🥁 New thing, bongos! Puppy is scared of them (she dislikes the guitars and my singing too, evidently a musical heathen)
🥁 Week 3 of #C25K completed, though think I’m going to repeat the week because despite Jo Whiley’s assertion, I haven’t *quite* ‘got this’. All moving is moving forward
🥁Some good plans with gig mates coming together (I get quite excited by an efficient car share) -
Second week of Couch to 5K completed! Like many a venture there’s mixed feelings, blessedly the positive resonate with more impact.
I’m now moving my body in a way that respects, honours and challenges it, though it is with some small grief that I naturally mourn my past (better) health and reflect on the changes between ‘then’ me and ‘now’ me. Guilt, regret and anger be gone - we work with and cherish all that we have IN THIS MOMENT ❣️

1 run down, 2 more to go! I have been running using the app "Just Run", by @jupli and I am almost ready to move on from running 5K (or 30 minutes continuously, in my case), to the 10K / 1 hour program. This app is free, has no trackers and no ads, and it is really brilliant!
It is meant to take you from no running, to 30 minutes runs in 9 weeks. I also use it to get back into running gradually after a long break. I absolutely recommend it! 🏃♀️➡️ #running #c25k -
Todo o mundo pode #correr. Uns máis rápido e outros máis amodo, uns máis lonxe outros quedamos máis preto. A evolución dunha situación a outra debe ser progresiva para que o corpo a asimile de xeito saudable. Sen dúbida, o chanzo máis grande a superar é do sofá a trotar.
https://xmgz.eu/2020/c25k.html

I finished #Couchto5k with a #parkrun at Albert in Middlesbrough today!
Before starting this, I'd charitably describe my fitness as "could be worse". I was a mostly sedentary fifty year old who scraped a pass thanks to some weekend distance walking. But I'd never been able to run before. Every time I'd tried, I hated it.
I read the testimonies for #C25k and was sceptical, but decided to give it a go. And it's been brilliant!
From 60 seconds to 30 minutes, and it somehow never felt too much!

#parkrun
Our very own parkrun. I came 2nd out of a field of two but first in my age group. Many thanks to the run director (me) and to all the participants (GF).
Timing chips ? The only chips I saw were being stolen by seagulls.
First random track: GF telling me how much she likes Steve Cram's voice on #C25K (that track is on repeat !).
GF is on week 4 of #C25K & has a London Marathon place for 2026 - wish us both luck.
Enjoy your running.
Picture is Eastbourne Riviera in the distance. -
This morning I got myself to get outside in the early morning hours before the full heat of the desert set in. I decided to restart a Couch to 5K podcast that I took a stab at 7 years ago and see how it would go this time. The last few years, I've mostly stopped listening to audio when outside, the better to hear nature, so I tried using just one earbud to both get the cues and the bird sounds, and it worked well. Two miles up and down the arroyo made for a good session.

4½ years ago, my friend Anna got me into #running because she was so happy about completing #C25k. Today I returned the motivational favour by accompanying her on her first #Parkrun, in sunny #Peacehaven. Congratulations Anna 🙌🥳

Running advice?
I just completed the c25k program!
I'd like to keep on running but I'd like some external motivation/program for motivation. 30mins/~5k per session is enough for me. Any ideas?

First run of the year and first after graduating from the Couch to 5K programme! 4K in 30' which is still not "easy" at all, but I did it and I'm proud 💪
✴️ My HR monitor didn't record anything except time and distance but honestly it didn't matter
🛼 Let's see how I feel tomorrow at roller derby, right now I'm quite tired
🥶 My hands don't like the cold (I have Raynaud's) and I haven't found the right gloves for running yet

My fitness style is apparently "Restarts #C25K W1D1 frequently." I wish I didn't have to schedule workouts at 5:30am. A bad night's sleep can (and does) easily ruin my consistency. It's so annoying.

Eternally in week one of #C25k.

Due to steroids and high heart rate, my last run was end of May, so being sensible and building up again with a Couch 2 10K app. First one no bother, so should be back to 4 or 5K by the winter.

In 2012 I was 43, and my #weight was just shy of 130kg. I felt like crap, and couldn't keep up with my kid playing kiddy football. I decided to do something about it, started #C25K and a #diet , and by June 2014, I was down to 92kg and was #running 5km three times a week and was well on my way to doing 10km.
Then life threw a curveball and I couldn't #run any more.
And in 2019 I was back to 125kg and was diagnosed with #diabetesT2.
And I started #C25K again, and was back to running 5km a couple of times a week, and was down to about 100kg.
And life threw another curveball, and I couldn't run again. I didn't know it then but my #coeliac gene had activated due to the trauma that stopped me running, and I felt bloody awful. And yup, I ballooned back to ~120kg again. Several utterly useless doctors later "Lose weight and exercise more" "I can barely get off the couch, I am exhausted just walking from the waiting room to your office" "Here's an exercise program" a good #doctor found severe #anaemia as well as #bloating and #JointInflammation and asked why? and I was diagnosed as a #coeliac in November 2023.
I stopped eating #gluten and I slowly lost the feeling of being the walking dead and I started feeling alive again. Very slowly the weight dropped. And I rediscovered the joy of #moving my #body.
Today, I am #55yo , 97kg, and just did this on the #exercise bike, which is 5 minutes longer than when I started a few weeks ago. I'm #purposefully #exercising again.
Will I #run again? Probably not - the #knees and #hips are not what they once were - but I've found that #dancing to #livemusic is great #aerobic #exercise and am happy to hop on the #StationaryBike to make sure I can cope with 2 hours of thrashing it out to #IronMaiden next month. A girl has to have #goals. It's no longer about my #weight or how I #look, it's because #life is short, and I want to #live it.

September #MonthlyRecap
- #GameDev this month was working on some animations for my base sprite. Art isn't my forte, so I may start working with a pixel artist I know.
- I've started #running via the couch to 5k (#c25k) program.
- I went to #SantaMonica and #LosAngeles for the first time. This was a work trip, so I got to meet all my coworkers (all lovely people). We also went to #UniversalStudios. #MarioWorld was cool.
- My s/o and I saw #Wicked!
-
I did it, I finally ran 5k for the first time this year! Overall time was 31 minutes, which I am very happy with.
I also worked out a route that isn’t terrible for hills and crossing the street, so that works.

Decided to go out for a 25 minute run today and it was pretty good! I ran just about 4 km, which I felt good about. Fortunately, our temperatures have been in the 70’s, so the humidity wasn’t that terrible. Might go for 26 or 27 minutes for my next run as I get closer and closer to 5k. #running #applewatch #fitness #exercise #whitinshoes #justkeepmoving #c25k

Week 6 day 3 of #c25k is in the books - I ran for a total of 18 minutes and came really close to 3 km distance. This means my pace is pretty much 6:00/km, which I will take! On to week 7 on Wednesday.
-
Finished week 6 day 1 yesterday, with a pretty good pace despite the hills of Dover. I ran for a total of 16 minutes, with 2.58 km distance. Average running pace was about 6:12/km. #applewatch #fitness #exercise #whitinshoes #c25k
