These are the common forms of modern, #academic #writing:
• quick reference handbook (QRH) / survey paper
• expository article / introductory book
• in-depth monograph / comprehensive reference manual (CRM)Of those, the most difficult to master is the mid-sized introductory form, which demands of the author a thorough grasp of the material, a deep experience in teaching novices, and a refined sense of editing.
On the other hand, the brevity of the QRH form shields the author from most criticisms, and the breadth of the CRM form obfuscates the shortcomings in the author's taste and style.

Did My Sexuality Change Because I Started Working With Other People’s Sexuality?
If I had to answer in one sentence, I would say: absolutely Not because working with other people's sexuality taught me how to become more sexual It taught me something much harder It taught me to look at sexuality without simplifying it Other people's sexuality. My own. The sexuality we show the world, and the one we sometimes cannot even name ourselves I am nineteen now. At eighteen, I left Poland and started a new life in London. Frankenstein, The Post-Modern Autism Mom
In the near future, Victoria Frankenstein has it all - a perfect husband, three perfect daughters, and all the material comforts. But despite this, she feels a void in her life. And then it hits her - she needs a son.
Determined to fill this void, Victoria adopts a vaccinated autistic son, and shares their journey with the world through the internet. As she becomes an influencer in the world of parenting, fame and success seem within her grasp.
But with an autistic child, nothing comes easy. And as Victoria navigates the challenges of raising her son, she realizes that along with the fame and success, comes pain, misery, and even death.
Frankenstein, The Post-Modern Autism Mom is a thought-provoking and absurdist tale that reflects the complexities of modern parenting. With a unique twist on the classic story, this book will leave readers questioning the societal pressures and expectations placed on mothers today.

