#PennedPossibilities 1157. Tell us a random, interesting fact about your WIP.

How about two since my brain is parsing the question two ways; and they're interconnected

1) I don't translate when a character isn't speaking in English. I like to have the lines stand on their own in the scene with context clues.

Medb's heart rate dropped so low a galleon could be moored between the beats. All her muscles moved in slow motion as she set the glass down. Her head turned with an almost mechanical precision.

“Sævvr brawd? Wydbþ? Wydbþ Sævvr y thít?”

Klein's head dipped slightly and his eyes cast downward. He sighed and replied with a tone tinted in a sympathetic sorrow. “I am not the one you named your sword after. But, I know his death.”

2) Medb's sword was the tip of a Jötun's spear. She named it after Sævvr who she grew close to during the Hoarfrost War. The two almost ended up as a mated pair after the war, but Medb grew homesick after about a year and returned to her tribe's territory. A few hundred years later they reunited for a while during the war the human city-state of Kerbesh started, before Sævvr was killed by Alsander's Krenaut.

#PennedPossibilities 1156: If your MC had (more) money in their possession, what would they do with it?

Well, it would look a lot like this.. at least until she got the feel for currency values in The Dream

As she shoved the pouches back into the pocket, Captain Nadie spotted half of a clan Tsagaansoyoo emblem on one of the pouches peaking between Medb’s fingers. Medb pushed the pile on the bar towards the bartender and asked, “Is this enough to cover my tally and bid some food brought forth?”

The bartender sauntered back over, idly cleaning a glass, then stopped sharply looking at the pile Medb had poured on the bar. “Uhhh. Yeah. That’s more than enough to cover anything you want for the rest of the evening.” The bartender started scooping the shares off the bar, then paused and pushed some of it back at Medb. “Ma’m I appreciate the generosity, but I’d feel wrong if I took all of it. Please take some of this back, you're covered the rest of the night, what can I get you?”

#PennedPossibilities 1153: Do you ever incorporate elements of horror into your work?

Incorporate feels a tad intentional. The horror elements occur as a natural course/function of the characters lives and journeys. From the body horror of Klein's transformation, on to Giftzahn's nightmare reliving what happened to him when he was barely a teenager hunting with his father.

Life can be horrifying at times.

#WordWeavers 2026-10-10. What is one thing your antagonist genuinely admires about your MC?

Not a bloody thing.

There is not much more than a mutual disdain and a hostile-respect betwixt the two.

Trinity takes umbrage with Medb's indifference to her station and power, and fucking LOATHES that Medb can casually stir up the feral aspect of being a werewolf that Trinity thought she had completely mastered and buried.

Trinity respects Medb in the same way you pause and back up out of the striking range of a rattlesnake.

Medb, counter point, understands Trinity plays a function within the /ecosystem/ of The Dream. Medb would rather kill Trinity for using the control parasite on her, & generally being a stark anathema to Medb, BUT that would be akin to taking a sledge hammer to the keystone of a structural arch.

#PennedPossibilities 1149: Think of a choice your MC made. How did it lead to where and who they are now?

How slow could a line of dominoes fall? Minutes? ...Several hundred years?

Medb made an agreement with the Morrigan.

In exchange for visions of + the scents and where to find the ones that murdered her daughters, in return Medb was given a portion of the Morrigan's power and charged with hunting and killing the last of the Bane Bringers when the Morrigan locates one of them.

Medb ran into one of the Bane Bringers back when she was much younger around 200yrs old, so the deal was a 'win-win' as it were since she would have vengeance and she would be empowered to hunt & kill a tangible threat to not just her people but the world as a whole that she had first hand experience with.

She kills Bane Bring Alsander during the sacking of Kerbesh, when she goes after her daughters' killers and in retaliation for the burning of sacred grass lands. Because of the Morrigan's gift, Alsander isn't able to steal Sævver's spirit when he kills him with the Krenaut, and Medb gets an echo of Sævver's spirit attached to her.

