#EroticMusings 50: Is your creative workspace erotic in any way? Would a visitor guess that erotica is created there?
(Sorry I got behind on these)
My creative workspace is the whole house, so the answer is... sort of.
I have various bits of sensuous artwork dotted about: Butt Sculpture, Mini Butt, Butt Mug, Tender Embrace (the drawing I used for the cover of Ruinous Attraction), as well as gifts from friends like the Penis Nuns embroidery @Fredatron made me>

#EroticMusings 2026.05.03 — Week 49 (May 3-9) Characters: Do you come up with your characters before their relationships, or do you design characters to fit desired relationships or interpersonal dynamics? Any interesting examples?
The daemon Thorn Rose and the day angel Streak Carryingaton were created with their relationship in mind. She's as dark as midnight and he's as white as snow. I'm using intentionally loaded words here. Also, she has an accent that alludes to an eastern European accent. She's a first generation daughter of an emigrant mother alluding to the Jewish ethnic experience in the early to mid-1900s in the US. He's simply from a bad neighborhood never expected to amount to much. In a world where a relationship like what we would call "marriage" does not exist—and is indeed frowned upon enough to merit special adjectives describing it, like ancestrous—these two lovers have a special youthful chemistry and randiness. It allows me to contrast a relationship that seems normal to us with a normalcy in their society we'd find promiscuous at best. It puts an interesting spin on concepts of fidelity and love. They spend parts of this moonshot novel proving they're better than what everyone assumes.
Other than this one example, I'm more likely to have characters form relationships of their own accord as the story develops and I discover connections.

CW: EroticMusings Week 50 Studio - Workspace Eroticism
Is your creative workspace erotic in any way? Would a visitor guess that erotica is created there?
I suppose that depends. My poster of Sandro Boticelli's Birth Of Venus had to move because I didn't feel like risking it with the crappy proctors my school uses. My recreation of the Venus of Willendorf (I didn't personally recreate it) is in viewing range. As is my wood drawing mannequin but none of my plastic ones. (The plastic ones were posed to make poses that became the covers for Following My Siren's Thorns and The Emperor in Ochre.) In short, if you know what you're looking at, you might guess some of the things I get up to.
More probably, you'd just assume I was artistically and anthropologically inclined. Which I also am. :blobcataww:

#EroticMusings 49. Do you come up with your characters before your relationships, or do you design characters to fit desired relationships or interpersonal dynamics?
In one of the Audrey WIPs, the SC started as a boundaries-tempted trait I've seen in a few people, which is fun to explore.
Then I thought of how that could serve the series romantic relationship arc for the MC couple.
That decided which episode SC is in, and SC's relationships with the MCs.
-
CW: EroticMusings Week 49 Characters - Relationships
Do you come up with your characters before their relationships, or do you design characters to fit desired relationships or interpersonal dynamics? Any interesting examples?
Bit of column A, bit of Column B. Characters that are central to the story tend to be designed up front. The ones I discover I need as I'm writing will often be created toward the need of the moment but with at least enough of themselves that they don't merely exist for that moment.
-
CW: EroticMusings Week 47 Studio - time spent
How much time do you spend making erotica in a week? Do you have a regular schedule?
It depends on what I'm working on in a given week. April hasn't been a good month for writing at all (so far). In a good month (like February), I generally get 4-5 hours of writing in 6-7 days a week. So, if I'm mainly writing erotica, that could be about 35 hours. I'm generally splitting my writing time between mainstream and adult niches, though.
-
#EroticMusings 47: How much time do you spend making erotica in a week? Do you have a regular schedule?
I'm not a hard schedule kind of person but I try to write on average something like 200 words per day at least. Didn't work out lately due to several reasons, including a nasty cold, but I want to get back into that stride.

#EroticMusings 46: Does your work ever explore its own unreality? Part 3
#Airisu is the deepest dive into this, as the main narrator is a crow who sees the world in very different terms than humans. Airisu is also my least reliable narrator. I have yet to see how far that affects the narrative and if there is any effective hoodwinking of the readers.
-
#EroticMusings 46: Does your work ever explore its own unreality? Part 2
So far, my narrators have tried to be honest brokers. But they can only tell what they know and believe.
For example, Ume in #KonbiniIdol can be very hard on herself, and if you took her words at face value, you would believe she was a totally selfish, self-serving person. Things she can be, but not to the degree she blames herself for.
Similarly, in #MyGirlfriend, Kao believes herself fatally cursed and worthless. While Shiro battles between what she was taught about social conformity and proper sexual conduct and her own impulses.d.
In #TheGirlWhoSawGhosts, Arisu comes to believe she is a youkai who has possessed someone.
From that point of view, it explores how self-image and reality don't always match.

CW: EroticMusings Week 46 Craft fourth wall breaks
Does your work ever explore its own unreality? (e.g. unreliable narrator or breaking the fourth wall)
Not in a way that's as literal as a fourth wall break. There's a high degree of absurdity in the premise of the smutimatic universe and I'm definitely not shying away from it but I don't know that the work is exploring its own absurdity per se.
-
#EroticMusings 46: Does your work ever explore its own unreality?
#KonbiniIdol is Ume writing about what happened to her family. She is a conscious writer, so she seldom breaks the 4th wall.
The side story The Two Authors of Konbini Idol completely departs from this and is about me & Ume, the authors of the same story, meeting.

