  1. **Megatrend #10** — Predictive and Preventative Healthcare:
“𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑖𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑟𝑎𝑐𝑙𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑒; 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑎𝑘𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑢𝑟𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑟𝑦.” — Futurist Jim Carroll

Medicine is shifting from reactive treatment to anticipatory care through continuous monitoring, AI diagnostics, and early intervention. We are moving from fixing people after they are sick to knowing what they will become sick with and acting accordingly. This creates fundamentally different business models across the health system and massive new business and societal opportunities.

The interesting thing about this trend is that while it involves so much promise, it also requires societies that have a mature relationship with science and the future. Given some of the recent events throughout the US, it is becoming obvious that other parts of the world will see greater advancements with this megatrend.

With that in mind, let's dive into the idea of "health reimagined.". Want the full report? There's a PDF here!

    pdf.jimcarroll.com/Megatrend10

What's underneath it all are four major trends that form the central nervous system of a proactive health ecosystem.

Artificial Intelligence: The engine of the proactive health revolution, enabling risk prediction, diagnostic enhancement, and personalized care at an unprecedented scale.

Genomics: The biological blueprint for personalized medicine, enabling a shift from population averages to truly individualized care.

Wearables & IoMT: The continuous monitoring network that captures real-time physiological and behavioral data in everyday life.

Data Interoperability: The connective tissue that enables seamless information flow across the entire health ecosystem.

    Will all of this happen?

There's a lot of pie-in-the-sky thinking that involves huge change with a massively complex system. Some societies are no longer mature enough to chase the opportunities.

But the trends, technology, and science identified above are evolving at an astonishing speed, and so clearly, this is a megatrend to watch.

  2. Megatrend **#4** - Digital Twins: "With a digital twin, we don't just envision the future; we build it, test it, and perfect it, long before it ever touches the real world." - Futurist Jim Carroll

It's one of the most unappreciated but most powerful megatrends with a huge amount of potential. And you might not know it, but it's already being used all around you.

What's it all about? Think of it this way - it involves the creation of virtual replicas that allow for unprecedented simulation, optimization, and predictive capability, involving things like supply chains, buildings, manufacturing processes, and even surgery. in essence, we can figure things out before committing to doing those things. In that way, we can solve previously impossible problems, by testing and simulating them first.

Imagine being able to test out a big, expensive idea without actually building anything. Or fixing a problem in your factory before it even happens. Sounds like science fiction, right? It's not. It's happening right now, and it's changing how businesses operate.

What exactly Is a digital twin?

Think of it as a super-detailed virtual copy of something real. This "something" could be almost anything: a factory machine, an entire building, a complex supply chain, or even, as the quote suggests, a human organ. This isn't just a static picture, though. This digital replica is constantly updated with data from its real-world counterpart. So, if a machine in your factory starts to heat up, its digital twin knows it too, in real-time.

Digital twin technology is already being used in supply chains, building management and design, manufacturing, and more.

What's next? Advancements with personalized healthcare. Digital twins of human organs could allow doctors to test out different treatments for a patient's specific condition virtually, predicting the best course of action without any risk to the patient. Entire cities could have digital twins, allowing urban planners to simulate the impact of new infrastructure projects, traffic patterns, and even climate change scenarios.

Why does it matter? Because it gives us unprecedented simulation, optimization, and predictive capability. It's like having a crystal ball for your business or your project. By understanding how things will behave before we make big investments or take significant risks.

    Oh, and one more thing.

This stuff is not theoretical. My oldest son is a UAV Practice Manager for a major firm and a GIS / geospatial mapping expert. In a proud dad moment, here's an article he just wrote on digital twin technology in the industry in which he works.

  3. "Show up!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

The future belongs to those who commit!

    So show up!

What brings about this line of thought today? Because I noticed a lot of visits to this post yesterday:

"To win in the race to the future, you need to decide to show up at the starting line.”

Read the post from February 2017. It's back when I was just starting this daily series years ago. Intrigued, I dug into my writing about the topic of showing up, and it's something I have covered a few times in the years since.

"If you are going to show up at the starting line for the future, make sure that you don't show up late!"

    "Show up early!"

"It's a better idea to create the future than to just show up for it."

"Define your future, don't just show up for it."

So why not just show up? I mean, today! Show up!

    Why does it matter?