Jump ahead another several hundred years and Medb leads the assault on the tower of a very powerful Bane Bringer known as Martin of Maledictions. The goal was to kill him and thus halt his corpse army. Martin destroys the universe, Medb kills Martin after they plumit into The Dream.

Clack...

Clack...

So the dominoes fell to where she now finds herself. Orphaned cosmically fighting for Klein and Morgan... who are in turn orphans within their own stories.

#ScribesAndMakers 2026-10-04 Do you include details in your work that are important to you even though no one else will likely notice?

*Swamp witch cackling*
...ahem. Yes. Warm your tea up, and read on as I elaborate;

Trinity & Giftzahn assign Medb the designation "Ōkami" when they use the control symbiote on her with plans to use her in gladiatorial games. They do it as a bit of a mocking, similar to how Buggs Bunny calls Elmer Fudd "Nimrod" (if you know, you know).

Most will read it, and not think too much about it.

But...

People verses in Japanese folklore, will pick up the detail. They'll likely clock the meta level implications & connections of a /werewolf/ that prefers to take the form of a large wolf who was the champion of her people (for lack of a better translation of 'hætí') being called Ōkami. The romanization "Ōkami" makes it fuzzy in relationship to it's origins as there is 大神 : great god, vs 狼 : wolf. Medb genuinely is complex in a way that spans both in terms of not just face value meanings but also in mythology & folklore terms. She was the protector of her people & nature, she was a messenger for the Morrigan, and even though Medb gets mighty mighty uncomfortable with being called a goddess, she became a god of Nature and Death back in her universe.

This is why I use "Ōkami" instead of the common straight-descriptive naming convention Clan Tsagaansoyoo uses for its "volunteer" fighters, such as "Shiro Kiba" & "Nata Ono".

#PennedPossibilities 1145: Describe how your MC dresses.

Medb.. oh this question varies when &where you're looking.

Her home universe:
Naked most of the time.
Leather cloak for Winter while in hominid form. Very loose trousers held with a rope or heavy cordage. Loose fitting tunic like shirt. Both are made of linen or light wool, solid colours or undyed. The Rhai'r-tír packs have a 'communal closet' as it were, that resides with the stationary pack. There's 10-15 for each top/bottoms. The craftsmanship varies, they'll have Dwarven, Elven, and human made garments mixed together. Clothes are typically only worn when visiting cities of the humans or the Dwarves. The Elvens have ceremonial robes Rhai'r-tír wear when they visit as they are counted among the Elvens heroes and warriors (long history & alliance going back to the first genocide and the rise of the Bane Bringers)

The Dream (where we find her currently):
First she cobbled an outfit together from the least mauled clothes off of three people she killed.
After the hangar bloodbath, she ends up with a ponch that goes past her knee caps, that is brown and orange like Autumn leaves and decorated with black bird-like shapes. She wears sandals that are similar to classic Birkenstock slide ons (and yes she knows how to use them to devastating effect just like you abuela ). She wears no shirt under the poncho. And her shorts are plain grey cross between cargo shorts and board shorts.

Klein liked to spend time at The First Sip, drinking pints and talking about philosophies with Van Ander the bar tender. Which he'll have to find a new bar after the events of Sanguine Dreams

Morgan is a polyglot, and learning the languages Medb can speak and write has become a bit of a special interest.

Medb does not use contactions when she speaks. It is an artefact from learning Tradesman's Tongue from Lyshí whose first language is Elven.

A month later she disappeared for over a week and didn't come back home until that deer had kicked her, cracking two ribs. Her mother was cooking stew when she had slinked back in, shifted, then fell over from the pain and nearly passed out. She could still hear the amused tone as her mother told her “Until you're old enough to regenerate, stick to hunting things smaller than you.. and you'll heal quicker if you stay as a wolf next time. Also it's good manners to bring something back to cook. Now what got you and where?”

Martin of Maledictions destroyed his & Medb's universe, as part of a ritual to become an omnipotent god.

