@ipg Thinking about the design lineage of the Lumia 800, I guess it makes sense: the body is basically the #Nokia #N9 - which was all screen - so put the overlay on and keep the screen the same.

Bash running on Windows Phone (W10M, Nokia Lumia 650, interop unlocked)

I'd run screenfetch/neofetch but they have several issues preventing them from running here... still, check out the env vars for some system info (especially PROCESSOR_IDENTIFIER)!

Metro (and Windows Phone) is never going to return on a corporate scale the same way it was a decade ago if it ever did return because that's just how publicly-traded companies work. They have to change things and nothing can repeat exactly as it ever was before after too many years, even if it means it's for the worse. They have to keep those investors happy with shiny new stuff that may not even be good but works if you're big enough. It just has to be new.

Ok, don't get your hopes up because it's really disappointing, but I did some digging and found out Qt 5.8 had a really limited QtQuick Controls style for Windows Phone. All this is is just a thing that seems to redirect to the basic style, so like I said, disappointing. Same thing for the PC folder. The link goes to the folder for the Windows RT (the environment, not to be confused with Windows RT, the OS) styles.

Bad design: making you mess around with renaming and converting files with a special program or making you browse for files in a file manager to set up custom ringtones or sounds not provided by your phone if you want to not spend money on it (heaven forbid).
Good design: letting you drop them in a Ringtones folder and having them be picked up by the ringtone chooser.

#Kwin on #Wayland with Wayland clients is the smoothest UI experience I've ever had, except for #WindowsPhone . It's way faster than X. Before now I thought DWM.exe on destop #Windows was as smooth as a compositing desktop window manager server could be, but it's not. #Xwayland will have major issues on #Nvidia until next week, though. Driver 555 should fix the flickering since it adds explicit sync support, but there could be more stuff to do.

The best version of IE on desktop was always #InternetExplorer 8 to me, where it peaked. Only once #IE11 came out did it have competition in quality, and it was also the best version on #WindowsPhone. I enjoyed using IE on my phone except for the lack of a real #adblocker and not an ad-hider bookmarklet. #Microsoft lying about what browser it was in the user agent certainly helped.

Doing some checksum work to ensure the integrity of the files in the Windows Phone Emulator Images Archives (something I didn't do in the previous one with Windows Mobile).

Checksums for VHDs and BINs are available, in MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and CRC32 to verify the integrity of these large files (ranging from 77MB to 2.9GB).

Me liking #Android seems like blasphemy, but those two versions weren't bad and I liked the appearance of the Holo theme in 4.x and wish it stayed an option even though I never used it (makes sense, I enjoy #Metro).

Just as a head's up, #Microsoft is working on adding their "AI" chatbot thing to #Windows10, so be sure to uninstall it when it ends up on your system. #Cortana was far better than this, even the #Windows 10 version that wasn't nearly as good as the #WindowsPhone 8.1 version was better.

The US v. Google trial goes back to 2007. Good. It would be nice if it also got into how Google saw Windows Phone as a threat to Android and kneecapped it by refusing to port any of its apps besides Google Search.

#Android is by far the worst-designed mobile OS. At least #Windows10Mobile had some redeeming qualities kept from #WindowsPhone (the best-designed OS) like #LiveTiles, and even my feature phone OS did just fine getting me text messages, calls, voicemails, and remaining minutes/texts. But who decided that it would be a good idea to put a color tint on backgrounds, even when they're black and running on an (AM)OLED display?!