Because the simple act of "showing up" is the most basic foundational principle for anyone who wants to succeed in a fast-changing world. It's a decision not just to participate in tomorrow, but a decision to engage with it, get involved, steer it, and direct it. It's the difference between being a spectator and being the architect of your own destiny.

I used Gemini to feed all of the above posts with a view to seeing what points I've raised about the importance of showing up. What I got was a list of 10 reasons why you must 'show up.' It's a good list!

    Read the post for more!

So what should you do today?

    Show up!

  4. "Define your future, don't just show up for it." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Do you make things happen, or watch things happen? Do you move forward with intention, or sit back as a passive observer? Do you take the initiative or wait for others to start you up?

Here's what I know - one of the most important things you can do is to stop simply showing up for whatever happens next. I fed 9 years' worth of my blog posts to Google Gemini and asked it, "What actions have I written about that show a proactive mindset?" It came back with the ideas below, and I must admit, these 25 "mindset hacks" are pretty powerful ideas designed to transform your approach to tomorrow, empowering you to build the future you envision - rather than simply letting it happen to you.

It all begins with a core philosophy: you are not a victim of circumstance but the designer of your own life. Every decision you make today is laying the foundation for tomorrow's reality. This transformation starts with one foundational mindset.

    1. The Architect Mindset: See yourself as the architect of your future, not a passive tenant just living in it. Your daily choices, habits, and actions are the materials and blueprints for the life you are actively building.

    25. The "Define, Don't Follow" Mindset. Don't wait for others to define your future for you. Be the one who asks the big questions, proposes the bold ideas, and takes the courageous first steps.

These are the two mindsets that should form your core philosophy: you are not a victim of circumstance but the designer of your destiny. Every decision you make today is laying the foundation for tomorrow's reality.

To get there, you need to adapt. Read the post for 23 more.

  5. "The future is an attitude!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

It's Monday morning. What are you waiting for?

With that being the case, why not have an image where I'm staring up into a teleportation portal? It's my future, and I get to imagine it!

You should do the same thing.

If you're feeling too comfortable right now with the future, you probably aren't thinking hard enough about the trends that will reshape your reality. You need to be scared; you need to be nervous; you need to have big ideas; you need to stretch your imagination; you need to be prepared to accept that everything is going to change—and most importantly, you need to be ready for action. After all, there might one day be teleportation portals - not in our life, but sometime!

That's why you need to think about this simple fact - the future isn't just. something you Watch - it's something you embody. The future is an attitude. While everyone else is busy tracking trends and technologies, they're missing something crucial: it's not just about knowing what's coming—it's about how you approach it, internalize it, and act on it.

The most successful people don't just observe the future; they have a mindset that embraces it and takes immediate steps to make it real. Anyone can read about emerging trends, but those who truly thrive in tomorrow's world cultivate specific attitudes that transform challenges into opportunities—and then act on them without hesitation. With that being the case, think about the mindsets that will help you stay ahead.

And most important - do something today - right now - Monday morning - that will get you moving! Here are 10 ideas you should think about right now - and 10 things you should commit to doing THIS MORNING.

    ----
Later this morning, Futurist Jim Carroll will have his winter tires swapped out. He’s preparing for a future that involves warmer weather.

  6. Daily Inspiration: "The speed of your decision-making should match the pace of the trends" - Futurist Jim Carroll

People and organizations are far too slow.

They defer decisions until it's too late.

    Is that you?

For a long time, I've seen too many clients and those trying to book me suffering from what I call 'aggressive indecision' - an organizational culture in which people simply can't take a step forward into tomorrow through the simple act of deciding what to do. The funny thing is, I first defined this problem way back in 2003l. Since then, even though the world has sped up, aggressive indecision has settled into far too many organizations, slowing them down.

This leads to an acceleration disconnect.

That's why more organizations- at least the ones that recognize they have a decision-making problem, are moving towards the side of 'corporate agility' - recognizing that decision-making is a key competency. Who would have thought?

I would have thought. I've been talking about the issue of indecision for years on stage - and organizations that manage to decide to bring me in, are usually those who ask me to talk about it! I suspect the others know that they are riddled with organizational sclerosis that comes with a slow structure, and so they settle into the warm-blanket excuse of deciding to do nothing. (Is that an actual decision?)

    What should you do?

Be relentless on speed! Some time ago, in one of these posts, I suggested organizations should create a position called the "Chief Momentum Officer" to help them keep up with the pace of change. Organizations today need rapid, well-informed decision-making - because adapting to the trends of today that define tomorrow means that tomorrow is going to be here sooner than you think!