His mortus-oil anointed knife stabbed into her side twice before getting wedged between ribs on the third stab.

Her people's song, the melodical hum of the planet, their absence rang in her mind as a loud dolorous bell consuming the joys of life she had known. She couldn't focus, all she could do was cry, rage, and lash out at him in blind fury that sent them rolling around the ritual chamber. She would see his insides clawed open, leaving them spilled upon the floor disdained and disrespected, unworthy of even being eaten for nourishment. She would do it with bare fingers as there was nothing of her but unbridled rage. He had destroyed everything. Every living thing, their entire universe, destroyed, all in pursuit of godhood. She had only survived by the chance of being the first to reach the chamber door when all was destroyed and his tower pulled into the nothingness. She was the last of her people and she would be the last alive to bear witness to her universe having existed, as she would not permit Martin to remain in any existence.

Klein pulled Laric's lucky lighter with the engraved wheat stalk on it from the right hip pocket, and then carefully slipped off his necklace and onto himself. The necklace was a bent in half washer from a mechanical tiller Laric had helped their dad fix back when Klein was too little to understand which wrench their dad was asking for from the toolbox. He kissed two fingers, touched Laric's forehead, and whispered “I'll have to get your ashes from the morgue brother. Gods I'm so fucking sorry…”

Her home territory for 1,200years +/- a few.
It's the land that the packs that make up her tribe cover. Medb is an adamant adherent to the sacred charge handed down by the godess Lleuad. And that means protecting the land and her people.

Morgan flipped to another page covered in vertical lines of text in unfamiliar script. “Can you read this?” she asked with an assertive and defensive tone.

Sophitia blinked several times, just stunned. She had dealt with assholes, heads of clans that thought she was beneath them, and people who were questionably civil only because of how imposing her presence is… But never a child stepping in to defend the honour of someone over the matter of a perceived slight to their literacy skill. She quickly snapped to parade attention and said “Miss, I ask for your pardon. I meant no insult with my confusion. My reports concerning the death of my brother did not include such information about your protector.”

#PennedPossibilities 1102: Do you have a strategy for how you approach worldbuilding in your WIP(s)?

Most of my strategy consists of double checking with @GrayWolf57 and the other writers before committing anything to paper that directly affects or ties into cannon for the Riders of the Dream series.

The world building grows like wisteria following trellis. It has its logics it obeys and blooms accordingly.

House cat.

In Medb's (original) universe domestic cats aren't a thing. The closest are the Tykrians (think cross between leopard and lynx) the elvens have as guardians and part of their ranger detachments.

#PennedPossibilities 1100: Who is the most challenging opponent your MC has ever faced? What did they learn from them?

Bane Bringers.

On one end of the necromancy spectrum you have shamans like Líth who deal with end-of-life care such as helping spirits not get stuck amongst the living when the body dies. On the other end are Bane Bringers who developed magics and weapons to rend spirit from the body and absorb it. These bastards genocided the mountain trolls around 12,000 years ago in the time of Medb's grandmother, and they came after the Rhai'r-tír. A handful survived the combined retaliation of the Rhai'r-tír & nonhuman races.
Those were the ones that found means to hide from the gods of death.
Medb has faced 3. The first her friend Sævver saved her. The second you see in a flashback, she yanks from the seat of a Krenaut and rips the binding gem from his skull The third she kills but too late, and he destroyed their universe (where the reader enters)

She learned to kill quick, give no quarter.

#PennedPossibilities 1094: Saturday Word Edition: Share something from your WIP pertaining to the word “sorrow.”

What caught Lyshí off guard was how long of a memory they had. She lost count of the names and it was around ten minutes in that she heard three names she knew to be Medb's mother, father, and twin brother who all had died fighting in the Hoarfrost War. There were an other seven or eight names before the chanting stopped and all but Medb shifted into wolves. “And now.. and now we–,” sorrow choked the words in Medb’s throat like a noose was taunt around her neck. “And now we add.. Aeslla.. and Rowyn.. to the Litany of the Long Winter. Be at peace my daughters, my pebbles, my joy.” The pack howled in mourning as Medb closed her eyes against the tears that ran like a flood down her face and made streaks in the woad from chest to waist.

