Hi, I'm Blake, and this was not how I had imagined spending my summer vacation.

As a kid, I would always spend summer vacation at my cousin Kaiden's. We'd been close, practically best friends. We would play games, watch cartoons, ride our bikes. As we grew up, cartoons were swapped out for horror films, and we'd talk about girls and look at Playfox together.

But life happened and we drifted apart. We got busy with the tail-end of high school. Then I moved away to attend college. Now and then I'd think back on our summers together, and wonder how he was doing.

When Kaiden's parents called me to ask if I wanted to come visit again and stay for the summer, I jumped at the opportunity. Apparently his parents were traveling, so it would be just me and him in their house. A rare opportunity to catch up, have fun, and just hang out and chill. Like old times.

I did think it was odd that his parents called, rather than Kaiden calling me himself. But I didn't think too much of it. Maybe they wanted it to be a surprise?

In a way, I guess they did. But the one who was surprised was me, not so much Kaiden.

I have been here a couple of days now. While I was slowly getting used to the situation, and to my cousin's new 'lifestyle', it was still quite surreal. But I was trying to make the best of it and still have some fun, even if some of it was at my cousin's expense.

“Here comes the choo-choo! Choo-choo! Heading for the tunnel!” I zoomed a spoonful of baby mush around the air, before landing it safely in my cousin's vulpine maw. He frowned at me, swallowing the soft food.

“I told you, you dun't hafta do the choo-choo,” he complained with a babyish lisp that he had acquired. That's one thing I'd quickly learnt: he looked adorable when he was pouting.

“Your parents were very adamant,” I started, as I more casually gave him another spoonful. “I ought to treat you as a baby, and I am to encourage any and all infantile behaviour. Wouldn't want to disappoint your mommy and daddy, now would we?” I lightly teased him.

Another spoonful, followed by a quick tickle to his ribs. “Coochie coochie coo,” I added for emphasis.

“N-nuh, stopit!” Baby food dribbled down his muzzle as he wiggled and giggled. The straps in his oversized high chair kept him securely in place, and the bib around his neck protected his onesie-shirt from getting too many new stains.

“You dun a'ways hafta wissen to mah pawents,” he pouted.

“Oh, I don't? So I guess I don't have to change your diapers either, huh?”

He blushed and fell silent. There wasn't much he could say in response. I grinned and kept feeding him his breakfast.

When I had first arrived, I was shocked. Seeing that my cousin, who was almost a year older than me, had been reduced to a big, diaper wearing, baby-talking, oversized cub. According to his parents, Kaiden had started showing 'regressive tendencies', starting with simple thumb sucking and bedwetting. After seeing a specialist, it had been decided to start him on a regressive behavioral adaption program.

They had let me look at some brochures explaining a few of the basics. How long the program might take, a few of the options, and what it would entail. I found it suspicious that they did not talk about how or when the 'client' was expected to return to normal; it was presented more as a goal in and of itself rather than a treatment for an underlying condition. The more I had thought about it and looked at the material, the more suspicious it seemed.

But despite moments of fussing and embarrassment, Kaiden appeared reasonably happy with his current situation.

And despite my own fussing and embarrassment, having essentially been tricked to be a free babysitter for the summer, I was enjoying it too. I was still getting to spend quality time with my cousin. Just in a slightly different way than I'd imagined. It was kind of fun to tease him, too. We'd always teased each other when we were hanging out.

“There you go! Good boy.” I slipped the last spoonful of baby food into his muzzle.

He swallowed, and seemed conflicted as to whether he was getting praised or mocked. Or maybe both. But he gave a bashful smile in return.

After wiping him clean (or, well, reasonably clean), I handed him a large, warm baby bottle filled with what had once been a dry powder but now looked more like milk. He grabbed it, and without second thought slipped the nipple into his muzzle, starting to suckle. That gave me the time to focus on my own breakfast, a simple but tasty chicken and lettuce sandwich. Definitely a meal fit for a fox!

I sat down at the kitchen table to eat, scrolling the news and social media platforms on my tablet to catch up on the latest. Halfway through my sandwich, I almost jumped in my seat at a sudden sound that echoed through the walls of the kitchen. While muffled, it was still loud and sudden enough to startle me.