Be proactive, make quick decisions, and adjust as you go, rather than waiting and risking being left behind.

After all - the future just doesn't belong to those who are fast.

It belongs to those who can get there fast!

  11. Daily Inspiration: "Believe that you can so that you know you will do!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Nothing great has ever been achieved through inaction! That's the thought that came to my mind while out for my afternoon walk yesterday, and spotted someone wearing this shirt. "She believed that she could, so she did."

I'm a sucker for inspirational ideas, and this phrase certainly caught my attention! After I got back home, I tried to remember the exact wording of the phrase, and so I had to use Google to make sure that I got it entirely right. And in a wonderful turn of coincidence, it turns out this particular shirt is sold in a small boutique clothing store not far from where I live!

Not only that, but it also involves a wonderful story of a mother / daughter team creating a retail store with active wear:

It's a wonderful story of initiative and innovation, and as someone who believes in acton-based empowerment, the phrase on the shirt immediately caught my eye! I can imagine that at moments along the way, the mom/daughter combination worked hard to ensure they didn't just talk about their plans to create a business - but acted upon it.

They believed they could do it - so they did!

Empowerment and action, wrapped together in a dream achieved. Powerful stuff! Hey - do this - give them an order! Buy the shirt here. It would make for a wonderful gift for that someone special in your life - or for yourself. Tell them Jim sent you! (I don't know these people, and just came to realize their store is very close to my home once I started searching for the origin of the phrase on the shirt!)

In my mind, once I saw the phrase, I began to turn the idea behind it into something I could use in my Daily Inspiration post - the result of which was "Believe that you can so that you know you will do!"

  12. Daily Inspiration: "Enthusiasm matters!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

You've got to bring enthusiasm to your day!

To every single moment, every single instance of time, every single interaction with others, and to every single decision that you make through the day.

    Enthusiasm matters!

That's a lesson that I've learned over time - sometimes the hard way.

When you spend your life out on a stage, with your most important work usually occurring first thing in the morning as the opening keynote, you've often marveled at your circumstance. You've got to be on fire, on point, on track, and the right side of your mind. You've got to be exciting, motivating, optimistic - and enthusiastic.

You've got to be lit - in the right way.

You've got to bring enthusiasm to your moment.

For a time, I lost my enthusiasm. I've been living this life of early morning keynotes for close to 35 years. That's a lot of time to have enthusiasm at the core of your soul! Around 10 years ago, after a long-term career that involved a constant stream of airports, hotels, taxis, stage checks, crowds, and more - my enthusiasm disappeared for a time. I burned out.

The impact showed in my work, deportment, attitude, and to be honest, personal health.

Then I found out how to bring my enthusiasm back.

    And it's never been better!

Always remember one simple fact above all - enthusiasm can be contagious, inspiring those around you.

I brought that enthusiasm to the stage in Chicago yesterday, emphasizing to this crowd of hard-working contractors and construction folks that AI wasn't going to replace them, but was going to change them - and that they would do better to adapt to it with enthusiasm and hope, rather than running from it with fear and worry.

In essence, sharing with them the idea that their enthusiasm matters!

  13. "Refuse to participate in the fear... choose to participate in the future." - Futurist Jim Carroll

I don't know about you, but if you are like me, you probably have a disquieting sense of unease about 2026.

Things aren't so great out there, are they?

It would seem that as insanity settles in, the quiet tragedy that is dementia is screaming out its impact at full throttle. Anyone who has seen a senior in this situation recognizes the signs of decline and knows how it goes. Not well.

The result is that all over the world, people are anxious, disturbed, worried, and fearful.

I was reading a post by Dolly Parton of all people yesterday - she recently arrived on Substack. Aside from being a brilliant musical artist, she's a philanthropist with stunning business insight. This line in her post drew my attention:

"My desire to do a thing is always greater than my fear of it."

That made me think! And then I looked up the essence of the quote, and variations of it show it to be a very common motivational phrase.

That being the case, I turned it around in my mind until I found a version that fits the trying times we find ourselves in today.

Here's the thing: it's an odd time to be thinking about the future when an entire nation seems eager to tear it down.

It's hard to focus on tomorrow when today is simply so weird.

It's tough to align with what's next when what is current is truly terrifying.

And yet, it's one of the most important ways to get through this moment of madness.