2012
We had some pleasant memories in Colorado, but something was always missing. Sometimes me and Eme would go for this long, beautiful drive up the mountain and let the dogs go with us and see the deer. Oh, how they loved going for rides with us!
Amelia met her first boyfriend, and it was so cute to see them going off together on their first date. We went to concerts at the park, and it was so refreshing to see other people out drinking alcohol that was served in public! Being from Utah you would never see that! There was a feeling of freedom where everyone was happy and chill, doing their own thing, and not judging anyone else for doing there’s. I loved that feeling. I felt like I belonged. It was also like that in Arizona and Washington as well. The world is a large place with millions of really cool and good people in it who know God, Mormons only take up a small part in Utah & Idaho. It’s like living in a fishbowl where your married to Tom, Dick, and Harry, Bobby BYU and Molly Mormon girls.
So, I fell, and fell hard, it was like mental confusion coming on strong. Calling the crises line for help because of suicidal ideation but getting no help from them.
Was it the move? Petes surgery? Jessica Sage not with us? Missing my old job where I was a babysitter in my own beautiful home? It was a dark heavy thought and no matter what I tried to do to release it, it would not go away.
Smoking, drinking more, did not help. I had no real worry or major concern in my life so why was this happening again?
Colorado was a time of me being deeply depressed with suicidal thoughts and not understanding why? Worry about my children, my dogs, and missing my family in Utah.
I loved the escape of running through the fields with Eva and Andre. We felt free and there were several gratitude moments. Surrounded with beautiful scenery, big open fields where you could get lost in, I used to play in the fields with Jay when I was younger, just being in nature,
Maybe it was just the worry of not knowing what we were going to do next in our lives. I mean would we stay in Colorado; would we build a house there?
Pete had built the mansion in 2009, and we lost it from the crash in 2010. That was a really difficult thing for us to go through.
It just felt like we were starting all over again.
Would the kids all come and be close to us?
Petes indecisiveness really bothered me and pissed me off. I mean why are we always moving? This sucked, it’s like you have to start all over again and change your whole life every time! Moving is hard on any family, especially when you leave all your extended family behind. I mean it was for me.
We decide to move back to Arizona thinking this will be good, but little did we know that this would be the beginning of our nightmare.
Kash had moved and went back to AZ first, I was missing Andre because he took him with him. I decided to drive all the way to AZ to go see him, yeah, I missed him that much, well and Kash too!
Unfortunately, something bad happened that day. Andre bit a lady; it wasn’t as bad as it sounds. This lady was acting all hyper and screaming, causing Andre to get more freaked out, and this was before Andre had even done anything! She provoked him. If she would have just kept her mouth shut and went on her way none of this would have ever happened! She started kicking at him and hitting him and he bit her on the bottom of her leg. Well, I was mortified. Andre had accidentally run out of Kashs house when he wasn’t supposed to so yes it was definitely our fault. She scared him, and he scared her!
Kash grabbed Andre and put him back in the house while I went and attended to this lady. I apologized repeatedly and I was trying to be helpful and kind. I went in her house with her and got her a cloth to put on her leg. Again, the bite was not that bad there was no blood or anything, but I will admit if I would have been bitten by a strange pit bull I would have been upset too. Not as upset as her though. Nothing I could say or do would help and she was very rude to me crying and screaming hysterically. She called the cops and even the cops told me she was overreacting and making way too big of a deal over a small bite.
Yes, it was a bite, I know that is serios and I felt really bad, I tried to help as much as I could. I was so worried they were going to take Andre away, but they ended up giving us a warning telling us Andre had to be on quarantine at my home back in Colorado. I drove back home in shock and in tears. I felt bad this happened, and I felt helpless.
The lady ended up suing us, so we had to go to Court, but the case was dropped because she never showed up! It was a lot of drama and a lot of stress.
We rent a little place in Fountain Hills again, and both the girls are living with us now. Kash is on his own again. I get a job that I really liked at an awesome Pre School in Scottsdale. Everything was brand new; it was a beautiful school, and I liked this environment.
#books #family #fiction #life #writing
Pete and the girls go to Yellowstone with my family, but I didn’t go because it was my first week on my new job and I didn’t want to lose this opportunity. I look back now and wish I would have gone.
Amelia is a Junior in high School and is a cheerleader. She was so cute!
I was falling deeper and deeper in the black hole of hell and depression.
Was it because I was getting older? I hated aging! I was about to hit 50! So, depressing! I had dreaded and feared this old age my whole life! Things were really bothering me, I was struggling so bad, I tried to read self-help books, I tried to pray and talk to gram, but nothing was helping.
I ended up quitting my job at the preschool because it was getting too overwhelming. They continued to add more and more children with not enough help from teachers and I couldn’t do it all!
To make matters worse I end up working at Fountain View Village again with all the old sick and dying and to think that this would help with depression absolutely did the complete opposite!
Those old people are mean, depressed, rude, stubborn, heavy, demanding and they stink!
I tried another job at a day care, I remember vividly sitting in my car not wanting to get out and go through all the motions again. I just wanted to run away from life! Kash had shared devastating news with us that I will write about later and I didn’t have the strength to get out of my car and go back to work!It was Creative child Care, and I hated my bitch boss, her personality, and just everything about this job sucked!
I told Pete and Sage one day that I was feeling suicidal, and they didn’t quite know what to say. What could they say, I mean that is pretty heavy.
The heaviness of the emotions that I was going through literally caused me not to be able to move, especially the last one that completely came from left field from my son that I will write about later.
I wasn’t able to be around children because of the latest devastating news and I fell even deeper into the depression.
Then I got a hysterectomy!
and shit hit the fan.
One day I was taking the dogs for a walk and Andre saw another dog from across the street and he ended up pulling me so hard that I fell right on my face and broke my ribs and collarbone. It knocked me out because when I woke up, I was lying there with Andre and Eva right by my side and some bitch lady screaming at us. I don’t even think she asked me if I was ok, she continued to bitch at me and then walk off.
I was in so much pain, Pam happened to call, and I told her what happened, then Pete came home to me. He was pissed at Andre for causing this and Andre had also caused one of our neighbors to hurt his eye that was already hurt, which then this old man ended up suing us for so much money and if Pete would have not had insurance, we would be in the poor house right now.
So yes, Andre had caused so much stress and trouble. Pete continued to tell Kash to come get him or Pete was going to send him away. But Kash never came!
The hysterectomy was done because we thought it would help my awful heavy periods. Doctor Kwatra also told me that it could help with the depression. Boy was she wrong.
So yeah, I guess you could say I had been through a lot in a short amount of time. A head injury, a surgery, broken rib and collarbone, getting sued, moving, quitting jobs and the very worst the loss of my first grandchild. -

It may be worth recalling that Scott's 'The Antiquary', which I quoted from earlier today, is supposedly the origin of the word 'cliffhanger', thanks to a nail-biting conclusion to one of its chapters - illustrated below. The novel was published in 1816.

