I made myself a toasted cheese sandwich last night.
It had no butter, no cheese, and no bread.
It didn’t toast too good either.sigh <- this is me missing the old[1] days…

From a holiday company: "a huge increase in requests for special dietary requirements" ... "likely due to the progressive popularity of various lifestyle choices" ... "therefore we have introduced a small charge where catering for particular special #dietary requests is required" ... "vegetarian alternatives will continue to be provided free of charge"
So having #coeliac disease is a "lifestyle choice" but being #vegetarian" is not?!

Can confirm, it's twice the price for half as much.
In #Scotland, people diagnosed with #Coeliac can get staples (bread, pasta, flour, Xanthan and so on) on prescription from the #NHS.
Which is great. But you don't always get what you ask for, and often the stuff you actually like is unavailable.
I am fortunate* that I can afford to pay these prices for the most basic of foods.

When you ask for gluten free diet at a 2-day-conference and get back an email indicating that it will be buffet and you will for sure find something you like.
"Like"? 🫣😖 Honestly?
It's not a lifestyle, it's an autoimmune disease. Will bring my own food – again (and again, and again...).

Yesterday morning I used the door handle to get in/out of the Post Office. It was the ONLY thing outside of my house that I touched.
Felt ill in the afternoon, pain throughout the night, lots of dry-heaving this morning.
It's felt like - and still does - the flu.Someone with gluten on their hands used the handle, then I did, and then somehow it got inside me even though it was invisible.
I really do feel like crap

Coeliac Vegans!
Attending a summer picnic and sitting there jealously looking at your friend's partner chomping on a scotch egg, your vegetarian friend enjoying a meatless scotch egg and your vegan friend eating scotch breadcrumbs??
Worry no more!
Simply remove the meat coat, the egg and the breadcrumbs and hey presto, your very own delicious scotch air! You'll be hungry but you're beachbodready!

This lovely story that hit our inbox instead of Sara Cox’s (we hope it made it to her too) is a great example of #kindness in friendship and some M&S employees going above and beyond.
“My friend just found out she’s #coeliac and was sad about having to give up her favourite snacks. Luckily another coeliac friend recommended some chocolatey favourites so I could pass that on and also told me about the new GF Colin the Caterpillar that M&S had just released."

I don't use this mug often, but I took it out of the cupboard after watching our garden robin scrabbling about in the snow today, trying to find the food that I know we've put out for him.
Also, I am very happy to have realised, after years of abstinence, that my favourite Lindt chocolates are gluten-free. I can ignore the mention of barley on the packet now that the company has issued a statement on their website. 🥳#coeliac #glutenfree #glutenfreechocolate #scottishceramics #scottishpottery

Okay so we have the results. Let's have some fun. Is it: ach who cares, a new oven means not having to worry about a stray crumb of gluten poisoning our #coeliac daughter on Christmas Day, or: thank god we don't have to find £500 for a new cooker even though that one's a bit naff and I wouldn't have minded an upgrade. Cast your votes!

I'm celiac, and I ate wheat today. Knowingly. That was for croissants without gluten apparently, from specially processed wheat. I still don't feel that this was a great idea, but I wanted to try that.

This is so deserved. It's a great little chippy, very friendly, with an arrangement with the riverside pub over the way so you can eat the F&C in the pub garden. The place is 100% scrupulously #glutenfree Our #coeliac daughter's eaten there without incident. #Herefordshire #Shropshire #Ludlow

What a mess. #Heidi #Ski accepted our money for a holiday (a sizeable group, so a not insignificant amount of money), then announced that the hotel couldn't provide #GlutenFree meals, which is a deal breaker since I have #Coeliac disease.
They then say that our flights are non-refundable, so essentially we can't cancel and go elsewhere.
The option offered is to switch to B&B board, which is inconvenient but ok, doable... except the refund they are offering is *tiny* (about £13 / night).

Well that's another tour operator (#Heidi #Ski) on my "never deal with them again" list (which already had #Crystal on it). Booked a holiday, at the time of booking I put "#GlutenFree meals required" in the special requests. They now inform me that the hotel can't provide gluten free meals, but that the flights are non-refundable so cancelling isn't really an option. They point to their T&Cs that basically say bookings are not conditional on them being able to meet dietary requirements. #Coeliac

Gluten sensitivity: It’s not actually about gluten
https://www.unimelb.edu.au/newsroom/news/2025/october/gluten-sensitivity-its-not-actually-about-glutenLead researcher, University of Melbourne Associate Professor Jessica Biesiekierski, says there's a popular belief that most people with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity are reacting to gluten when it's far more likely they have a sensitivity to FODMAPs (fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols). She also highlights the importance of the gut-brain axis.
Associate Professor Jason Tye-Din, Director of the Snow Centre for Immune Health and a gastroenterologist at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, said: "This review supports a more personalised, evidence-based approach to gut health and avoids unnecessary dietary restriction."
IMHO, it would be a more helpful and accurate representation of the article if whoever wrote the headline stated that gut sensitivity is not always about gluten. Putting aside my concern about clickbaitism, the article itself is excellent, and very much in line with my own reading/research and personal experience with food intolerance that leads to gastrointestinal problems.

It's National Celiac Awareness day in the US, and as someone I'm close to has the disease I'm gonna talk about it.
Coeliac disease (as we spell it in the UK) is not an allergy or intolerance, it's an autoimmune disorder that can lead to cancer. Gluten is a serious risk to long term health. It might not make them immediately vomit or nauseous but it's still doing harm.

I accidentally glutened myself on Thursday evening. This means I am now in Day 3 of pain and I expect it to continue for at least 3 more days.
The pain comes with additional symptoms. All you need to know is that I know what I weigh when I am empty.

Missed diagnosis of coeliac/celiac disease. This looks like it was (or could be) the cause of symptoms that had previously led to a diagnosis of ME/CFS

Always worthwhile and I do like the change from being in the city, it's much better at the Claremont Showgrounds.
