It's time for our Catch of the Day! Tonight, we have a guest in our logs that takes us right back to the era when phones were just for calling, and smart organizers were known as "PDAs" (Personal Digital Assistants).

Just before 6:30 PM, this exotic creature showed up in the frog pond:

🏆 EudoraWeb 2.1 on Palm OS

Why this is so awesome:
Long before the iPhone or modern Android devices, Palm OS was the undisputed king of mobile productivity. You operated these devices with a small plastic stylus on resistive touchscreens (often still monochrome!).

The name Eudora probably rings a bell for many retro geeks anyway: it was the standard email client of the 90s. But what many have forgotten is that they also released a specially adapted, tiny web browser for Palm PDAs called EudoraWeb.

The fact that someone dusted off their old Palm device today, hooked it up to the net via a serial cable, infrared, or an early Wi-Fi card, and tapped out a FrogFind search with their stylus is just pure magic. This is exactly the kind of tiny display and low-power CPU that FrogFind was built for!

So I rocked a Zire 72 then a T|X back in the day. The T|X was the first device I owned personally with Wi-Fi. I remember walking around the streets in my neighborhood looking for open networks.

I can’t believe it! Goal achieved.

The Arteck is a new easily obtainable & affordable #Keyboard. It connects to every persistent #WindowsMobile #PocketPC device that I tested! It’s driverless and the layout is almost perfect for it’s size. It’s also backlit!

I’m confused though. It’s #Bluetooth LE 5.1 and should not work with these Bluetooth Classic 1.2 and 2.0 devices. Whats going on here?

Lets crack it open and take a look.

Now the best for last! The Arteck HB030B #Bluetooth #Keyboard.

This is a cheap keyboard that you can still find new. It has a chiclet design, is backlit & doesn’t compromise much on the layout other than messing a bit with the Alt, Ctrl and Windows key button arrangement.

Amazingly this Bluetooth 5.1 keyboard connects to all of my iPaqs (111, 210, HX2495, HX2795b) & my #Dell Axim X51V using Passkey 1234!

This is the #Ipad Kensington Key Folio Pro K39357US.

This #Bluetooth chiclet #Keyboard is fantastic! It is sleek, responsive and feels modern. It also has a decent layout and doesn’t forget the right shift key like the previous Key Folio.

Once again it effortlessly connected to all of my iPaqs (111, 210, HX2495, HX2795b) and surprisingly also connected to my #Dell Axim X51V using Passkey 1234!

Das ist eine sehr coole #Podcast-Episode über die #PDA-Zeit mit #Palm, Apple #Newton und Co.

Ich war auch begeisterter Palm-Nutzer und weine vielen Features von #DateBk6 nach, die ich seither nirgendwo mehr gesehen habe (außer mein Nachbau davon mit #Orgmode).

Für Nostalgiker sehr empfehlenswert. 👍

Edit: mein Favorit damals: Palm #Tungsten T3 mit DateBk6 (extra gekauft). Das war damals wirklich 🤯 gut.

Not anymore, after I got an iRiver Story in 2010.

Your question triggered a bit of nostalgia and I'll try to remember what I used:

Hardware:
I read on #PalmOS devices for about 8 years, starting with a Palm IIIxe. The last device I used was a Sony #Clié SL10, "high-res" 320x320 grayscale display and very compact. I also had a Clié N770c, but preferred the SL10 for reading.

Ich habe auch schon vieles getestet und installiert. Das mit den Datenbanken bei einigen Programmen war nicht einfach, weil sie manchmal anders genannt wurden als das eigentliche Programm, aber im Groben und Ganzen läuft es jetzt.

@[email protected] I don't do much #gaming (PC, console, mobile, not even board) but I used to love this open source puzzle game on #PalmOS called #Vexed. I wish someone would port it to #Android as a #FOSS project and distribute it on #FDroid. There are a few proprietary, old, and/or advertisement laden clones on the Google Play Store but... nah.