May your hope for tomorrow outweigh your fear of where we are right now.

    Welcome to 2026.

  14. "The gap between ambition and capability is an invitation to grow, not a limitation." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Someone asked me how you can keep up when things are changing so fast; how you can grow when there is so much to master; how you can succeed when the challenges can seem so big.

You do it by refusing to be cowed by the scope of what's ahead of you!

Right now, everyone is faced with the same issue - we have a lot of ambition, but given that there is so much new 'stuff'to master, our capabilities are often lacking. That can seem like a setback, a barrier, a wall that we can't break through - because we focus on our limits, not our capabilities.

Shifting our focus from limitations to opportunity is the key to breaking through.

I went back and talked ot myself - that is, I fed this idea to Google Gemini to see how we can focus on growth, not limits. It came back to me with this: Your 25-Point Plan to Bridge the Ambition-Capability Gap. There's a great little inspirational PDF that might be useful - it's in the post.

Step 1? Make speed your primary strategy - stop waiting, start doing!

Then reject perfectionism - our chase for doing something without a mistake is often the very thing that holds us back.

  15. Megatrend **#28** - The Chase for Authenticity: "Celebrate your flaws and highlight your mistakes - because one day soon, they will become your key currency for success!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

(Futurist Jim Carroll is writing a series on 30 Megatrends, which he first outlined in his book Dancing in the Rain: How Bold Leaders Grow Stronger in Stormy Times. The trends were shared in the book as a way of demonstrating that, despite any period of economic volatility, there is always long-term opportunity to be found. The book is now in print - learn more at dancing.jimcarroll.com)

As the market becomes saturated with AI-generated content, a significant shift is occurring where consumers and businesses increasingly value and pay a premium for verifiably human, live, and authentic experiences. This trend is reshaping strategies across communications, branding, and the workforce, making transparency and human-centric storytelling critical for building trust and maintaining a competitive advantage.

In the era of AI, being real might become a strategic advantage - meaning we're now in the weird situation in which it's certainly true that you have to master the skill of using AI, but not too much!

Overall, the trend involves what I call the Authenticity Premium. There's a full PDF here. which dives into it in a lot more depth.

    pdf.jimcarroll.com/Megatrend28

The core shift? We're entering a market where synthetic content is cheap, constant, and often indistinguishable from the real thing.

The very ubiquity of AI-enhanced messaging, visuals, and personas is creating fatigue. People are already getting tired of "AI slop." In that fatigue, a counterforce is emerging: people will seek signals that what they're seeing, buying, or trusting is genuine. With that being the case, the "authenticity gap" is becoming a competitive battleground - organizations, professions, and industries are already finding value in "being real."

What does all of this mean for you?

I am certainly a big advocate that we need to learn and master all the various AI tools that are coming our way - after all, you won't lose your job to an AI, but you might lose your job to someone using an AI!

That being the case, you just might be able to keep your job by ensuring that you've got an element of reality in all the work that you are doing with AI,
    because being real will matter!

    ---

Futurist Jim Carroll predicts the words 'real' and 'authentic' will see a sudden resurgence in just about everything people and companies do.

(Futurist Jim Carroll is writing a series on 30 Megatrends, which he first outlined in his book Dancing in the Rain: How Bold Leaders Grow Stronger in Stormy Times. This is a LONG post.

And yet, as one of the most consequential trends of our time, it deserves the attention it gets. You can't write about the biggest trends of the coming decade without acknowledging the massive reversal that is the US right now.

It pains me to write this, but it's pretty clear the United States is accelerating its retreat from global R&D leadership through unprecedented 2025 policy reversals and funding cuts in critical sectors like biomedical science, climate technology, and electric vehicles. In stark contrast, competitor nations are executing ambitious, state-directed industrial strategies to capture dominance in future technologies, fundamentally redrawing the global innovation map and challenging America's long-held technological hegemony.

What does it mean? Oh boy, this is a complicated post. I don't expect I have many followers in the 'other' camp, so let's go back to the post I wrote in 2017, which predicted, with stunning accuracy, where we find ourselves today. "What Comes Next with the Decline of an Empire" took my futurist's mind and applied it to what I saw happening. The original post can be found here. The updated PDF analysis of my predictions, found below, can be found here.

    pdf.jimcarroll.com/AmericasRet

Let's start this post - "America's Retreat" - by examining my 2017 predictions in the light of where we are today in 2025.

