  1. 🚀Google's IDE history is basically a never-ending quest to make #coding as thrilling as watching paint dry. 🎨 Who knew "strict tooling" could be so exhilarating? 🙄 If you thought #IDEs were boring, wait till you read this!

  5. Excitement to go with the morning coffee.

I discovered that as the water runs down in the coffee maker, it emits a long, Meeewwwwwwww. This resulted in five minutes of mayhem in the office an both dog and cats dashed around trying to find out who was in distresss/had invaded their space.

Memo to self - don’t let it run down again.

An excuse to re use a rather fine Lego model of coffee machine someone sent to me.

  12. 🌟 Expectations 🐾

As I start writing this, it's only one more night till the coming of Koa. I have tried to be prepared as best as I could. Tried to puppy proof things I the home. Tried to order enough food and snacks for him. Tried to get enough toys for him to play with. I got a new harness and leash, and a longer training leash. I cleaned things as best as I could. And... I tried to read as much as I could to "revive" my knowledge again. A change of my routine, to adjust to Koa. He is used to a schedule now, and I don't want to disturb it too much, when his whole world is already turned upside-down. I have canceled some appointents, I won't go to the gym for a while, I have asked kind folks to "puppy-sit" Koa, so that I can go to some appointments, which are too important to cancel. I am excited. I an anxious. And, I am also a bit scared... […]

  13. It’s Koa time! 🥳

It's been a while now... First, the big tragedy of losing Arwen so suddenly. Getting on the waiting list for a new puppy. While still crying every day over Arwen, I also wanted to prepare myself for a new choccy love. It would take a few months before the mum-to-be would come in heat, so I had time to mourn. To deal with my grief and emotions. To make a little memorial spot for Arwen. On Xmas came the big news. It was time for Gentle to have her dates with Mats. A real Christmas 🎄 present... And then, the next part of the wait began... A month until the ultrasound. And then about 4-5 more weeks till the birth. And on February 25th, exactly two months since the first date, Gentle gave birth. And then came the sad news... The second gall, which would have been my gall, she didn't make it... 😢 I grieved again for a gall I never knew. But, there was a silver lining, as there was one boy available. So, eager for a new furry love, I prepared myself for a boy puppy... 🐾 […]

  18. "Let relentless optimism define your core!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

    --
Futurist Jim Carroll is writing a series, The Art of the Infinite Pivot, based on 36 lessons from his 36 years as a solo entrepreneur, working as a nomadic worker in the global freelance economy. The series is unfolding here, and at pivot.jimcarroll.com.
    --
For those who might ask, I'm in California today, on stage at 9 am with a keynote for a packaging conference. if the weather gods are willing, I'll be landing back at YYZ about 910pm, and should see a splashdown at perhaps 1030pm. Traditions and all!
    --

On a milestone like today, you realize that the most important piece of "gear" you’ve carried through 36 years isn't a laptop or a library of data.

    It’s your outlook.

In a world of relentless change, volatility, and a staggering rate of change that always seems to directly impact you, the most radical mindset you can adapt is to stay relentlessly optimistic.

Optimism isn't about being naive; it’s about being strategic. It's about making a conscious decision that you are always going to try to find the upside, instead of obsessing over the downside. You are going to find the opportunities rather than becoming distressed about the negatives. It means you are going to always act to keep moving forward, even though personal circumstances seem to be trying to drag you backward.

And it always involves thinking about a potentially better future. Look, if you don't believe the future can be better, you won't do the hard work required to pivot toward it. In my voyage, I’ve seen that the cynics are usually right in the short term, but the optimists are the ones who build the long term. Cynicism is a destructive force: optimism is a powerful flex.

This is the secret to longevity. When you choose optimism as your core, every disruption becomes an opportunity rather than a threat. Throughout my 36 years, the pivots that felt the most effortless were the ones fueled by a genuine excitement for what was coming next.

If you let fear define your core, you will build a career based on standing still.
Doing small things. Making small steps. Chasing small goals.

But if you let optimism define your core, you build a career based on possibility.

Big ideas. Big trends. Big opportunities.

As I stand at this milestone today, I’m not looking at the challenges that exist around me today.

I'm looking at what comes next and what I will do to be a part of it.

That being the case, think about this: the future belongs to those who are excited to meet it!

  23. 🚀 Wow, solving #primality with deterministic flair, while the rest of us plebs just use "is it divisible by 2?" 🤔✨ Enjoy this riveting saga of counting zeroes and modular math, because nothing screams #excitement like an inline function and a C code snippet! 🙃🔢

  24. Excitement & anxiety 🐾

Time is going so fast now! After several months, where grief overwhelmed most of my thoughts and feelings, things are going very rapidly now. 😊 There is still grief, I still cry at times when becoming overwhelmed with memories. Arwen as a puppy. Arwen as an adult. Arwen, supporting me through my worst times. And me, doing all I could to help Arwen during her bad times. She was my world for so many years, especially since the divorce, when it was just her and me against the world. But, on December 25th (2025) came the news that Gentle and Mats has their first date, the second being planned on the following day. Then, we had to wait for a month, to get the results of the scan... Had Gentle’s and Mats' dates been successful? And then... Exactly two months after their first date, Gentle went into labor. Five healthy pups, and one star 💫, were born that day. And then... […]