Well here's the canon description of what people smell when they get close to Medb.

"He paused mid thought as his nose brought to attention the scent of ravens or crows, and several wolves in the room. There was clearly only himself and her in the room."

There's clues that aren't hidden, but I don't know if I'll outright explain this phenomenon.

If we're talking about a designer candle or perfume, it'd be a blend of hewed pine or birch, and earthy—planty smell like stawberry plants (not the fruit)

#PennedPossibilities 1087 — Write or share something from your WIP pertaining to: “struggle.”

Before now, the knowledge that the clan, him, and his brother had pledged themselves to had cultivated new strains of the parasite for other purposes was abstract. Something known but not real, not tangible. Now the knowledge was material, the proof sleeping behind him on the other side of several inches of steel and wires.

A dolorous decay set into memories of enjoying watching the fights at the Hippodrome. Those fighters were probably controlled by parasites. His stomach turned, his skin felt uncomfortable, and something itched in the back of his mind.

He kneeled down and carefully slid the bowl by hand pushing it a good foot past the door. He screwed the patch-plate back into place, pinching the rope so the bowl couldn't get dragged further in.

Then he sat there. Leaning against the wall. Just listening. Listening for the ship to make weird sounds or serenade him with angelic hymns.

Nothing was there, only the indecipherable itching in the back of his brain, and queasiness in his stomach.

Medb made an agreement with the Morrigan. She gained the knowledge of when and where she could find the Kerbesh soldier that killed her daughters and his commanding officer. In exchange she would hunt several mages that tried to cheat the Morrigan's judgement with magic that kept their spirits bound to a body.

Medb is the reason the fae have the expression "Wolf at Court"
It's used as either an oath of honesty & no trickery, or as a warning 'don't try to deceive me'.

Lyshí second in line to the Silver-Ash throne, early in her career as a liaison to the Sídhe Courts, would invite Medb along as an advisor (read bullshit detector). At some point it became a thing to say "We have a Wolf at Court, shall I consult her?" if someone wanted to call someone else's bluff.

Which gave rise to "Wolf at Court."

Extra tid bit: the Fae and Sídhe call Rhai'r-tír "Wolves/Wolf" which is a different pronunciation from "wolves/wolf" that refers to the regular wolves.

#writerscoffeeclub 7/23: How much erotic content can a work have before being considered erotica?

When the erotic becomes the theme, and the story arc secondary, definitely erotica. Have I written such? Ya, a few short stories.

Do I have erotica or sex in my stories? Sure, I'd never pretend they didn't. Is it explicit? Mmmaybe... but generally, the actions between characters and the coupled emotions are true to the scene and the characters.

Characters in love, make love. Horny characters, are horny. It simply is in nature to play at procreation. To do otherwise is not natural.

Funny you say that. One of my side projects for #RidersOfTheDream series is logos for each of the #werewolf clans, and one for Medb / the Rhai'r-tír people.

Grab a drink...

It started as a possible book cover idea featuring the logos/clan symbols for the major parties involved in the story. And secondary as a visual shorthand of their personalities.
— Medb is a decently detailed manuscript/coat of arms style wolf head with orange eyes. It's looking to the left which visually is typical for denoting looking into the past, while the style and detailing impart a sense that she's from an older time & complex for it .
— Trinity / Clan Tsagaansoyoo is a large crescent moon with a stylistic simple wolf head that looks aggressive and is pointing to the right. The implications being Trinity is always looking at the next acquisition of power, the next chess move. She's one of the most powerful full blood #Werewolves in The Dream hence the large crescent, and as complex as her schemes tend to be, the end meta goal is relatively simple.
— Riker Tiberius/ Clan Tiberius: Riker is conceited, arrogant, and short sighted; so the logo always looks right at the viewer. He is also very angry with being disowned and exiled from Clan Kérberos, the many sharp points and vexed visage . Stripped of his last name he named his clan after what used to be his middle name, thus the prominent T which also hints that being stripped of the Kérberos name is always on his mind.
— I haven't gotten to the Clan Kérberos logo, but tentative design is a wolf head looking left, another looking right, and an owl head in the center. Representing the Clan's diarchy of Antigone & Demitrius (other clans are ruled by a single person), and their daughter Sophitia who handles their armed forces and the intelligence unit The Striges (she lovingly refers to the members as her 'owls'). The logo if I do it right will visually be a mid point between Medb's logo and the simpler styling of the others, a subtle nod that Kérberos purposely keeps it's self neutral among the clans.

