Chris :nixos: :GrapheneOS:

  1. @jimsalter finally a face with the voice ✌️😏 🫶

  2. @claudiom : none (yet, but those Mac's are **very** appealing) 🦾🤖

  3. @WendyDLN & @CubicleNate after hearing the latest (episode 178 or LOL82) I was surprised that you use for remote desktop, but have you considered

It is very similar in Remmina, but you host it on your server and can connect to all remote desktops from your browser, even tablets and phones.

    Maybe worth considering? 💪😎

  4. @technotim how many cores does it have? I find it hard to believe it only has 6 cores (C0-C5) from what I've gathered from your screenshots 🤔

  5. @WendyDLN the only thing I know is that a Dutch store sells their own brand and you only buy what you actually use, but I'm certain that isn't of any help! 😔

I've did share your cry for help in hopes *someone* is able to help 🙏

  6. @Vivaldi on my phone (using an Firefox fork, Mull) I have more than 100! But on my desktop I've recently installed Librewolf on NixOS, and even though I've set it to remember the session, it clears the session if I close it normally (if it closes because the system reboots, then I can restore the session).

However I think I quite like that feature. Read something if you open it in that session, otherwise it probably wasn't important ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  7. @WendyDLN I'm listening to upload 164 ( 67 ) and I can report the chapters are working ✌️😎

  8. @frederic @mmeier
    (Fuck Our Lives) 🥵🥵🥵

Though it'll *only* be 33°C in my country regionally 🙃

  9. So my first migration seemed to have gone smoothly. After installing 12 on the system drive I could just mount my old Btrfs and the file/directory structure I had put on it was still intact ✌️🤠

  10. @fedora @major I didn't even know gp2/gp3 was a thing, but it is the storage technology for Cloud providers, like AWS.

  11. @fedora

Maybe a silly question, but why doesn't use Btrfs? Sounds like the perfect candidate for it?

  12. @cukie
I was also wondering when it'll drop in the repo @fedora?
    @BuddiesOfBudgie

  13. Just out of pure curiousity, but does anyone in their have a or for short? I am contemplating setting one up with a few or low wattage machines, with all set-up instead of on a single machine.

What are you thoughts about that scenario community?

  14. question; after figuring out why I couldn't connect to my server the other day I'm looking for a solution. Like a responsible person I've installed my server with but that means manual intervention after a reboot (namely entering the decryption password).

Automatic updating also means regular reboots, but I don't want to deal with the password. I've heard a might be a solution, but I hope there are other solutions available?

  15. I decided to install my on my

I wanted to install the one based on but it failed, so going with for now.

    ✌️😅

  16. @j3rn that's probably true. I tried out -22 last night, whilst being perfectly happy with

But only the touchscreen pointer worked, so I'm probably not going to invest more time in that ✌️😂

But I'm personally looking to get the best usage out of my hardware, so the less RAM & CPU apps use, the better. Considering the have the features I want, naturally.

  17. Does The Tesla Semi Make Any Sense?

Is the Tesla Semi more marketing madness, or does the math check out?

    youtube.com/watch?v=Uv44W7xa4IU

  18. @giantspacesquid that would be an awesome case for a

Something along the lines of a but for the Mycroft/PiCroft :blobfoxhyper:
    @mike

  19. The Smart Home Show: Episode 211 - Smart Home Fundamentals

    Episode webpage: smarthome.fm/

    Media file: media.knit.audio/a/f/33/the-sm

    Very good introduction podcast about the " / / " world ✌️😎

  20. @cooper not yet, but I was considering for synchronisation and something like for categorising and sharing; they have a available for (docs.photoprism.app/getting-st)

Apparently this¹ also works with it, but I was considering Syncthing Lite (apparently hasn't been updated in 3.5 years 😔).

Alternatively I would run Nextcloud and their clients for photo syncing and sharing ✌️🙃

    1) photosync-app.com/home.html

  21. @mike
I'm another user that couldn't scan the QR code 😔

And I can just import an image into and scan it for qr codes ✌️😎
    @IslandUsurper @joel @[email protected]

  22. @ebn
I'm glad you've found a [new/old] home, and it's good you can tell us why you didn't like . And thank you for sharing that and root@blank link, it is a fascinating way to run your operating system! ✌️😎

  23. Upside is that most tiles are still as they were 🙃

Downside is that I either have to use WiFi to connect my server with the network (and I have to add a WiFi card/USB stick for that) or have to open up the ground myself and dig the tube + cable in myself.

I have been in the groundwork myself, but adding WiFi will make the server more flexibel in its placement 🤔

    - 2/2

  24. So yesterday when I got home I wasn't greeted by what I was expecting; I saw the selection screen instead of results of the scans. I still have to ask the Mrs if she knew anything happened with the power.

Oh and another setback; we are getting fiber I was hoping that when *they* had the ground open they could also place a tube between my house and my shed. They used a machine to push the fiber from the street to my door ✌️😬

    - 1/2

  25. So another update from me, because sometimes things go slow. I've booted a live image and the program is running a check of my four 4TB drives (been running for 86 hrs and done 84% I think the last time I checked).

I did change my decision to use & . After deliberate consideration I've switched my choice to with .
    — no longer NILFS2 because it doesn't have compression and ZFS even includes the kitchen sink
    - 1/2

  26. — and RAID10 instead of RAID6 because I think the probability of 2 drives in the same vdev failing right after eachother is too low and the in a vdev is a lot quicker and less wearing of the other drive.

