Can permanent daylight saving time bill in U.S. Congress renew the push?

So the House just passed a bill to make Daylight Savings Time permanent in the US. If it passes the Senate, it will happen. I'll be interested to see how happy people are the first winter as they send their children off to school in the dark before going to work in the dark each morning.

I'm old enough to remember the last time the US did this (in the 1970s). It was supposed to be for two years to save energy, but people hated it so much they ended it early.

I guess those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. (George Santayana was pretty clever.)

I’m old. Many members of Congress are old as well. Why is it that I remember the 1970s energy crisis and Nixon’s “permanent switch” to #daylightsavingstime that was repealed by Ford because people hated it?

(#Saskatchewan doesn't use #DaylightSavingsTime either, but so far as I know they didn't stop because they never used it in the first place. Would be happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.)