#PennedPossibilities 1068 — In your WIP, do you have a MMC, FMC, or multiple MCs?

It started with Medb as the MC,
In the course of Medb moving through the new universe she lands in, along came Klein who was a SC possible to return in the sequel.
Then she accidentally bit him, and now his story is entwining with her's; present, future, ...and her past.

And there's Morgan. She is an MC in progress. I know that her story is the start of Medb cycling back to Trinity and Giftzahn to be thorn in their side. But, Morgan and Medb haven't filled in much details yet about what goes on between them other than Medb avenges Morgan's family for her.

Currently I'm letting a scene ferment to the right ABV%

Medb just got free from her escorts during a deadly violent altercation, doubled back to the tram they arrived on to mudy scent trails, and is wandering the streets in exquisitely unfamiliar territory. The buildings loom, their shadows may hide unknown shades , and I need to find her words to articulate how she perceives the alienness of it all in contrast to the stone and brick humans used where she came from.

Swearing, always tailored to the swear-ee and the genesis of the usage.

Klein uses the standard array of fuck, shit, ass, etc plus some him specifics such as "You absolute stripped nut!"

Medb kind of doesn't swear. ... it's odd actually given her record of interacting with humans. There's growls of various degrees, sometimes brief warning words if its a person.

The Rhai'r-tír are guardians and brutal avengers of nature. It's one of the sacred charges passed down since Eria was blessed by Lluade. They grind imbalances to a halt so the Elven and Dwarven can mend nature.

Medb is no different from any of the other Rhai'r-tír. If you try to clear cut a forest, she'll use your body to fertilize trees that get replanted. Take more deer than is sustainable? You'll find a pissed off wolf or three hiding cozy among the herds waiting for you.

Life feeds on life, but know your limits or nature sends reminders.

#WordWeavers 2026-05-21. How do you make your MC likable or relatable to in the first chapter?

Uh, bluntly, I don't have that aim in the first chapter.

The first chapter is a purposeful glimpse of Medb's m.o. and the Rhai'r-tír ethogram wrapped in the veneer of a quick action sequence.

Meet conflict with strategy
Use violence as needed
If someone tries to kill you, you kill them right back.

Honestly I don't try to make Medb likable. I just kind of let her live on the paper as a person unto her self. The same goes for Klein, or any of the others. I hope people find them as interesting as I do.

You'd get a thanks, then you'd likely never get the cat back. Medb has a fondness for apex predators/adjacents.

Don't hand her a rabbit or guinea pig unless it's an offering of fresh lunch. Birds smaller than a chicken are actually safe from being eaten as they're too much work to prepare and she doesn't like how feathers taste if eaten raw.

#WordWeavers 2026-04-09 One of your characters is seeing something unbelievable. What is it and why are they seeing it?

Klein experiences one of the echoes that is attached to Medb.

He relives Sævvr's memories from his last day alive, and things turn /wait, what the fuck is going on/ at the point where Sævvr dies and Klein starts to 'fall out sync' as it were.

Why he see this? Well, to crudely simplify things, blood born lycanthropy mixes with spiritual essence lycanthropy

Kind of like popping 5 caffeine pills a min after eating an edible, and a ghost turns up