I fed each prediction to Google Gemini, asking it to reflect upon its accuracy. My original prediction is printed verbatim.

So overall, how did I do?

Sadly, all too well. 9 of the 10 predictions were entirely accurate. As Google notes, "Carroll's predictions about the shifting global landscape proved to be remarkably prescient."

So what are the implications of this type of retreat? Let's dig in further. I took a look at how this will accelerate the global innovation power shift.

  17. "It might be easier to deal with the hard stuff if you accept that the hard stuff is not going to be easy." - Futurist Jim Carroll

I was working yesterday afternoon on today's post, which will be Megatrend **#27**.

It's turned into an incredibly complicated post, and I have an early tee-time, so I decided to move it back to Friday! It is the summertime, after all! The post includes a pretty hard-hitting analysis of what I predicted in 2017, and where we find ourselves today. Let's just say, sadly, that I was stunningly accurate. More tomorrow.

So instead, I turned to my folder-inventory of inspiration quotes - the little thoughts that run through my head that I jot down - and came across this one. It seems to fit the times for many people who are going through challenges, and recognizes the fact that we can we can overwhelm ourselves when we are in the moment. I'm not sure of the context of the time that I jotted it down - I'm sure I was probably struggling with some complex moment of my own.

That said, the phrase is a good foundation for the reality of what happens when people try to get to the future without putting in the work, which relates to the core idea of the post I'll share tomorrow. While I've been writing the post I'll share tomorrow, I keep coming back to the idea that there's a seductive myth that keeps organizations stuck: the belief that the future will somehow be easier than the present. Those breakthrough innovations will simplify everything. That there's a silver bullet solution waiting around the corner. That waving a magic wand will simply bring back the success that once existed. All of this avoids the idea that you've got to put in the work.

There seems to be a core belief behind much of this that simply pretending the future doesn't exist will somehow bring back the magical success of the past. This couldn't be further from the truth. Building the future requires embracing complexity, hard work, and decisive action in the face of uncertainty.

That's what's missing in the current discourse.

Corporate research labs and government agencies used to be the core of most global R&D. Think Velcro and NASA. DuPont and Kevlar. Xerox PARC and the graphical user interface. Bell Labs and the transistor. DARPA and the internet. GE and the jet engine. These institutions were once the engines of breakthrough innovation, but that's no longer the case.

Yet one of the most significant and yet most underappreciated trends of our time has to do with the fact that the very nature of scientific discovery has shifted.

Let's start with the first trend - we are now in the midst of a historic shift in innovation finance, as capital moves from traditional corporate labs and venture capital firms to a diverse global ecosystem of crowdfunding platforms, sovereign wealth funds, and decentralized funding models. This fundamental change is democratizing access to funding and creating a more diverse innovation landscape, altering who gets to innovate, what gets funded, and where future economic power will reside.

Let's call it The Great R&D Capital Reallocation. Here's your PDF with more details on what I share below.

Where do we start? Let's go with my long-covered idea that involves 'building the unimaginable future':

"Companies that do not yet exist will build products not yet conceived using materials not yet invented with methodologies not yet in existence based on ideas not yet imagined."

Consider how things have changed by first thinking about the 'old' world of innovation. The pursuit of innovative ideas and discoveries was accessible primarily to a small group of founders and researchers operating within a few elite geographic corridors - Boston and San Francisco.

The new 21st-century model breaks down these geographic and demographic barriers

But there's also a heck of a lot more going on - read the full post!

  19. “Sometimes, the hardest brake to press is the one on your own ambition.” – Futurist Jim Carroll

In the world of leadership and innovation, we are wired for speed.

We obsess over acceleration, growth, and breaking barriers. But I am learning, in a very personal way, that the true test of discipline isn't how fast you can go—it's whether you have the discipline to go slow when every cell in your body screams "faster."

Because this is what you need to do when you have 'minor fractures' of the transverse processes on your spine, as can be seen in my CT scan after my incident in November.

Which means I am currently living with a bit of a physiological paradox.

I'm a guy who, at my age, is in pretty decent physical shape and always VERY active - and now the most important thing I can do is to be intelligently inactive.

Let's start here. I use all the modern tools on my phone to track my fitness and health. And I must admit, I'm in pretty good shape. My resting heart rate averages about 52 beats per minute. That's athlete territory. My heart rate recovery is at the high end of the scale, dropping 38 beats in the first minute after exercise. That's really good! Not only that, but according to Strava, I was in the top 0.4% of all users for hours active last year.

