However the game remains playable even without these, and that makes it a marvel of game design. It's pssible to finish the game with the first character alone (Zangetsu) but doing so turns the difficulty all the way to 11.
Your character has a relatively modest jump and reach, which make things quite a bit harder. You don't have other characters to use as bullet sponges so you need to pace your health more carefully. However none of the shortcuts through the levels are available and you're forced to take the longest and more dangerous route every time. On top of this I realized only at the sixth level that the power-ups scattered through the levels are also inaccessible. The result is a brutal quest through 8 levels and some really tough bosses which is as hard as the hardest arcade games of yore. All of this in a game that in casual mode remains very accessible. Truly a small marvel.
I miss the old internet. This version of everything really makes me use it less and less. When even a favorite blog makes you run the gauntlet to verify that I'm human it makes me want to throw in the towel somedays.

Initial thoughts on my first experience with the new NSF Data Management Plan web form:
1. Releasing this before the directorates have had a chance to populate the fields makes it confusing (drop down menus with nothing to select) and makes it feel like it was released before it was ready
2. As a reviewer I'd much prefer a free-form 2 pages with required sections. That actually provides information about an applicants knowledge and ability to satisfy the plan
3. Figuring out how to put this information into the form is substantially more work (admin burden) than writing a 2-pager
4. The only reason I can see for this system is something about compliance, and I'd love to see more meaningful expectations of following through on Data Management Plans, but it seems like without explicit plans for enforcement that this more complex, less informative, form won't accomplish that

Hmm, so I used to be a serious Evernote user, then that went to crap, and I moved everything to Apple Notes - that was pretty good, but having a Linux desktop makes that unuseable (the web interface to notes is terrible).
I went in on Joplin, and for the most part it's pretty good. Sync, opensource, no enshittification.
But the native Linux app is... not good. I am working hard not to automatically check out the source tree and go "CLAUDE MAKE THIS BETTER"

I’ve just updated my iPhone mini and iPad from iOS 18 to 27. The transparency is largely mitigated but the bouncy animations are still a problem. They make the UI feel slow, the constant shape changing makes it harder to follow the controls and movement happening all over the screen is distracting and confusing. Turning on reduce motion doesn’t hit the spot for me. The problem for me isn’t motion, it’s motion that is dislocated from interaction.
