"Shaun Maguire wanted New York City voters to know about the dangers ahead. On July 4, the general partner at the industry-leading Sequoia Capital posted on X that Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani was a secret "Islamist" who "comes from a culture of lying." Mamdani, he added, "has basically advocated for the destruction of America."
The comments were not unusual for Maguire, a self-described moderate former Hillary Clinton voter who has become a full-throated MAGA convert, defender of Israel, and one of the most provocative right-wing political commentators among an increasingly right-leaning group of venture capitalists and founders. This time, though, the social-media dam broke, bringing a flood of critical comments from startup founders and tech workers. Hundreds of Muslim founders signed an open letter asking that Sequoia apologize and discipline Maguire. At the Allen & Co. Sun Valley conference, the annual "summer camp for billionaires" in Idaho, Sequoia's managing partner Roelof Botha was hounded with questions about Maguire, The New York Times reported. Several other people I spoke to — including Maguire's friends, colleagues, and executives from a Sequoia limited partner and a Sequoia portfolio company — wondered what might happen to tech's new leading controversialist.
More broadly, the ongoing debate over Maguire's posts reflects a tech business riven by faultlines over the industry's positions on Israel's war in Gaza. Those disagreements, which have been tamped down by some Muslim tech workers' fear of losing their jobs or funding, are now exploding into the open."

In 1967, the State of Israel attacked Egypt. Already, it was referred to as a ‘pre-emptive strike’. Since then, the Jewish State has occupied Sinai, the Golan Heights, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza. (see map)
For three centuries, this war has been the only one to bear the name of its duration: the ‘Six-Day War’, a name that glorifies the military impact (of the Zionist Sparta).
In 1968, several French intellectuals drew a link between the Six-Day War, anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) is an organisation that supports the Israeli government and fights against diversity. In 1974, Arnold Forster and Benjamin Epstein of the ADL published a book entitled ‘The New anti-Semitism’, expressing their concerns about :
- an indifference to the fears of ‘the Jewish people’,
- apathy in dealing with prejudice against Jews,
- an inability to understand the importance of Israel for the survival of the ‘Jewish people’ (in their view).
Hence controversy in the United States (among professionals in public debate).

Abstract
This article explores how a ‘regime of truth’ about Muslim youth has been historically produced through the underlying logic of Australia’s counter-terrorism and countering violent extremism (CVE) policies and practices. The article is divided into three parts. I first look at how the pre-emptive logic of countering the ‘becoming terrorist’ constitutes young Australian Muslims. I then interrogate the way CVE has constituted Australian Muslims as a self-contained space, a governmental population divided between ‘moderates’ and ‘extremists’. Lastly, I discuss how CVE operates as a technique of governmentality in the way that it deploys grants programs to foster the ‘conduct of conduct’ of Muslim subjects within this self-contained racialised space. I argue that the central organising logic of community partnership has been the targeting of the conditions of emergence of ‘extremist’ Muslim subjects, thereby guaranteeing the racialisation of Muslim youth as always at-risk, marked with the ‘potential’ of ‘becoming terrorist’.https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/1440783319842666 @sociology