And get this - I lifted a cumulative 884,000 pounds and built a back strong enough to land in the top 20% of all users. Google Gemini tells me that it was probably the fact that the back extensions I do were my **#1** exercise that prevented my fall from being much worse, because I've built up so much muscle back there!

By every metric, my "engine" is primed, tuned, and ready to dominate.

But my "chassis" is currently broken.

Those three small fractures in my L1-L3 vertebrae don't care about my great VO2 Max. They don't care that I lifted a quarter-million pounds with my back muscles last year. They don't care that I spent a whopping 729 workouts last year, a combination of actual fitness routines, walking, and skiing.

They are fragile, healing, and demanding silence.

That means the most important thing I can do at this very moment is not to do much at all.

And for a guy who walks 7k to 15km a day, goes to the gym at least 5 times and week, skis for hours on a day during the winter - this is pretty overwhelming to try to do!
And this is where the leadership lesson hits home.

  24. Daily Inspiration: "Somehow, one way or the other, you will need to be ready to move on from this day!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

Hey, is there anything going on anywhere today?

Obsessed with the news? Hitting the refresh button? Reading polls?

Remember how I said that uncertainty and volatility cause many people to defer the making of decisions? It turns out I'm not the only one.

Yesterday, an article from Korn Ferry crossed my desk and got right into the specifics of what I keep talking about.

    The headline?

The Leadership Election ‘Excuse’ - US election uncertainty has been the reason many leaders have punted on big decisions. What happens after this week’s voting?

Look, one way or the other, there will be some certainty at some moment in time in the days to come with this uncertainty. You and I might be happy, or we might be crushed. I might be happy and you might be crushed. Or you might be happy and I might be desolate.

We don't know where we're going to be.

But somehow, some way, in some fashion, we'll have to pick up our pieces and move on.

Somehow, we'll get beyond today and tomorrow in due course.

Whatever happens, we need to move beyond this day.

In my case, regardless of what happens, I'll be moving myself forward, not back.

  25. "It's all fairway when you put in the work!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

If you golf, you know instantly when you hit a great tee shot. And as a speaker, you know instantly when one moment has suddenly changed some lives and an industry. As a golfer and speaker, I've had both moments.

Let's start with golf. In my last few rounds - including yesterday - I've been hitting 100% of fairways consistently. This is a good thing, but it's only happening because I've put in the work. My irons are also, as the vernacular goes, 'dialled in,' pretty consistently hitting within 10 or 20 percent of my target. Golfers obsess over stuff like this.

As a futurist and innovation speaker, I also obsess over the quality of my work.

If you golf, you will know that today is the opening round of the PGA of America golf tournament.

One of my career highlights was back in 2010 when I keynoted the annual general meeting of the PGA of America, the organization that hosts this tournament. Most folks don't understand who the real 'PGA' golfer is who would be a member of this association, and who were at my talk. The folks in the room were not the Rorys and Brysons and Xanders- it was the hard-working local club pro at your golf club. The one who teaches lessons and runs the pro shop, who joins you on Mens Day or Ladies Day, manages the golf course, and hires all the other professional golf staff. Some of them might have competed on tour as a PGA Tour player (a different association!), but many simply love the game of golf and have built a career out of successfully running your local golf club.

And back in 2010, unlike today, the industry they were working in was facing a reckoning.

And somehow or other, I was selected to be the opening keynote speaker for their AGM. My job was to come in and provide insight into the trends that might provide them with opportunities for growth in the future. And that was the entire focus of this AGM - the meeting tagline was 'Grow the Game.' Not only that, my marching orders were to help shake them out of their complacency and encourage them to make innovative thinking the core of what they do.

    I piped it.

  26. "Look for the visionaries who get it... not the skeptics who oppose it."  - Futurist Jim Carroll

I was thinking again about the state of affairs with trends and the future. It truly is astonishing how the script can flip in such a short time. Maybe I was onto something when I was sharing the Flintstones and Jetsons idea on stage.

So how do you ensure you are staying tuned to the right ideas, the important concepts, the trends that matter? Listen to the visionaries, those who have a close eye on the ground of tomorrow, an ear tuned to the trends. I asked Gemini what my blog posts suggest - what type of guidance have i shared over the years that helps us to think about this.

This is what you should do.