Bunny Week! Share your characters".'.. like rabbits" (e.g. fucking, dressed, hopping, eating lettuce?)I wanted to share a passage from Ruinous Attraction, which has Arthur and Ferdinand going at it like bunnies, due to being stuck in an overcharged ancient enchanted sex dungeon, but it's hard to pick a passage that's short enough. From my next freebie:
A slimy, furry creature emerged from the pile of goo and shell that had landed in my backyard. For a moment, it was impossible to tell what I was seeing. It looked like some inexplicable horror that happened to be brown of fur and have two eyes that looked almost human.
When my mind caught up, I realized I was looking at a woman. Probably in the best costume I'd ever seen but one that was designed more for someone with a particular fetish in mind. She had on a skin-tight fursuit with brown fur. It's kind of hard to say she was naked exactly considering the suit covered up her human skin but she certainly looked the part.

CW: EroticMusings 2026.03.29 — Week 44 (March 29-April 4) Culture: Is there an aspect of culture or political stance that shapes most or all of your erotica? CW: Sexual and moral politics
Feminism. Ethics. I'm anti-patriarchy, which is the use of oppression of women to enslave half the population in order to steal their property and rights. Morals are not ethics. Morals masquerade as ethics, but are arbitrary rules created to keep those in power in power and the rest of us unquestioningly loyal or enslaved, and to create new generations of unquestioning loyal and enslaved. Gender roles mandate conformity; they validate bullying and hate to enforce that conformity. I'm of the opinion that humans are programmed by evolution to want to reproduce, and if they want to do so, especially with the technology to deal with the downsides of disease and unwanted pregnancy, nothing should stand in the way of choice with consent. Technology means humans can be more than brutish animals; society needs to stop reducing us to brutish animals in the name of something arbitrarily "natural" or self-servingly moral. Attraction and preference is something every person discovers for themself. Others to fighting someone else' choice and preferences is at best bullying. Technology again obviates downsides, as above, so long as there is consent. Sexual shame is a terrorist tool.
As you may guess, what's spicy in my stories is influenced by my views as expressed above. I celebrate humans being human. Doesn't mean my characters are perfect, but their imperfection is a different kind of stupid.

#Writephant 2026.0330 — A5. What are your bread and butter games (specific titles)- the ones you return to time and again? Have you played any new games lately?
My bread and butter hashtag writer challenge games? You all probably know #PennedPossibilities, #ScribesAndMakers, #WordWeavers, and #WritersCoffeeClub. All amazingly helpful as a writer, and participants share truly useful ideas. Recently, I've added #EroticMusings, which since the current WIP includes spicy content (not specifically erotica), I figure I qualify for joining and replying to it. It has helped me resolve some issues. If nothing else, it's a new community.

CW: EroticMusings Week 44 Culture: Politics and culture
Is there an aspect of culture or political stance that shapes most or all of your erotica?
Doubtlessly. My politics certainly affect the characters I center my stories on. You won't see me writing smut involving billionaires as main characters who aren't villains. Rather, the bulk of my protagonists are 'middle' class or lower. In terms of culture, I'm not sure I'm in a good position to evaluate how my own culture impacts my stories.

#EroticMusings 42 — Setting: Do you include different languages in your work? Tell us about it!
I do, actually. I have a few fictional ones. But as far as English-related dialects or accents go, I also like to include those! It makes things far more interesting and fun to write. I'm rather good at Glaswegian as well. I've had lots of practice over the years, and I've cheated because I have Scottish friends.
-
#EroticMusings 41 — Are you self-taught, or have you been trained or mentored in your craft? Would you like more?
As an author, I'm entirely self-taught (and self-published lol). Practice makes perfect. And honestly, none of us are perfect. It's impossible. The best we can do is to continue practicing. There's always room for improvement.
-
CW: EroticMusings Week 42 Setting: Languages
Do you include different languages in your work? Tell us about it!
Depends on the work. Mostly no but, in the cases where I do, it's generally just a word or two and it's conlang. I have considered using a modified Toki Pona as an auxiliary language in the Etiqutte Empire / Taking Command univierse.
-
2026.03.08 — Week 41 1/3 (March 8-14) [Writing] Craft: Are you self-taught, or have you been trained or mentored in your craft? Would you like more?
More self-taught than most.
I could not understand English grammar, and all my primary school English and Lit teachers did nothing to make it interesting, nor did they impress me that facility in writing would prove useful. Science, yes. Math, yes. English, no. Except one teacher, who taught Science Fiction literature. I was already a reader; she taught me not to be embarrassed about my lit-of-choice. When I concluded I could tell better stories than the authors I read, I began writing. Lacking the skills, and knowing it, I studied the authors I loved and emulated their style and rhythm until I thought I "got" it. Then. Then, I started writing. Lots of trial and error.
That was in 3rd person. I wrote. I worked on my craft. I sold. But. But, it was always difficult.
Only recently did I realize I needed to let myself develop a personal storytelling style. Like… someone relating what happened to them? That. Telling a story out loud. That's my current style in 1st person, stories that can be read aloud to an audience.
No real mentoring, or training per se. Wouldn't necessarily say no if an editor decided to work with me to improve my craft. Takers?

