EDIT: it turns out its used for jury selection too so my critique should be adjusted to make a much deeper critique at the justice system. Brifely the law is written by capitalist hegemony so its all illegitimate
In the UK you can be fined up to £1000 for not responding to the annual electoral register canvass
This means that I receive a letter every year telling me to register to vote and if I don't respond I'm breaking the law.
I consider this compelled speech it is my political belief that electoral politics should be abolished in favour of anarchist direct democracy.
Electoral politics works *so* well that they have to threaten you with kidnapping (the result of not paying the fine) if you don't participate

@Scoll You don't have to tell me anything personal about them: someone not understanding that electoralism is a waste of time is an invitation to explain with 100+ years of historical socialist activity why its a waste of time. The system kills so many all the time and now its threatening to stand by while cliamte change destroys our ability to grow food there is no luxury of time to let people independantly rediscover revolutionary theory

@Scoll You should read about chomskys 5 media filters if you havent alr for a framework for how capitalists distort public perception of the far left through the media - of course its a little different today with social media but our news media is still dominated by corporate entities.
The criticism in the video goes beyond detailing how the public is mislead into voting against their interests but goes further to state that no matter who holds the reins the state is designed to protect capitalists class dictatorship
I would add that power in general is about more than who holds a title - power comes from power structures which are upheld by a web of authority, if you come in guns blazing and say "I'm the president now so we're going to make housing free and abolish animal ag" etc then you dont suddenly have the power to enact your will just because a piece of paper says you're in charge - you don't reform the system the system reforms you, and either you compromise with the existing power structure by never meaningfully challenging their power or you will be kicked out

Only direct action will stop the capitalist class banning vpns etc. As I've outlined before we don't live in a democracy, its a facade of a democracy to manufacture consent for "rule of law" when the laws are all decided by capitalists
This is how I think the capitalist class will respond to their favoured party losing power: they will attempt to subvert, corrupt or depose the incoming, or else they will hold the economy hostage until the new power bends the knee.
So if we can't rely on procedural means to stop mass surveillance, then we need to force their hand by making it too costly. Toe every line possible, incite police crackdown costing too much money. When you toe the line the police are in a lose lose situation, they can either do nothing and look weak inspiring more resistance, or they can oppress harder and look tyrannical, costing more money and inspiring more resistance.

@b9AcE I live in a 2 party system, all 3 of the top parties will be supporting this. Voting 4th or 5th party to oppose this would usually be considered a waste of a vote. But even if a party rejects this, capitalists will push harder, they will hold the economy hostage until they get everything they want. Power doesn't come from holding an office it comes from material forces and the capitalists control all the wealth.
If an elected party gains enough material power to overcome the power of capitalists then we have created totalitarian scaffolding and as an anarchist I don't want that either

The democrats are incapable of stopping fascism and it is a fools errand to make sure the dems win every election, even if they won this one they would have lost the next one or the one after that. There is no such thing as a political party winning every election.
Or maybe the democrats actually completely change and gain the power necessary to defeat fascism, then they would have also gained the exact same tools to suppress anarchism. All the while the dems would be bombing the middle east holocausting non-humans and accelerating climate change towards the extinction of all known sentient life in the universe.

You can choose who to vote for but you can't choose who's on the ballot: that is decided by material conditions. Running for office is absurdly expensive, you either have to come from the capitalist class or be funded by the capitalist class

The people don't do the legislation, legislation leans towards policies favored by the rich.
The democrats laid the foundation for fascism, they approved the ICE funding, obama ramped up the war on drugs and anti immigration efforts, so much so that he was nicknamed the "deporter in chief".
It is a double act, one side sets them up the other knocks them down and all the while more rights are taken away from the proletariat and more wealth is funneled to the capitalist class.
The centre left party winning every election from now until the end of time is not a workable anti fascist praxis. We need to create conditions such that it is impossible for fascists to take over, we need to abolish the state.

If you think that voting harder prevents fascism then you don't understand fascism.
Fascism is about a collaboration between the political class and the capitalist class, which is why the "left" politicians seem incompetent to prevent fascism: bc robust antifascist measures are too left wing for them and when push comes to shove they'd rather fascism than socialism

Also the state is fundamentally counter revolutionary, the more powerful it gets at preventing fascism the more powerful it gets at maintaining capitalism and colonialism

Maybe if every tax paying citizen was given a breakdown of government spending as a percentage of their paid taxes like they do in australia[1] maybe politicians wouldnt be able to lie and misrepresent public spending as much
Oh well I dont support the states existence anyway so in a sense I dont care what they do.

The BBC has onion links for those that need to keep their web activity hidden from network administrators and ISPs, its more effective than vpns (vpns are a middle person that can see what you're looking at, no one in the tor network is supposed to see what sites you visit) and tor is free unlike vpns