Lead from the future, not the present: Instead of focusing on current challenges, paint a clear picture of tomorrow and orient your team to move towards that vision.

Don't just follow trends, create them: Be a disruptor in your industry by anticipating what's next and building it before anyone else. This proactive approach sets you apart as a leader, not a follower.

Weaponize your curiosity: Cultivate a culture of relentless questioning. Reward yourself when you challenge assumptions and ask "what if," as this helps to eliminate stagnant thinking.

Lead with "decisive optimism": Acknowledge the challenges at hand, but consistently project confidence in your ability to overcome them. Your mindset is crucial in navigating uncertainty.

Embrace speed: Be quick and nimble. Adopt short-term plans and a mindset of continuous, iterative innovation to keep pace with a rapidly changing world.

Spend more time on possibilities than on roadblocks: Focus your energy on the opportunities and potential outcomes rather than dwelling on the setbacks and obstacles you encounter.

Don't just think outside the box - live there: Make unconventional thinking and living a core part of your personal and professional life, not just an occasional exercise.

To invent the future, be willing to throw away your past: You must be prepared to discard old methods and outdated successes to create something new and transformative.

Learn from your disappointments, don't hide from them: View your mistakes and letdowns as opportunities for growth. Use them as fuel for your next steps forward instead of allowing them to define you.

Learn from your challengers: Do not ignore your competitors. Instead, study them, learn from them, and get inspired by their strategies to fuel your own innovative thinking.

Above all, keep moving forward, not back!

Because, despite the oddness of our times, tomorrow knows where we are going!

  27. "You spend most of your time thinking about what you should be doing today. But you should be focused on what you need to do tomorrow!" - Futurist Jim Carroll

I was down in Dallas yesterday, speaking to a group of senior executives at Deloitte University. What a wonderful facility for the sharing of knowledge!

My topic was, as you might expect, a bit of a reality check on the potential role and use of AI in the corporate world. I'll have lots of great content to share over the days to come.

But suffice it to say, I don't only speak - I listen. I heard a rough idea of this phrase from one of the Deloitte executives, directly after my talk. (

I don't remember the exact words - just the idea behind the words!) He was talking to the group about how their roles and responsibilities were changing quickly in the era of fast-moving AI technologies - and his words floored me.
So many of the people I speak to about trends and tomorrow are relentlessly focused on today. They don't know how to shift the activity in their minds from the pressing moments of the current moment to the even more pressing moment of the next moment. The result is that when the future comes along - WHAM! It hits them like a ton of bricks.

"I didn't see that coming!" is the typical response.

Phrases like this catch my attention - they help me to frame the reality of what is going on in our world today.

It's also the type of phrase that can get you thinking. The next time you start your day with your typical list of 'to-do'items, ask yourself if you have enough on that list that has to do with tomorrow!

    Some good food for thought!

  30. "Strength always comes back the moment you begin to show up again." - Futurist Jim Carroll

Today is a big day as I FINALLY head back to the gym.

For ten weeks, my world has been defined by limitations.

Don't twist. Don't lift. Don't rush. When you live in "protection mode" with a spinal injury for that long, it’s easy to believe that you’ve lost your edge. You start to wonder if the engine has rusted over completely.

But data doesn't lie, and it doesn't care about my worries.

Before heading back to the gym today, I ran a diagnostic on my own recovery when I went into my home gym on Saturday. And I was impressed with the results.

Looking at the hard numbers from this "shakedown" home workout. I expected to see weakness; instead, I saw a lot of capacity. My body handled 60 reps of heavy pulling without a single complaint from my back. My heart rate recovery has hit a "safety floor" and refused to drop further. My VO2Max has actually started to go back into the upper-edge of "above-average" with all the indoor 'mall walking' I've been doing.

The charts proved that while I was busy healing, I wasn't decaying.

    My foundation is solid!

It might have to do with a screen I shared early into the story of this process - my biggest exercise for 2025, before slipping on ice and breaking 3 small bones on my back - was back extensions!

I've had long-running conversations in a chat with Google Gemini AI about my situation and recovery. One moment, it pointed out that what probably saved me from greater damage was all the muscle I built back there!

And my test workout shows that muscle never really left - it's just the bones that had a 'thing.'

    That realization shifts everything.

I am not walking into the gym today to "fix" a broken body.

I am walking in to reactivate a strong one.

One way to put it - the rust is just on the surface—the steel underneath is as solid as ever.

    Time to get to work.
