Can anyone recommend a #FOSS #swipe #keyboard for #Android?

(In 2009, the original proprietary Swype keyboard worked superbly on Nokia S60 devices with hundreds of megabytes of memory and CPUs in the hundreds of megahertz range. I've never found another swipe keyboard that worked as reliably.)

Stefan Voigt asked forum participants to raise hands of who uses Windows/macOS vs a FOSS OS and then iPhone vs Google Android vs non-Google Android/Sailfish/et al.

Enormous portions of macOS, iOS, and Android are FOSS. Let’s not discount that.

Let’s also not shame people for not using more ideologically pure products when Linux still doesn’t “just work” and there is no Apple-quality hardware with Apple Silicon performance alternative. Hopefully one day you can shame me.

CW: Google destroying what little good will they had left with Android

One thing this really makes me worried about is the #WindowsPhone and Metro fans. There are a lot of them that are like, "Android is really good if I have my tiles!" If the FOSS launchers can't run easily on it due to not verifying with Google and the Google Play ones get removed, no more launchers with tiles. For me, #Android is usable with tiles, but I am under no illusion that it's better than "ok" with Samsung's theme options.

Seems like at #fdroid we started to tackle a problem which I personally also encountered, but never found a good solution in my head: the distinction between F-Droid (the repository of FOSS apps) and F-Droid (the client for repositories of android apps). See https://gitlab.com/fdroid/admin/-/issues/469 (thanks @uniqx for bringing it up)

It basically the #NamingThingsIsHard problem, you always have in technology

I'm a person whose two main interests, art/design and #FOSS, converge in the form of being incredibly interested in FOSS creative software like #Krita, #Inkscape, #MyPaint, #Blender, #GodotEngine and #Kdenlive.

Most of my stack for personal and professional work is open source, running on #KDE Linux or #Android.

@[email protected] I don't do much #gaming (PC, console, mobile, not even board) but I used to love this open source puzzle game on #PalmOS called #Vexed. I wish someone would port it to #Android as a #FOSS project and distribute it on #FDroid. There are a few proprietary, old, and/or advertisement laden clones on the Google Play Store but... nah.