EP.123 Post Decepte-Con Catch Up – A Review of Comic-Con 2026 News
There are two kinds of Comic‑Con recaps. The first is a tidy little rundown of panels, cosplay, merch, and celebrity sightings. The second is whatever Ken and Pat delivered to Kareem the moment he logged on for this week’s episode of Tangential Giants.
Kareem missed their panel on the end of billionaire heroes in comics, so naturally he expected a straightforward summary. Instead, he got a victory lap, a confession, and a mild indictment. Pat swears the panel was a masterclass. Ken swears they were one tangent away from being escorted out. The truth, as usual, lives somewhere in the overlap.
Once the panel talk wraps, the trio immediately swerves into the kind of pop‑culture rabbit hole that should probably require a permit. They attempt to answer the eternal question: why do Transformers transform? Not in the lore sense, but in the “who decided turning into a semi‑truck was the optimal tactical choice” sense.
Then comes the debate over whether “Decepticons” is a name that has aged like milk. If your brand identity hinges on announcing you’re deceptive, maybe it’s time for a refresh.
And because no Tangential Giants episode is complete without a cinematic universe pitch that would make studio executives sweat, the guys try to fuse G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Fast and Furious into one mega‑franchise. The result is part fever dream, part marketing deck, and part international incident.
It’s a post‑Comic‑Con catch‑up that mutates into a dissertation on toy‑based geopolitics, automotive philosophy, and franchise physics. In other words, a normal week.

This weekend, the Challenge on Weekly Prompts is the word Confused.I was nervous when the handwritten letter arrived last week from the big city lawyer and now as I sat in her office I could barely keep my hands from shaking. The knot in my stomach had me confused and anxious to find out what was going on. When she explained that my Uncle John had passed and wanted me to have his Mickey Mantle rookie card as a keepsake I was filled with a feeling of felicity.

Writes H.G. Wells in The Time Machine: "Looking at these stars suddenly dwarfed my own troubles and all the gravities of terrestrial life. I thought of their unfathomable distance, and the slow inevitable drift of their movements out of the unknown past into the unknown future."
Quite apt for a solar eclipse week, eh?

Do not start writing unless you love it! – Guest blog by Christian Baines
Christian Baines is an author friend who recently posted the rant below on Facebook. Like me, he is on the indie side of the author scale, and what he wrote here is full of truth. He gave me permission to republish his words.
Do not start writing unless you love it and are willing to work to get good at it.
Seriously, those are the only reasons.
You will not make a pile of money. You will not get famous. You will be constantly told that ‘anyone’ or AI can do what you devoted years to learning and perfecting. You will be devalued. You will deal with sales avenues that constantly change their own rules to your disadvantage. Most events you do will leave you in the red financially.
You will spend hours physically hauling books around at those events or sitting at a table trying to smile through crippling self doubt. You will stare at the zero on a sales report wondering WTF you’re doing wrong (spoiler alert: nothing).
You will be bombarded with unsolicited advice and ‘rules’ to follow. You will get several AI generated emails a day promising marketing miracles because some idiot somewhere thinks you’re making enough money to be worth scamming. You will stare at notices for literary retreats and workshops costing thousands and wonder who the hell is coming up with that money.
You will have to network with people even though that is the polar opposite of natural for you. You will get bad reviews. You will be told you are an immoral or bad person because your book didn’t line up with a reader’s ideology.
You will lose years of marketing work with every shift in the social media landscape. And through it all you are expected to come up with a cracking story people will love.
Still want this job? Good. Because if you can handle all that and still love writing, you are the only type of person who should be doing it.
Occasionally, VERY occasionally, you might get lucky and shake some of these off. But if you’re fortunate enough to get several books out there, these are the demons you’ll be living with.
Happy creating.

@leoboulton Have you considered pen and paper?
I started doing "morning pages" as recommended in The Artists Way by Julia Cameron (a book I do NOT recommend) and it has been great. It puts #writing on a schedule that I do not skip. This morning was my 69th entry and I have only missed two days.
If all you care about is getting words out, pen and paper is the way to go. No distractions from clunky interfaces or unnecessary formatting. Just write it down. #IAmWriting

I'll miss summer, but I definitely feel less guilty about holing up in a cafe and #writing when it's cold outside.
