Just got my first ever #Porkbun phishing email! I made sure to send a screenshot to the Porkbun team to let them know they've made it to the big time and congratulated them on that.
It's gotta be flattering when your user base is big enough to make scammers pay attention. 😆 🐷

I'll be talking about the fun of RAG, including the human side, at 2PM in the Lil' Tex room at Texas Linux Fest!

-
Can't wait to talk about RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) at Texas Linux Fest tomorrow!

I finished "The Lords of Easy Money" when I couldn't sleep last night.
If you've wanted to better understand how the US Federal Reserve works from the inside, this is your book. It's equal parts unreal and enraging.

We've seen using #docling a lot at work lately to parse all kinds of documents in various formats. It's handy for converting them into a common JSON document.
-
I find myself using quadlets more and more often, but the networking threw me for a loop when I first moved over from docker-compose.
Here's a quick post about getting your quadlets onto the same networks:

What a career Dan Walsh has had! #devconfus #devconf

And the last talk of #devconfus is about to begin. We will say farewell to Dan Walsh and wish him a very happy retirement. 🫂

Learning about the P2CODE and how they are using kuboot to combine kubernetes and bootc for image mode deployments!
-
Wow, #docling added support for Arabic and can handle complex documents with text that goes right to left!
-
The docling document pipeline:
-
Context is important! Vegetative electron microscopy does not exist! 😂
Another reason to use Docling for your documents. RAG is another garbage in, garbage out situation.
-
Time to talk about Docling! It has the cutest project mascot on the planet. #devconf_us #devconf #ai #python
-
Listening to @davdunc talk about Fedora and image mode using bootc!

Here's a recap of my #devconf_us talk from yesterday along with a link to slides and the recording:

Someone reminded me today that I promised someone a post about automatic container updates with quadlets and podman. Well, here you go!

One big challenge where AI helps is to make mental health more accessible to a rural population that speaks a lot of different languages. #devconfus

How can AI be used to help you achieve zen and improve your mental health? #devconfus
There is a massive shortage of mental health professionals in India.

Post quantum cryptography is such an interesting topic. #devconfus

There's a whole lot more about KV caching in deployments of multiple LLMs that I didn't know about. 👀 #devconfus
You have to route the requests to the node where the best cache lives to answer the question quickly.

Every 10K tokens can be on gigabyte of RAM in the KB cache. #devconfus

Wow, Nike (NKE) ran all the way back to its COVID low and caught a bounce. Always remember to zoom out!

Did a little digging into AMZN's stock chart today. It does look like traders are waiting on _something_ before making their move.
Could it be earnings from #TSM? Maybe updates on tariffs?
Who knows. Always have a plan when it breaks in either direction.

I've got my eye on ALAB today. Fundamentals look quite good and something's been going on in the back half of June as price remains very tight but volume exploded for multiple days.
Not financial advice! This just looks interesting.

I'm back to writing posts about the markets again. I switched from Ghost to Hugo to simplify things a bit.
Today's post is about RKLB, or Rocket Lab. They're an aerospace service provider with some interesting plans.
Here's a post with some analysis:

One of the best channels on the slack at work is one called #YELLING. You can talk about almost anything so long as YOUR CAPS LOCK IS ON.

Ooh a new Fiesta medal from UTSA! It spins!

I finally cobbled all my thoughts about retrieval-augmented generation, or RAG, together in one place. So many people claimed it was so easy, but it's not.
This post is a high level overview of my lessons learned and some suggestions for you if you go down this path. 🧗♂️

Finally got back to writing about nerdy stuff in the stock market. I love messing around with data. 🤓

The Super Micro story is getting straight up *weird*, even by stock market standards:
Super Micro Accounting Issues Complicated by Web of Family Ties | Barron's

Supermicro's accounting issues are giving me that Enron/MCI Worldcom feel. They're supposed to report *something* tomorrow if they have any accountants left.

Repairing 4Runner skid plate bolts
I don't think I've written about car repairs on the blog yet, but there's never been a better time than the present! 🔧

Revisiting PYPL in September 2024
It's been four months since I looked at PYPL and the consolidation level it was building. What has changed since then? 🤔
-
I'm bummed out to see that GIAC stopped doing the Gold certifications in 2022.
Back then, you could train for the certification, pass the test, and then level up by writing a peer-reviewed paper on a topic related to your certification.
It brought a lot of recognition to the people getting the certs and had an added bonus of extending your certificate's duration.

This is a really good deep dive into why Intel has fallen behind its competitors and what its potential future might be:

I talked a lot about meeting hacks in my #TXLF talk this year, but I figured it was time to write a new post with some extra things:

Did traders know about the Crowdstrike issues early?
Crowdstrike's stock was giving some hints about a weakening rally before the worldwide incident. Traders were getting out in a hurry. How do we find these events in the future? 🤔

Made it to #Yankee Stadium! ⚾
Subway car was "butts to nuts" on the way over (as my ex-Army neighbor says).

@nocoursewalks Thank you!
Yes, #fintwit is full of people just trying to get clicks and likes. Controversial stuff sells, so being bearish during a rally or bullish during a correction generates a ton of clicks.
I'm just trying to be honest and share what I learn! 😉

Moved my wife's phone over to US Mobile over the weekend, and wow, that was the most painless porting process I've ever experienced.
End-to-end was maybe 15 minutes and *everything* worked perfectly. Verizon's speed and coverage is pretty good where I live.
I have a signup link that gives us both some credits if you sign up. Just let me know if you want it!

Another look at #PYPL for May 3
What's changed with PYPL after earnings and a retake of the 200 day moving average? Let's dig into the data. 🤓

#CRWD analysis for April 19
The information security sector always seems to have high demand, but how does $CRWD compare to its peers? Let's dig into the data and plot a course. 🗺️