I quickly turned to look at the source of the sound: my cousin.

“Dude, I'm eating here!” I exclaimed, looking at him with annoyance.

Kaiden blushed, his red-furred cheeks growing redder, removing the bottle's nipple from his mouth and lowering the bottle. “I'm sowwy, I–” His apology was interrupted by another sound, this one more guttural and wet. Under the tray of his high chair, I could see the fabric of his onesie gently stretch out around the obvious bulge of his diaper. I winced at the thought of what was now hidden beneath those layers.

I knew he had no control. Incontinence was advertised in the brochures as a part of the program. An optional part, but his parents had very clearly opted in. So there was no use blaming him. Still, it was hard not to feel some level of annoyance when the subtle and pleasant aroma of my breakfast sandwich was joined by the pungent smell now coming from his diaper.

Kaiden silently put the nipple back into his muzzle, ears folded back in defeat as he resumed nursing. There was clearly nothing he could say in this situation to make it better.

I put the remains of my sandwich in the fridge, having lost my appetite thanks to Mr. Mud Pants.

Looking at him, it was hard not to feel some sympathy.

I walked over, putting my paw on his head, giving some gentle pets and scritches to comfort him and to show I wasn't mad. His fur was surprisingly soft, almost like that of a real cub. Maybe the program comes with a special shampoo, too. I made a mental note to raid the bathroom later.

“Hey, it's okay, Kaiden. I know you can't help it. You're just a...” I hesitated, realizing what I was about to say. It felt both right and wrong at the same time. But there was no reason not to say it, right? It was, essentially, correct. Kind of.

After a brief internal battle, I finished my thought. “You're just a baby. Isn't that right?”

He blushed, but kept nursing, giving no response.

I smirked. May as well go all in. My paw moved to his side, giving him another light tickle. “You're just a baby, aren't you?” I repeated, now with an elevated coo to my voice as you would speak to a young child. “A stinky little baby with a big poopy butt.”

“Nu-u-uh!” he whined between giggles, droplets of the milkish liquid dribbling down his muzzle. He wiggled in his seat again, but was still kept securely in place in the high chair he was constrained to. I could hear his diaper squish and squelch as he moved, and caught big whiff as he shifted about in response to my tickling.

I ceased and took a step back, focusing to suppress my natural gag reflex as my cheeks no doubt turned green from the sudden nausea-inducing smell, quickly switching to breathing through my mouth. Kaiden calmed down, his spirits seemingly lifted, returning to nursing on his bottle with renewed vigor.

Once I had taken a moment to recover, he had finished his bottle. I took the now-empty bottle from his paws and set it aside, leaning him forward in his chair so I could rub and pat his back. It didn't take long before he let loose a loud burp, followed by a few smaller ones. “Good boy,” I casually praised once again.

After another quick wipe of his muzzle it was time to free him. Unbibbing was followed by removing the high chair tray, then undoing the straps.

I helped him down from his seat, letting him hold onto my shoulders as I placed my paws on his sides. It was still awkward maneuvering a 'baby' of his size. What also made it more difficult, was my own hesitation. I was not used to being this paws-on with my cousin, and I kept feeling like I should ask for permission. But you don't ask a baby for permission to check their diaper, to clean them, to feed them. They have no real agency or privacy, and are at the behest of whoever is caring for them. Which I guess is me!

But getting my brain to re-categorize Kaiden as a baby would take some time. Though I seemed to be gradually getting better at treating him like one.

Kaiden steadied himself, paws on my shoulders, slowly gaining his footing. I had noticed his balance seemed poor, and he was overall clumsy. No doubt due to the program – and his diaper which forced his thighs apart (especially when full) certainly didn't help.

“Okay stink-butt, let's get you changed.” I smirked as he blushed. I put his paw in mine, giving him additional support as we started on our journey to his room-turned-nursery for a much needed diaper change.

His waddle was adorable. The thought of what was causing the waddle... less so.

I idly wondered how many diapers we would go through by the end of our summer together. I also wondered whether I'd have gotten used to the smell by then. Maybe using more baby powder would help. But it probably wouldn't. Oh well.