Also read/write performance will be a lot better with both decisions

    - 2/2

  27. So after more reading tonight for my *BACKUP* server (that will be its main purpose) I have decided to:
    — create a 4 disk array with
    — have it use as its file system (with continual and manual )
    — use @nixos_org as OS

I understand it have a performance hit, from both these decisions, but this will be the biggest part in my backup strategy.
    TBD:
    — filesystem for OS on SSD :thaenkin:

  28. have build in support, to that'll probably be handled by either or , but it also doesn't do checksumming like / so you don't know if/when you get bit-rot 🤔

Some articles mention supports booting from NILFS2, but an other (possibly a bug at the time) did not but provided a workaround.

All ideas on how to improve my setup are very welcome - 2/2

  29. I should really make an effort to journal and "blog" about the things I am reading in my spare time, so here is "Day 2" in a nutshell:

I read how works, but most of the articles I've read are almost a decade old. It isn't the fastest filesystem around, but for my backup server it is actually quite ideal with its continual (and convertible to )

Everything I've read say that it is actually a quite simple ; it just stores files! It doesn't - 1/2

  30. Who remembers the early days of @elementary? Well I do and I'm recreating their old top right corner version of their as others have done with (maketecheasier.com/wingpanel-s) but I'm doing it in with as the 😎👍

Yes, I'm doing thing very Linux-y but combining what I think are the best solutions. I wanted a and desktop with drag-n-drop window snapping (Vista's Aero Snap)

  31. The only reason I can say I'm free of is because the parent company of is renamed to .

So my quest to is ongoing because I still want to and ban as much out of my life as possible (hopefully enough to account while only accessing some of their services without one).

    I can't think of any other I'm reliant on, so that's a win I guess? 🥳🎉🎊🎂

  32. @[email protected] don't you just love those popping colours? When Windows Still Was Any Good 🥰

  33. So after talking with @sakkara & @sotolf I decided I wanted to try out :void: and after playing with :alpine: I discovered which I quite liked in its minimalism. Then I discovered actually combined Void+Lumina+ZFS (and I personally believe everyone should use a COW filesystem). But its latest release is from Valentine's Day 2020! Could I install it and update it to use the more updated packages from Void? :thaenkin:

  34. I'd like to get a hardware authentication device (aka YubiKey) for my birthday, which would be the most secure and the most ?

Would that be the ? Any other suggestions? The have to ship to Europe (Netherlands specifically) 🦾😎

  35. on :
Retried with KVM/Qemu image and actually added the display section to xorg.conf. Now the base system && seem to work, hurray!

  36. Base system install works, but KDE just doesn't want to boot; in both VirtualBox and KVM 😖

I've gone through all prerequisites and installation of this page: wiki.alpinelinux.org/wiki/KDE

  37. Does anyone know what the 'String not found' entry is about in ?

  38. So yesterday I got exactly 200M in by pure luck, which was the second from last named

So today I made an attempt for the achievement, which was a 2KM run without touching coins, scientists or tokens. And that was pretty easy when I switched back to normal mode, after unlocking all gifts from the event. Just 2 attempts needed for that 😎👍

  39. Phew, it's been a little ordeal but a labour of love.

Proud to present the next iteration of my which should be more robust and less annoying in daily use. Only 'problem' is when the screen becomes locked and your keyboard is disabled (no easy way to enter your password) but rebooting should be a workaround for that.

It should be a desktop agnostic way to your screen and mice by method of and . Please try it and report bugs!

    gitlab.com/RyuKurisu/autorotat

  40. Hey everyone, I've asked some help about about in based distributions, like . I did find a gsetting for based distributions, but that doesn't help me I'm afraid.

If you know the answer, please help me. please chime in as well 🙏

  41. @[email protected] I recently learned of which made me BSD-curious again. Maybe if the auto rotation works like, if not even better, than on Ubuntu Budgie I might run it on my main machine? 🤔

  42. choosing between getting a Raspberry Pi 3B+ or a new case for an ASUS AT3IONT-I DELUXE.

I did a bit of shopping and found a tiny ITX case for around the same price as a new Raspberry Pi 3B+. The Asus is more performant according to Geekbench 4, but only a tiny amount. But I have no idea how much energy it uses. Its main task will be to serve as an Kodi box, and other odd ends I might want to run continuously. Other SBCs are fine if they fit a Raspberry Pi case.

  43. With a €/$500 budget, what kind of phone would you recommend to me? I am accustomed to Android, but, not brand loyal. I do want a lot of storage for podcasts, offline maps and other.  support would also be nice, but not limited to Android (Sailfish OS/UBports etc.). I'm currently eyeing the but it lacks custom ROM support AFAIK. 3 for it's repairability is also on the list. So if anyone has suggested, please do

  44. Remember that logo post I got so many people reacting to? According to the latest (f-droid.org/en/2018/08/16/twif) @[email protected] are all proposals in and they are ready to vote for the best design! 😎

  45. CW: About time Samsung...

I wasn't expecting for Android Oreo to arrive for this phone anymore, seeing that they even failed to update to Android 7.1. But apparently Samsung is finally delivering. (but 8.0 or 8.1 we'll have to wait to see)
