты настройки, ничего дурного не показывала — а слух показывал; у меня уже было правило на этот случай, ещё с прошлых стараний: если график в порядке, а слух недоволен, надо смотреть на время .

Sagt mal, kann der Arylic S10+ Streamer beim Abspielen vom mp3s die Blenden / das Ausblenden am Ende eines Musikstücks prinzipiell nicht richtig wiedergeben? Es kommt dabei zuverlässig regelmäßig zu Aussetztern/Stotteren.
Ist das ein bekannter Bug? Gibt es eine Update, dass das Problem behebt?
