#WritersCoffeeClub Sep 11 - What's a part of your process you'd give free advertising to?
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I LOVE #Scrivener and fuck MS Word very much. In an era where Microsoft will hold your documents hostage to blackmail you into extending your cloud storage subscription, buy Scrivener once and own it forever. You know, like the good old days.
Great program too, much more useful for a long-form writer especially than Word.

#scrivener users: Has anyone revisited a project and found that random updated files are empty?
I've discovered I have three such files in that state in one project synced between Mac, iPad, and iPhone—but I have auto backups and mobile syncs, so content is recoverable, though maybe not the last edit.
In my case, each empty file has a last mobile sync of Aug 22, 2026 at 12:40 PM. That they all have the same snapshot time is significant, not the specific timestamp.
The first file I found empty, after the initial panic because these are chapters in a novel, I thought maybe I accidentally did a select all backspace. It could happen. I searched the backups, but could find nothing after the date stated above, so did a rollback to the mobile sync snapshot.
Last night around midnight, I found a second file. Today, suspicious, I checked every single file in the project, and found a third empty file.
Wondering if this ever happened to other writers. No doubt Scrivener devs at support will blame Dropbox. I am asking for feedback to find out if it happened to anybody else before I report it.

Jag var idag år gammal när jag lärde mig att det finns en #openSource #Scrivener-klon till #Linux som heter #Manuskript. Fortfarande i beta men ändå. Jag blir lite sugen på att bidra till projektet, det hade gett mig möjligheten att fördjupa mig i #python

Getting some early morning writing done in the little park around the corner, before the heat hits again.

I can't use OneNote effectively anymore for technical reasons
Should I buy #scrivener ?

@ianRobinson It is too bad that L&L has decided not to actively suppurt #linux but you can install it on linux too. Since the files travel pretty seamlessly among MacOS, iPasOS, windoze, and linux I find it easier to write with #scrivener whenever the muse or an idea hits. My biggest gripe now (which isn’t much of a gripe) is the lack of definitive file level version control.

@lazysupper I am using #scrivener fairly reliably among my iPad version, a win10 version, and #linux. There are a few annoying things like the iPabd version wanting to default to all text being bold italic but that isn’t bad.

Finally installed Scrivener on my Linux drive as i can't be bothered to reboot into Windows every time I use it. Some more annoying configurations still to be done but it works.
I also just realized that if I avoid the compiler, Scrivener is not pure evil.

Setting up a new Mac, the former MacBook I was defrauded into buying having finally definitively crashed after years of giving trouble. To my dismay, my favourite and most-used apps don’t work on it because it doesn’t use an Intel chip - Brave, VLC… I haven’t dared to open Scrivener yet - if that doesn’t work I’m fucked; everything I’m writing & all my research is on Scrivener projects

A quick bit of work this morning. Half an hour and I hit my minimum wordcount for the day. Also, a rather satisfying total number of words for this novella.

I’ve said before that everything I’ve ever thought it would be nice to do in Scrivener has already been a feature in the app.
That record remains intact today. I was wondering if it had a feature like iA Writer that could identify adjectives so I could access whether they could be deleted without making the text being edited harder to understand.
Yes! It’s called Linguistic Focus. See https://www.literatureandlatte.com/blog/scrivener-3-linguistic-focus
I LOVE Scrivener. It’s my favourite app ever. It’s not even close.

OK. my writing app now generates an ePub. I fixed some minor formatting issues and cleaned up the code.
Next up, generating a Scivener .scrivx file. Why? Just in case I need it.

Working on a Novella I started back in 2009-“The Clock Maker”-part parable, part children’s story. Using Scrivener to get it out of MS Word. Had about 10 chapters-(short)-but getting back into it. Has nothing to do directly with my blog. But hope to maybe someday release a chapter a week, for my “late week” post. #AmWriting #WritingCommunity

Have I mentioned recently how good Scrivener 3 for Mac is?
It's remarkable that the developer was an author who couldn't find writing software they liked, so they decided to learn Mac development and write their own.
Last time I checked, they hadn't written their novel. They did make the preferred writing software for a lot of people across many sectors.