#EroticMusings 2026.03.01 —Week 40 (March 1-7) Studio: Where/how do you promote your erotica? Is it effective? How do you evaluate that?
Previously, before the burnout, I had an agent and was conventionally published. I didn't write "spicy" either. First sale sold through the entire large first printing even though it only got mentioned in Locus Magazine, and was released the same month as a highly promoted Marion Zimmer Bradley novel. I think that was Mists of Avalon? I wonder if the publisher promoted my book whether the outcome would have differed.
Now I write some spicy stuff where sex plays an import part in the plot and some with bits of women being uncensored in how they approach sex. Nothing ready, yet. Time will tell whether I sell or how it gets promoted.

#EroticMusings 33 (11JAN2026— 17JAN2026) Craft: Is creating erotica an erotic act in itself?
Yes. For me at least.
If it weren't I don't think I'd have experienced the feeling of writing something too horny to finish in a single setting.
I write a lot of sex, and it is a focal point in #BeatPreyLove, and sometimes I do a good enough job of writing sex to distract myself from writing at all.
It's not every time, but it's frequent enough to be a thing I consider when deciding what to write or edit that session.

Snip from "My Girlfriend Almost Got Me Killed, so We had Wild Sex"
When I didn’t respond, Tanya waved to the maid to bring another round. I was confused. I had been incredibly lonely since my high school senpai had laughed off my confession and told me she had a boyfriend waiting for her at college. But Tanya-chan wasn’t my type. I didn’t know her, and what I knew didn’t impress me. She was rude, manipulative, and thought nothing of breaking rules.
We both jumped when the chair on my other side made a scraping sound. Turning, I saw a tall, long-haired Japanese woman sitting down. I couldn’t help thinking, unlike Tanya-san, she was my type!
End Snip

CW: Erotic Musings, Week 33 - Craft: Is creating erotica erotic?
Is creating erotica an erotic act in itself?
I think so.
What part, if any, does your own arousal play in creating or evaluating your work?
Evaluating, probably not much. But creating? It's definitely a factor. If it's not something I'm interested in, I'm going to have a harder time writing it. In some cases, I may not write it at all. I'm the first reader for all of my fiction. Whether I'm interested in something may not guarantee that anyone else is but if I'm not? It's hard to believe that someone else will be either.

“Inspector Bradstreet, pray tell what business brings you here at such an hour. Entirely uninvited, I may add.” Lady D’Arcy’s mouth had set into a smile bordering on a sneer.
Bradstreet looked up at her. He would have bowed, but the boa constrictor had him tightly trussed up. “I took the liberty of letting myself in. It was meant as a surprise.” He nodded toward the box, which was large enough for him to fit comfortably inside. Next to it lay a sack from which coal had spilled.
“Hmmm.” [Tap] [Tap] [Tap]
“Might…” he began.
She held up a hand, silencing him. “I find I cannot resist admiring a burglar—police inspector, though he be—caught quite literally with his trousers down.” Bare legs, exposed between the serpent’s coils, bore evidence of his lamentable state of undress.
She toed the sack. “And this? Coal? Pray tell, have I truly been so very bad to a mere inspector?”
“Ha! The coal is meant for me. I’m a most improper elf: I smoke, I drink, and I keep the worst of company—yourself most graciously excepted, Milady.”
“I see: droll English humor. Very well, Morgane. Release the inspector.”
The serpent looked at D’Arcy, its tongue flickering as if to say, “But I was having fun.”
The coils gradually loosened, revealing the inspector’s green shirt, elf cap, and a pair of red-striped, ivory-white legs, sans trousers. Lady D’Arcy tapped the inside of Bradstreet’s naked thigh and asked, “What urgency drove you to such lengths? I appreciate your dedication to humiliation—I couldn’t have done better—but I might quite easily have shot you.”
“I wished to see you once more, perhaps for the last time.”
The crop flicked higher, producing an intake of breath accompanied by a wince. “Do you intend to remove yourself elsewhere, or have you set your sights upon some wealthy sow?” she asked.
“No, Milady. Queen of Humiliations. A consulting detective by the name of Holmes has begun sniffing about for the connection between yourself and a certain missing peer.”
The lady’s eyes grew sharp, and the inspector gasped again with more feeling. Remembering his manners, he followed with, “Thank you, Milady.”
“You will delay him until I have put my affairs in order.” She planted a foot on him. “It should take no more than a day or two.”
As she shifted her weight onto that foot, she continued, “I’ll be sure to destroy all evidence connecting us as I board an outgoing ship. Don’t fail me, worm.”
“I won’t fail, my queen. London will be a #desert of #regret without you.”
The crop flickered once more, followed by a gasp and a thank you.
Lady D’Arcy turned to leave the room, calling over her shoulder, “Come along. I find myself in need of an outlet for my displeasure.”
Bradstreet smiled and replied, “As you command, Milady.”
